Freeza wrote:Don't call me James wrote:So how many superhero shows are out atm and are coming out in the near future?
Arrow
The Flash
Gotham
Constantine
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
Am I missing something else?
You're missing a lot of them
DC:
iZombie
Preacher
Marvel:
Powers
Agent Carter
Daredevil
Luke Cage
Iron Fist
AKA Jessica Jones
Defenders
Powers is not MCU.
Also they aren't all superhero shows. They're just comic book adaptations from different genres. There's spy shows, horror shows, sci fi, crime and so forth. Every show is different.
You missed Hourman.
Cant effin wait for Preacher. It can translate brilliantly to TV in good hands and Seth Rogen and AMC got some really great hands.

BarrileteCosmico wrote:So The Strain had a great pilot, I'm pretty excited to see where this goes. It looks like a combination of modern infectious disease & oldschool vampire hunter motifs. They make it work somehow. I'm just happy they're going nowhere close to the "hot vampire falls for high school girl" thing.
Motogp69 wrote:Haven't really stuck with any of the new Summer shows. Giving "Your the worst" a chance, but "Married" was shit. Tyrant has been bad and poorly written. The Strain looks good, but I am not sold yet.
Extant has been promising thus far at least.
Hapless_Hans wrote:Butt wrote:The Strain is based on a novel by Guillermo Del Toro and another guy, so expect it to be dark and amazing

Watched the strain pilot. Very entertaining and well made.
Also watched Extant. Was ok.
A bit like a mixture of AI and the astronauts wife, with a smack of Solaris, the poverty versions though.
Steven Spielberg is like one of those guys with very noticable genes, no matter how many children he fathers out of wedlock they will always have these instantly recognizable huge ears or something like that.
Always with the little boys. And their mothers. Guy should go suck on some titties while listening to christmas songs, and then make another proper movie like Munich.

Might watch it because of Corey Stoll.
He was awesome at House of Cards.

I watched the pilot and thought it was well made but it's not really my kind of show. I might keep watching it for a bit since everything else out now sucks.

Don't really agree. There are some low profile gems in mid season.
The Americans first season (haven't come around to watching the 2nd yet) was one of the best shows I've seen.
Treme, of course, best show ever. If we except Sopranos.
Couple of years back Southland, about cops in LA was a pretty good, if grim, show.
Then there was Magic City, where they tried the Mafia history thing a la Boardwalk Empire in this stylized 50s fashion of Mad Men, set in Miami. Not bad, even if a bit too slick and not with the depth of Mad Men; sadly canceled.
Fwiw even The Bridge is a decent show worth watching, even if Diane Krugers main character needs some getting used to.
I like the Strain very much, no nonsense, well made B-movie stuff.

Seen quite a lot of episodes of House throughout the last 5 years. Great series. You learn so much about medicine and House's sarcasm is unrivalled

i couldn't take House seriously in the beginning, being a Fry and Laurie fan by watching almost all of \their shows, Jeeves and Wooster, Blackadder, A Bit of Fry & Laurie, i could only see him as a comedian

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
The problem is I'm all caught up on almost every show I want to watch. I got Community and Vikings lined up next.
M99, I've already watched all those great shows you mentioned. Band of Brothers is my favorite mini series of all time.
Hans, You need to start watching the second seasons of The Americans. It was even better than the first.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
Anyways, I'm trying some lesser known shows...
STARZ's Power (produced by 50 cent),
NBC's Crossbones (slightly better than Black Sails and that's down to John Malkovich),
CBS' Extant (haven't seen the latest episodes, will get back on that.)
Syfy's Dominion (Very campy, but I'll stick with it)
FOX's Gang Related (probably my favorite of the bunch so far)

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
Power is good but predictable. Still somewhat addictive once you start it.
Crossbones is complete and utter shit.
Extant is pretty interesting. New story. Interesting take. You'll like it, I think. I certainly do.
Saw 5 mins of Dominion and quit. Wasn't my genre(for reference, I don't watch TWD) and it looked shit anyway.
Gang Related was poor when I saw the pilot. But I have a friend who really likes the show so it may not be completely shit. Recycled story though.
