Re: Patrick Vieira vs Yaya Toure
Vieira was as balanced a midfielder as could possibly be. Could be the league's best AM one second and instantly fall back and become the league's best DM. There was no bias to his game, he could attack and defend perfectly, without compromise. Toure is a great attacker, but his defensive skills are woeful

Vieria was, I really would have liked to see him play for Madrid when they were after him.

Wat? Yaya slotted in as a freaking CB against SAF's treble winning United team in a CL final and kept a clean sheet.
He "can't defend" because no one can defend in Pellegrini's idiotic 4-2-2-2 gung-ho tactics with Lescott and Demichelis covering 2 central midfielders and 4 attackers.

Re: Patrick Vieira vs Yaya Toure
But we're not talking about Yaya as a CB (who, btw, only has to focus on one job and that's defending) We're talking about him as a supposed box-to-box mid, a role that requires a player to be proficient in two or more football disciplinesFußball wrote:Lex wrote:Vieira was as balanced a midfielder as could possibly be. And hes pretty easy to dribble past. And hes not like ramsey who wins the ball like a dog and inevitably gets dribbled now and then, hes just feebly watches as players run past him. Vieira though, those long wirey legs picked the ball off players like picking candy from a child

Re: Patrick Vieira vs Yaya Toure
Viera was more balanced and better tactically because of his discipline. Anyone that saw him play for France could see his passing variety. Yaya Toure bombed forward for Barcelona and left them exposed, Guardiola hated his lack of positional discipline and he exposed Barcelona to a lot of counter attacks.
@futbol Yaya is lazy. He CAN defend but he is to lackadaisical about it and just walks back. Viera also played in a double Pivote but was much smarter with his movement. Hard to compare but I would rather have Viera in my team.

Re: Patrick Vieira vs Yaya Toure
Yaya is a lazy player.
He doesn't track his runners, he's easy to dribble past, has very low work rate.
Majority of goals City concede is because of either someone running beyond Yaya, Yaya not being in position to track who he should be marking or the pass it self.
I have lost count of the times someone has run beyond him and go on to score with Yaya just walking around, that alone makes the comparison a moot point.
He's an offensive juggernaut but tactically and defensively the gap is as wide as Steve Bruce's waistline.

Re: Patrick Vieira vs Yaya Toure
Yaya way too much of a liability to be considered a WC B2B mid, and I'd take Vieira over him definitely.
Yaya is excellent in some aspects though.

Re: Patrick Vieira vs Yaya Toure
I am going to take a stand for Yaya here. he is clearly an attacking player, he does thing offensively that vieira couldnt even dream of, absolute juggernaut. His ability to track back and to defend is not as great but so what? you guys blame him for city being weak in transition, but whose fault is it? his or dummy managers that do not understand that he needs to be played further up or with a proper DM, and not fernandinho.
Truth is both players are compltetely different in essence. This thread is just another excuse for peops to lay on him. but hey, they are both tall, black and play in midfield right? Go compare Viera with Busquets, at least that would hold more truth.

That's because as far as DM goes, Busquets >>> Yaya.
And Nick, are you implying that Guardiola is racist? I mean, his favorite player was Keita. He even said so himself...
