Can't see the motherland beating Algeria. Capello is solely focusing on WC '18 at home. Wants to have a team that can compete. He's gonna go again with the youngsters instead of the more experienced.
Also Russia's chances of any sort of success in this WC ended when Shirokov got injured.

Re: World Cup: Group H discussion
Igor Akinfeev has single-handedly cost Russia their chances in the World Cup.
Not only Russia were dominating and looked to score versus North Korea yet out of a routine save, Akinfail makes a howler that will be the remembrance of all of Mother Russia; costing them three points when Kerzhakov had to level it to 1-1.
Belgium (More like Hazard) deserved their win despite Russia being without a doubt the better team so that also was quite unlucky.
Tonight on the other hand was relatively even yet Russia's decisions in the final third cost them chances that should not have been spoiled in such poor fashion. In comes Igor the Terrible to make suicidal jump in spite of his poor height in leaving his line unconvincingly and having Algeria equalize via Slimani. Unforgivable especially considering how Malfeev was benched for this overrated sludge of mistakes.
Yes, the target for Capello always was for 2018 in reducing the cavernous gap between the old and young and it was a miracle that they even reached Brazil with this squad, yet hard not to feel for them despite not under performing by any means.
Where Capello was baffling was in his decision to continually provide less than needed minutes to Russia's best player in Alex Kerzhakov and the continual play of the awful Samedov over an unpredictable Dzagoev. Shirokov (literally their only creative player and arguably best) injury was a massive blow to their WC ambitions as it is, the rest of their squad severely lacking.
Euro 2016 in France will be different story if Capello can continue to produce the miracles he's done with a team down in the depths of depression.

Re: World Cup: Group H discussion
lol at people who rated algeria as " one of the worst teams " in the world cup in that old thread.
it goes to show that people love to talk out their ass without knowing a single thing about a team and without being able to look past the " unfashionable" name of the country.
it was pretty obvious to anyone who watches european football outside of the PL and barça / real that algeria had better players than both russia and korea ... not only that, but they actually have better athletes , which can't be underestimated in the brazilian weather.
ligue 1 followers would also tell you that their coach is more than capable .
it was laughable that algeria were underdogs to russia and korea for the second spot ... casual fans are always influencing the betting lines in major tournaments.

Re: World Cup: Group H discussion
that green laser had nothing to do with the russian goalie being a midget with terrible decision making or with the defenders non existing marking.
not sure why is twitter buzzing about this " incident ". laser pointing has become a staple in football for quite some time now ( just look at the classicos for example )
just another anti-african narrative imo.

Re: World Cup: Group H discussion
he was being pointed to with the laser as he was judging the flight of the cross, we can see that it made contact with his eyes, is it really so ludicrous to suggest it could have affected him? Nothing "anti-african" about it, in fact the fact that Algeria is in Africa was not brought up at all.

Re: World Cup: Group H discussion
i was joking with the african thing .
should've added "
" i guess..
what did him in was his lack of height and the defenders poor marking .
no need to bail out that scrub who already cost russia in the korea game by blaming his mistake on something as trivial as a laser pointer.

Capello has 1 win in 7 World cup finals games
what do people expect? The thing is this group wasnt even a tough group and Russia in the very least shouldve secured that second place. Capello flopped and found out. Russia going out with the worst scoring record in their entire history in any tournament including USSR.

Re: World Cup: Group H discussion
Capello is clueless. Maybe he is a good coach (trainer), but he's not a good manager. A good thing, too, coz I had Belgium and Algeria going through

The likes of Taider, Feghouli, Bentaleb, Belfodil, Ghoulam, Mesbah, etc can match up with Russia's squad easily imo

Clueless? We're speaking of one of the best managers of all time here. Does everyone who support Englanf judge him by his tenure there alone? You know, managing a over-the-hill golden generation bunch of entitled egos that were too indisciplined to handle his methods?
Before Capello, Russia were an absolute mess as he complied a squad previous in depression and decline into a squad punching above their weight and miraculously reaching the WC despite the expectations. He was hired to see the youngsters through into the 2018 WC and so far is closing the cavernous gap between the old and too young and many bar the ones obviously new to his Russia obviously do not recognise that.
If Akinfeev single-handedly didn't cost Capello the WC group we wouldn't be speaking of this. He's done a fantastic job with Russia so far.

You're speaking as if you've followed this Russia which doesn't seem to be the case. Ignoring their severe squad limitations and the injury of their only creative player forced Capello to change his system to the rear, Russia being eliminated due to their overrated goalkeeper, pathetic finishing and some god-awful officiating to which everyone seems to ignore while dozing off through this group.
