I think Cahill will wear no.5 next season, since he wore that when he was at Bolton and his current number for the national team.

Hazard will wear no.10, don't think Oscar is in contention since he likes his current number.

Is he downplaying our chances next season? I know that the other clubs are making their squads stronger, but is this being too pessimistic?

We'll know that during the season, though I doubt it. Above is the kind of generic stuff every manager says before the start of the campaign. "League's looking strong; will be harder than ever; we'll play our game and see where we can go" yada yada yada.


I'll be more concerned if once the season does begin he starts coming out every week with the same "we have no chance" line he did all throughout the last one, which was annoying and highly uncharacteristic of him. But again, I doubt it.

Yeah Shed's right about it being generic. But I'd be unhappy if he starts bringing up excuses again. This should be our season.

I saw quotes saying Mourinho wants to win the title this season.

It'd be nice if they rested 8 for a season, doubt they will though, they gave Oscar the 11 straight after Drogba left

3 will go to Luis, 5 to Thiago, 6 is technically still Romeu's.

I don't know who will take 8 though, maybe MVG?

Thought I'd take a look at how the team is shaping up:

GK:
Cech, Courtois, Schwarzer, Blackman

DEF:
Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry Ake, Zouma

CM:
Matic, Ramires, Mikel, Van Ginkel

AM:
Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle, Salah, Fabregas

CF:
Costa, Torres, Ba, Lukaku

The first thing that jumps out is that there is only 4 homegrown players there, considering that we may only have 17 non-homegrown players over the age of 21 in our squad, we have to sell someone or remove them from our squad (such as Hilario last season).

If our targets are Thaigo and Luis, two non homegrown players, then at least two players have to leave. Possibly Ba and either a CM or Cech? Loan of MVG?

It also means that Lukaku is vital, due to his homegrown status and Blackman will most likely be third choice GK, despite Schwarzer signing on for another year. Perhaps it could also see Bertrand or PVA return to the squad to fill up our Defence? Since both are homegrown.

This also shoots down the rumours about Emenike unless we can get rid of both Torres and Ba.

Perhaps we will sign another homegrown player (Pogba fell a few weeks short of being homegrown, ). (EDIT: just realised, Pogba is homegrown as the reqiurement is three seasons, no years. So, Pogba, anyone? )
Time will tell.
