Bayern v Arsenal discussion
Might as well get this started. Arsenal have a much better chance now... Ribery got operated for a hematoma and is expected to miss several weeks. He won't be available for this game and probably not leg 2 either.

Really?!?!

It's too early to do a Bayern preview. We have bigger fish to fry right now. *cough*Anfield*cough*Yanited*cough*FACup*cough*
For all you know, we'd be playing Viviano as GK, Fabianski and Sagna as CB, Flamini as LB, Cazorla as DM and Eisfeld as CF by then

Re: Bayern v Arsenal discussion
It was a hematoma on his lower back that happened in practice a few days ago. They had to operate because it touched a nerve ending... when a nerve gets touched and you need surgery, it's usually 3-4 weeks.
What it means is that he took a hit in practice that caused internal bleeding. The bleeding gathered up in a pocket that expanded. That pocket eventually hit a nerve ending. They performed surgery to stop the bleeding and remove the pocket of blood.

I don't like this, I don't like this at all.
I read that they hope he might be back for the tie though..

In France, they don't think he'll be ready for the NT game on March 5 (friendly)... any surgery is a minimum of 2 weeks. But you have nerve issues here too.

@Hans - Why are you so worried? Last I checked, you guys have a really good squad. Granted, Ribery is a big miss, but it's not like we have Ramsey and Theo fit either - and these two are key cogs in our starting 11!

Re: Bayern v Arsenal discussion
I'm worried because it's a tough tie anyway, and Ribery is the player we can replace the least.
But I'm not shitting my pants, if that's what you mean, however I would have described our chances at 60:40, now without Ribery they're only 55:45.

I think you are giving us too much credit. I would still put it at 65:35 in favour of Bayern despite no Ribery.

you're just trying to lower expectations, so that you guys will be able to parade around your victory like the greatest single football achievement ever mastered.

Not really, we dont even care about this tie tbh. We want to concentrate on EPL.

Oh ok, my bad then, I was simply basing this assumption on how you paraded around your 2nd leg win last year, when you didn't even go through

Re: Bayern v Arsenal discussion
Bayern losing Ribery just means that they get to throw some other GOAT who's been sitting on the bench. Downgrade, maybe, but someone like Shaqiri or whoever can still do a ton of damage.
I won't even think about this match or what to expect until after Liverpool & Man Utd. We'll see how Arsenal will be shaping up by then.

We paraded every win, we didn't know what winning was, no mater who the opposition was. Bayern was just another victim.

it is a downgrade, no doubt. Guess who was missing when you won against us?
It's the hardest tie we could get, and this is not goo news for us.

Re: Bayern v Arsenal discussion
The thing people always underestimate by a lot is that Ribery: tracks back and defends hard, helps flow in the midfield, uses Alaba like a master and scores/assists. So when you're taking about replacing him... you're more than likely only replacing one of those aspects to relative satisfaction. On the rest, you lose out big. Unfortunately, the current footy generation don't focus on being complete football players... they are specialists in one aspect more often than not. The glamor aspect is the attack... so most wingers are only effective in the final 1/3. The other 2/3 of the pitch are foreign territory to them.
Doesn't mean that Bayern won't win because they have superb talent. But it forces Pep to compensate by quite a bit tactically... which is good news for Arsenal.

that's true, without Ribery, Alaba going forward is sometimes a bit like a kid that lost his daddy in a mall, they have developed a great understanding which Alaba doesn't have with Shaquiri or Götze yet

Ribery is hugely important for them, I'd prefer him not to be playing obviously but it's not an insurmountable blow to their chances.
Reckon they still have a shot.

Pep Guardiola when asked about Arsenal's loss vs Liverpool : " That does not mean anything for me, everyone can have a bad day, Arsenal are a very dangerous team and that loss would make them stronger, We have to do our best the night of the match."
