Mata is useless on the wings. It would be ok if we were talking about how arsenal play, with cazorla for example. but United need actual wingers on their flanks

At this point, Man Utd have failed to bring in so many players they cant really afford to snub someone of Mata's level.

The thought process is, bring in talent and figure out the rest later.

Obviously they have other, bigger issues, but I dont think it is even possible to fix them in Jan alone.

Absolutely baffling if we aren't in for Mata if he's available. We should bid., just to make sure he won't go to Utd.

He won't solve all United's problems, but he'd give the squad a massive boost and necessary momentum to fight back for the 4th spot.

The *bleep* are we doing... ...need an attacking player + Lucas replacement fast...or we don't deserve f*ck all from this year.

Mourinho would rather let Ba never play then let him go to Arsenal in the summer.

But he's going to sell Mata to Yanited? yeah right.

Makes perfect sense for Mourinho.

Chelsea are done with Man U this season. Even if they meet in CL, Mata can't play.

Man U on the other hand, are yet to play Chelsea's title rivals...so Mata at Man U increases their chances of getting something from those games.

Mourinho doesn't care that Mata is only 25 and could be at United for years and eventually haunt Chelsea. He only cares about getting the title this year and next. He know he won't be at Chelsea in start of 2015-16 season, so who cares if United have a competent manager by then and can be a force again, some of it thanks to Mata.

God....I hope this doesn't happen. We should put a bid and make Mata make a choice. At worst, it'll force United to pay up more money.

Yeah hard to believe Mourinho is selling someone as good as Mata to a Premier League club, Mata will probably receive Ba/de Bruyne treatment until the end of the season.

Moyes realises he has a chance at saving his job and our season this window. Expecting him to exhaust that 150million war chest. First of many IMO.

Stay mad Mole.

Chelsea don't need the money, so I don't see how giving a rival a top player would appeal to Mou in the slightest?

As for Dante, that's random.

Letting go of a player of Mata's quality seems ridiculous to me.

But then again, in the age of FFP, Chelsea's strategy of greedy stockpiling of major players in expensive positions like attacking midfield seems (for now) to be paying off nicely ... they had to pay substantially to get Matic back but they'll make nice profits due to KDB & Mata.

ridiculous? why is that? As good as Mata is, he is not indispensable or necessary for Chelsea to be successful. I thought Mourinho was proving this at great length already.

There is no such a thing as a player being indispensable to his team success, maybe Messi, but i sure someone could argue against. Football is a team sports, it's not tennis.

Relax. I was just saying that given Mata's proven quality for Chelsea over the last few seasons, it was puzzling that he'd be allowed to atrophy and sold off at all. As in, I personally wouldn't have frozen him out a bit, like Mourinho's done, if I were in charge at that club - that's an armchair opinion, obviously, but that's also what a football discussion forum is for. Anyway it's not as if they're short of quality AMs at Chelsea. You're right, they're doing pretty well without Mata at the center of things.

All the other stuff you're reacting to is your own projection. Nobody said or implied football is tennis.

You know, heaps of people keep saying this.

My response to what you just said, is why not just loan him out?

>He gets game time.
>He still helps "win points" off rivals.
>You don't stregthen a rival the next season.

Also, they've submitted a bid. No deal has been agreed just yet. Mourinho has stated that he'd need a transfer request to be sold.

Also, who's Chelsea going to sign if they sell Mata?

Mata is pretty much a back-up to Oscar, and Chelsea have a lot of games to play. Oscar's not going to play them all. Hazard won't be as effective as he is in the middle, than he is on the left. Willian has no end product... lol

We won't sell him because that will leave us with 4 AM's, We won't bring in anyone so it won't happen, not until the summer at earliest.

We single handedly made Liverpool relevant again by giving them Sturridge.

Mata can't even get games against Championship clubs these days. That coniving c**t (Mata went from fan favourite to simply a commodity almost overnight) Mourinho doesn't rate him particularly highly tbh, he's even played Willian and Hazard over Mata centrally on a few occasions.

The £40m will be put towards a big money striker in the summer. 29 year old Rooney I'm guessing.

You have to hand it to Mourinho he played this perfectly. Any other manager would be getting death threats if this happened under their watch.

So why not sell him in the summer?

Hazard is a lot better on the left and has time on the ball than when he's played in the middle.
Willian is pretty much in the team because of his workrate rather than his finishing/playmaking.
Oscar isn't going to play every game.
You've just sold KDB.

Mata could be key to you going on a trophy run and winning the league...

I wouldn't be surprised if Mourinho's making this all public to try and attract other teams to make a bid for him, thus driving his price higher. If he's to be sold, I'm certain it'll be in the summer rather than now in the winter.
