Leeds United fans welcome new owner Massimo Cellino by dressing as Italian mafia

When Massimo Cellino signalled his interest in buying Leeds United last month, it’s fair to say that many supporters were not happy.

Amid allegations of corruption and links to the mafia, the Italian, who also owns Serie A side Cagliari, faced boos when he tipped up at Elland Road for the first time.

However, as his deal to buy the Championship edges closer to completion, some of the Leeds faithful are ready to give Cellino a chance – and they made light of the rumours about him by dressing up members of the Italian mafia during a match with QPR.

Complete with yellow suits, bulky white ties and black and white bowler hats, the 50 or so supporters who took part more than matched the stereotype of an Italian mobster.

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has called a Press conference for 16.00 CET, with speculation mounting that he may announce retirement.

Speculation has mounted in recent months that the veteran’s knees were given him too much pain, meaning that he may quit at the end of the season.

And the Blaugrana have confirmed that the centre-back will be presented to reporters later this afternoon.

There is, however, no official word from the club or the player yet, as to why the Press conference has been announced.

A Vietnam international defender has been given a record 28-game suspension by the country's football federation after breaking the leg of an opponent during a domestic league match.
Tran Dinh Dong, a 26-year-old player with Song Lam Nghe An, fouled midfielder Nguyen Anh Hung who is expected to be out for a year.
He was also fined 20m dong (£567) and ordered to pay Nguyen's medical bills.
His coach said the club would appeal against the suspension.
The ban means Tran will not be able to return to action this year.
Speaking to local media, Tran's coach Nguyen Huu Thang said: "I will fine him if he does wrong. I think the VFF (Vietnam Football Federation) issued the fine under pressure from public opinion, not based on reality.
"We will appeal because his absence would strongly affect our name and V-League results."
The VFF said in a statement: "The punishment is meant to be a warning to players throughout the nation, where violent behaviour on the field has gradually become more popular."
Nguyen plays for Hung Vuong An Giang.
