The fee makes sense considering what MUFC paid for Young.

Downing had a much much better season than Young, and had 2 year left on his contracts.

Considering Young went for 16M, it's no surprise Downing was 19M.

Ask any Villa fan...Downing was much more consistent than Young. and he didn't score any penalties.

as for the spending.....cost of winning is a lot. Our manager has won as many league titles as a manager as Chelsea FC have won in their entire f*cking history Shocked

in seasons 05-06, and 08-09 we had out and out left wingers starting regularly for us....in both seasons we scored 80+ points :coffee:

Downing has created more chances than any one in PL since August 2004 bar Fabregas, Lampard and Gerrard.

well he's won more league titles as a manager than any other manager in PL bar Fergie.

point being, he's been in title winning teams as both a player and manager...and certainly knows what it takes to win the league. a team of passionate players, and not bunch of Football Manager legends.

He will be a good signing for Liverpool. Admittedly he is overpriced, but a large number of British players playing in the Premier League at the moment are.

Andy Carroll needs a good winger to provide him service if he is going to score goals: Downing is very good at providing assists for the strikers.

Man United still have a lot of foreigners in there team. I would describe it as more of a mix instead of anything else.

Liverpool did have a large Spanish influence within their side when Benitez was in charge, but that has been gradually phased out and Dalglish-who is better with British sides-wants most of the player to be from here. I can understand why, as most will already be used to the physical and demanding nature of the Premier League.
