Michael Laudrup gets the boot
Swansea City and manager Michael Laudrup have tonight parted company.
Garry Monk will take up the reigns as head coach alongside current first team coach Alan Curtis for the foreseeable future.
“It is a decision we have taken reluctantly,’’ confirmed Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins. “But it’s a decision made in the best interests of Swansea City Football Club and our supporters.
“It is the first time in nearly 10 years that the club has parted with a manager in this way, but we had to remove the constant uncertainty surrounding the club and Michael’s long-term future with us.
“I had a meeting with Michael today in a final attempt to support him and establish a way to improve the work of the backroom team to secure the results we need over the final 14 Premier League games.
“However, after thinking long and hard about the best way forward, I felt it was unlikely we would achieve a stable environment at the club to allow us to get back to basics and produce the performance levels that have served Swansea City so well over the last few years.
“Now we need to put that uncertainty behind us and move forward as a united football club on all fronts, while placing on record our gratitude to Michael for the work he has done over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.’’
The Swansea chairman concluded: “I hope all our supporters can fully understand how difficult this period has been for us and I would urge everyone connected to the football club to get behind Garry Monk, the staff and players.’’
The club will be making no further comment at this stage, but will endeavour to keep our supporters updated with any future development.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
I had a dream I can buy my way to heaven
When I awoke, I spent that on a necklace.
I told God I'd be back in a second,
Man it's so hard not to act reckless.
Swansea fans not happy. But understandable decision. Garry Monk the player manager for now.

No surprise there, he had a lot of bad results.

Gutted for Laudrup.
Hope he sticks around in EPL because of his philosophy.

More that he had to deal with a ridiculous amount of injuries and squad was too small to deal with 3 competitions at once.
Stupid decision tbh.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
Totally wrong decision.
They finished 9th last season and won the League Cup, ffs, and have had quite a few injuries this season, including their top scorer from last season, Michu. Currently 12th in the table.
When Swansea play Cardiff on the weekend the only thing they'll have in common won't be that they're both Welsh, both have also idiotically sacked their managers this season.

Very overrated manager. Got all the credit for Martinez/Rodgers work.

Michu will probably jump ship now too. He was loyal to him.

Their results since they won the CoC have been shocking. This was long overdue imo.

I thought the same when I saw this thread
Apparently he was fit for the last game, but Laudrup didnt want to rush him back.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
Just last year Dailymail compared him to cryuff and Telegraph linked him to Chelsea, Real Madrid, Liverpool. Honorable mentions such as Spurs and City.
Some of the madrid fans wanted him to be successor to Mou, haha no thanks.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
8 wins from their last 34 matches since winning the Capital One Cup. They may be 12th now but there only two points above the drop zone.
Clubs these days were more than likely take the short-term route and do everything they can to not get relegated. Unfortunately for Laudrup, even if he's had to deal with multiple competitions and not having their best player fit throughout the whole season, you could argue that they've got a good enough squad still to not be involved in a relegation battle and unfortunately for him, his team showed little sign they were going to be turning it around.
The club statement mentions that they had to "remove the constant uncertainty surrounding the club and Michael's long-term future with us." Maybe Laudrup himself had his head turned?

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
I'm starting to think most managers are overrated & underrated nowadays, bar a few.
I for one think Laudrup may have worked out in a club like Man City or Barca, IMO.

He might well have. I've seen him talk before about managers in Spain in Italy being at clubs only for a small amount of time, he probably follows that mentality.

Re: Michael Laudrup gets the boot
A lot of these small clubs seem to have high expectations. Swansea are 12th, they're not in the relegation zone or anything. Laudrup shouldn't have been sacked.
