Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Mattia De Sciglio, Gigi Buffon and Salvatore Sirigu all ruled out versus England.
That leaves Mattia Perin to have his Italia debut versus England tonight.
The latter two goalkeepers are world class and vital yet I have 100% confidence in Perin as it's not often you'll me hear me say that when Gigi is out. Would have been beneficial if Perin had experience pre-World Cup yet this will not be another Marchetti disaster.

IT WAS THE PITCH FFS!!!
It will be the other way round lol. The pitch will level the playing field between the two teams and give England a better chance of a decent result. If Italy don't win we will here a lot of whining about the pitch from them!

Ouch (both Gigi and Sirigu out). But I'm looking forward to seeing Mattia Perin in his first big match!Arquitescu wrote:Mattia De Sciglio, Gigi Buffon and Salvatore Sirigu all ruled out versus England.

I had asked this before. So will they go with a single striker or will they field Cavani-Forlan!!!

Luis Suárez left out of Uruguay team but set to return against England
• Óscar Tabárez picks Diego Forlán and Edinson Cavani
• Suárez could feature as substitute against Costa Rica

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
So it seems Sirigu IS fit considering his injury wasn't as serious as one thought after his morning scan.
Perin or Sirigu either way I am content though preferably Sirigu considering he is a rock for Italia in his appearances.
Real worry is how Marchisio will fare in the likely in the right side from the front 3 attacking flank as Candreva on the opposite signals that Cesare is going for an all-rounded Mez'zalla on both flanks; who can provide coverage for Cheillini and Darmian. Understandable given both are glaringly natural CBs.
Even more than that I am not happy with Cheillini at LB since he resembles a birch tree in high wind while Paletta I fear will be out of his depth; Bonnuci or Rano a superior option for me.
I see a serious surprise with England scoring early and controlling from there.

Might be a blessing in disguise. Imo Sirigu has been better than Buffon two seasons in a row. Who will be captain tonight? Pirlo?

I feel that England will edge out Italy here. Sturridge will be a massive threat to Barza and Paletta. While Sterling can take advantage of Chiellini at LB.
I predict England to win 2-1

Sterling wont even start.
Its Welback Struddige Lallana front 3 with Rooney in the no.10 role
Probably 0-0 or Italy will win by one goal

Good news Sterling on bench.
Sirigu will play, I am sure with him , he has good international experience, he is the GK of PSG, it has nothing to do with Marchetti , fail in 2010

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
England, a side who have found resolution tactically and a sense of identity will be facing an Italia with no clear ideas in their best semantic/formation/combination as entering the World Cup in such fashion is ALWAYS a recipe for disaster. Prandelli is known for this yet this time I do not buy that he simply chose not to show his hand or clear out the experimentations to surmount into one semantic with conviction.
This gripe and adaptive approach will be the demise against an England with a firm approach to their game.
They cannot be underestimated tonight. Expect a surprise. Predicted correct for España yesterday as well.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Smart decision to start Sterling who will exploit the pace that Cheillini is susceptiblely weak to as a left back.
Criscito omission now even a more glaring blunder.
And Dosto; fantastic post. Agreed with your premise.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Yeh good decision. Need the pace for counter-attacking. Better choice than Welbeck imo.
