Benzema 182, Iker 181 IMO. Celebrities height are very deceiving. They never claim the truth and are always pumped on internet. Modric is 174 on wiki ffs, while he's 170 max

The internet tells us that Batista is 6"6, but every wrestling fan knows thats not true. Celebrity heights on the internet are more often than not utter nonsense.

Dante is making himself a bit bigger in this picture as well, see his left foot not on the ground. And he's rocking the afro. No chance he's smaller than Valdes.

Claiming crosses shouldn't be a problem:

Marc-André ter Stegen: The Young German - Page 2 2014%2f2%2fValdes-vs-Ter-Stegen

See crosses claimed.

The key in that comparison and which shows that Valdes is the better GK is the save %. An astonishing 80% when Valdes is one of the GK that has to save the most 1 on 1 situations (in percentage) it's simply incredible.

That picture is a bit old. He's not on 80 % anymore.

He also doesn't have to deal with many 1-on-1s under Tata since our defense is sitting deeper. Under Pep and Tito, when he actually had to deal with many 1-on-1s, Valdes' save percentage was in the low 60s.

  1. How good he is at commanding his box (e.g. on corners)

  2. How good he is with his feet

For me these are the two most important factors.

Playing with your feet and commanding the box are important abilities for a GK, but far from the most important. The most important, is to save everything. And Valdes is head and shoulders above Ter Stegen.

Well, commanding the box is one of the major weaknesses of every Spanish goalkeeper as La Liga is a league of small technical players. There is not much emphasis on targeting a goalkeeper on corner kicks. You could see the huge difference after De Gea left for the Premier League. Suddenly he was targeted and surrounded on corner kicks and had to improve that particular aspect a lot, gain some weight etc. Something he never had to do at Atletico. Bundesliga is much like the Premier League in that aspect. Germany simply doesn't raise goalkeepers that don't command their box, it's a major requirement to survive in that league, let alone be named one of the biggest talents. Meanwhile Valdes is even below the average La Liga keeper when it comes to commanding his box. I've lost count on the amount of times in his career he comes out charging like a lunatic but completely misjudges the tracjectory of the ball and flies under it or comes out and then hesitates, even with 32 where he should be in his prime.

Marc-André ter Stegen: The Young German - Page 2 Valdes%20misjudging%20flight%20of%20ball

Marc-André ter Stegen: The Young German - Page 2 Valdes%20brainfart

It's one of Valdes' major weaknesses.

As for passing. Well - Valdes is definitely okay with his feet but also quite overrated considering the team he plays for. His medium diagonal long balls in particular mostly result in throw-ins. His ground passes are much better but even there Pinto is putting more emphasis on passing it out of the back these days since Di Maria ended Valdes' passing career. Ter Stegen passes it a lot more and a lot more accuratly, short or long, and once he plays in Barcelona where he will have a system that will make it even easier for him to pass it out of the back (highly technical centerbacks splitting up, Busquets and Xavi dropping deep to receive the ball), he will thrive even more. His passing is definitely one of his major strengths.

I have no doubt ter Stegen is going to be a much better GK than Valdes. Valdes was a desaster well into his mid-twenties, with some occasional great games but also many high profile errors which he never stopped doing. Wasn't even considered for the national team until 2010 after Pep arrived and turned Barca into a confident juggernaut. Ter Stegen with 21 is already a different beast potential-wise. Ultimately it will depend how he will adapt to a huge club like Barca and whether he will show nerves or not but he's got everything.

Just to expand on what futbol said, things like reading the ball trajectory and split-second decision making are instinctive traits in my opinion. Some goalkeepers are born with it and some simply are not.

Of course like everything, you can learn and improve these aspect with experience but you won't be a natural box commander. Like De Gea.

Ter Stegen's Long Balls are very Accurate; even With Both Feet... He's Very Confident with The Ball at his Feet; a Leader and His Reflexes are Awesome..... He also Saves Well with His Feet; regarding Long Balls, The Trajectory is High at all; more like a Straight Line. He's an Upgrade to What We Have Right Now.. And Yes! I've watched Him more than 20 Times

Idk too much about Stegen, but after his two blunders I certainly will hold my breath every time we pass the ball back to him.

German GKs have always been pretty good, so I'm a bit surprised that not more teams have realised that so far.

Naw, not sexy, just a fantastic GK. For sexy I'd go with Yann Sommer

I'm reading that Masip will be promoted for sure; and might serve as the back up to Ter Stegen

I hope Enrique wil see the ability of Masip and make him second choice, instead of wasting money on a backup.

I got a feeling that he will give confidence to the 2nd teamers like Pep would; given the connection they shared with them as 2nd team managers

Backing up a 22 year old with someone who hasn't played first division football in his entire life would make me feel a bit uncomfortable. Having said that, you don't usually have world class goalkeepers sitting on the bench anyway.

I dont know which goalie we going to sign who is happy to just sit there and watch. Guys like Navas would be ill advised for such a move.

As for the first division thing, if there is a position I worry about the least its goalie. If the shot goes in the top corner, its going there, regardless of what league you play in.
