Liverpool are ready to move for AC Milan battler Nigel de Jong as Brendan Rodgers seeks to replace injured Brazilian Lucas Leiva according to Sports Direct News.

The experienced Dutch hard-man is apparently unsettled at AC Milan, who have struggled for form this season and are unlikely to secure a Champions League berth this term, and could be interested in a Premier League return.

Rodgers would look to bring in the 29 year old on a loan deal though one wonders if new boss Clarence Seedorf would listen to offers for the former Man City man.

De Jong has been a virtual ever present this season and offers the San Siro side some steel in the middle of the park and an exit in January wouldn’t seem to make much sense for the Italian giants, unless a replacement was in the bag.

Rodgers does not have any other out and out defensive midfielders to call upon and the absence of Leiva for a prolonged period of time could present the Merseyside club with something of a problem.

De Jong moved to AC Milan in a £3.5m move back in August 2012 after four seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

New AC Milan coach Clarence Seedorf will not be looking to offload midfielder Valter Birsa during the January transfer window.

The Slovenian was heavily linked with a return to Torino in recent weeks, and with the addition of Keisuke Honda, there were reports he was set for an exit from the Rossoneri.

Tuttomercatoweb.com are reporting that the player met with Seedorf in recent days, and the Dutchman has assured Birsa that he is counting on him for the rest of the season.

AC Milan are once again being linked with a move for Newcastle’s Italian international Davide Santon to fill the problematic left back area.

The Rossoneri are looking to strengthen the fullback area, and have shifted their interest to the Premier League, and in particular, Newcastle United.

According to RaiSport1, Milan will attempt to convince Newcastle to let the Italian leave in January. If the move for Santon does not materialize then Milan could move for Genoa left back Luca Antonelli.

Italian giants AC Milan have reportedly inquired into the availability of Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel - but it remains to be seen whether the Dane is willing to leave the Championship leaders.

Five points clear of second-placed Queens Park Rangers, Leicester are unwilling to sell any of their star players this month.

Schmeichel, a firm fans' favourite at the King Power Stadium, has impressed in the East Midlands and looks set to send Leicester on their way to the Premier League after a ten year absence.

The former Manchester City and Leeds United 'keeper is out of contract in the summer and has already attracted the attention of Crystal Palace but is reluctant to leave half way through a season which could end in glory.

Sky Sports report that the inquiry arrived this morning.

Hellas Verona winger Juan Manuel Iturbe has reportedly had AC Milan added to his list of suitors.

The Argentinian on loan from Porto has Juventus, Roma, Fiorentina and Inter all vying for his services.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri have joined their Italian rivals in an attempt to sign Iturbe next season.

Verona were able to acquire the 20 year-old on loan from the Portuguese club thanks to sporting director Sean Sogliano, and have a €15 million fee agreed with Porto in order to buy the player outright in the summer.

Milan have been attempting to hire Sogliano and could benefit from his presence in negotiations with Porto.

However, Iturbe is one of Porto’s finest young talents and will likely be sold to the highest bidder.

West Ham are reportedly chasing AC Milan midfielder Antonio Nocerino according to Sports Direct News.

The Upton Park side are desperate for an injection of quality in a number of areas of the park and have earmarked a hopeful move for the 28 year old Italian international.

The former Palermo and Juventus man moved to the San Siro in August 2011 and was a very effective performer in his first campaign at the club, impressing in an attacking midfield role that saw the Naples born star netting 10 goals in Serie A action alone.

This season Nocerino has proven less reliable and has managed just seven Serie A starts and is also being tracked by West Brom and Chinese side Guangzhou, who are managed by former Italian national team boss Marcello Lippi.

AC Milan are already readying a move to bring in Chelsea’s Michael Essien, which would leave the way clear for Nocerino’s exit.

Just sell Nocerino, no need to sign fckin Essien.

Lucas Leiva's two-month layoff led to a quick response, at least amongst the world's rumour mongers, who reacted to news of the defensive midfielder's injured knee by immediately linking Liverpool to AC Milan defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong. At 29 years of age and reportedly on massive wages, the ex-Manchester City player always seemed an unlikely target for Liverpool given their preference for young, undervalued players with relatively low pay packets.

Still, with Liverpool in desperate need of midfield reinforcements to keep the dream of a return to the Champions League this season alive, some had been willing to believe the rumour on the grounds that that the club's owners would make an exception to the transfer policy given the circumstances. However, if ESPN is to be believed, no exception is to be made and Liverpool never actually had any interest in acquiring the player.

De Jong always seemed an unlikely target and a potentially awkward fit for Liverpool, but with less than ten days to go before the transfer window slams shut he represented the sort of target Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool must bring in or risk becoming only the second team since Aston Villa to spend Christmas in first before missing out on the top four come season's end. In the circumstances, such a result would have to be considered an unmitigated failure.

No surprises here.

Essien pls fail your medical.

Some get a hold of his real birth certificate, that would give him a nice 2 year bad from football.

AC Milan close to signing Paletta

Despite facing competition from Fiorentina, AC Milan are close to securing the signing of defender Gabriel Paletta from Parma. Clarence Seedorf's side are on the verge of agreeing terms with the 27-year-old.

Paletta = more sound defender than probably any CB we have now, I don't know much about Rami based on the two times I've seen him play.

Paletta would actually be a decent signing for us. Better than Mexes & Zapata for sure. Paletta is the Parma CB we should've got instead of Zaccardo.

Paletta is good , anyway I don't understand why Parma is trying to sell all his good players , Sansone to  Sassuolo for Schelotto, Parolo probably sold, Cassano was very close to Sampdoria, now Paletta maybe goes away...

for all i care, for next season i want our squad to be decent... no more below par players in starting lineup 11. i think its now more than enough to get spoon fed with this mediocrity.

i and im sure all milan fans has never been spoilt enough to ask for world class signings in every department because we are well aware of the reality of our club, but if they dont hand decent squad then ultras should f.. k em up. no offense, for 5 years milan hasn't been into their standards that they were supposed to be at.

We always make the same mistake when our top players age, we fail to replace them. We make cheap purchases which always leads to these dark years. We must learn to count on our youth players so that we remain consistent over time.

Di Marzio wrote:Michael Essien comes close to Milan. Tomorrow, meanwhile, will be a crucial day. Today was reached in Milan the agreement between the agents and the Rossoneri midfielder. This evening, the prosecutors of the footballer flew to London to speak with Chelsea. The Blues will respond tomorrow morning, Milan has indeed changed strategy. The Rossoneri are willing to take outright the card of the player, receiving from Chelsea a contribution to the payment of the engagement this season. The English company should, therefore, give the card to freeing Essien but for the next a heavy engagement of a player rarely used. AC Milan tries, tomorrow the response of Chelsea. Essien sees Italy.
