Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Moyes will still hope to snatch Fabregas from Barca or Thiago from Bayern and, when that surprisingly fails, he'll sign Mata for £45 million

Di Marzio wrote:With Fredy Guarin on his way out, Inter is looking for a replacement to replace the Colombian. The neroazzurri are considering Lazio’s Hernanes. Inter made an inquiry and Lazio president Lotito asked for 20 million. Inter will try to sell some players, they are in contact with Genoa for Mudingayi and Betis and Malaga for Mariga. By selling them Inter would also save on their wages to help pay Lazio for Hernanes. Inter is trying, Hernanes is their objective.

Don't think De Jong is suited to play as a striker, he has been playing in midfield most of his professional career. His skillset doesn't fall in line with that of a striker IMO

People are laughing off the talk of Mata going to United, but keep in mind that A) United really aren't a threat to Chelsea at the moment and B) United could also offer first refusal on Rooney if he wants out int he summer as a sweetener.

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Cagliari president Massimo Cellino has suggested that in-demand centre-back Davide Astori could leave on the cheap in January.
Astori - who was watched by Manchester United manager David Moyes earlier this month as part of a scouting trip to see the club take on Juventus - has five Italy caps to his name and is one of Cagliari's most prized assets following Radja Nainggolan's departure to Roma.
Cellino has been routinely frustrated by his blocked attempts to finance a new stadium for the Sardinia-based club - who have been forced to play home games in Trieste, some 670 miles away.
And with a perceived lack of ambition leading Cellino to let Nainggolan move to Roma this month, he has claimed he would happily allow Astori to follow.
"If tomorrow I was asked about Astori or others, I would let them go," Cellino told L'Unione Sarda.
"I cannot protect my boys and so I could give them all away, as was the case for Nainggolan.
"Radja was wanted by PSG and Manchester City, but I succumbed to Roma. He did not want to leave, he had to.
"Zenit were willing to pay €25 million last summer, Juventus offered €20m and were prepared to let me have him until the end of the season (on loan).
"But he could not stay here. How can he grow in a team with no ambition?
"He has gone to Roma. There he will grow with champions like (Francesco) Totti and (Daniele) De Rossi, a good coach and a club that already loves him."

I don't see how that could be an option RO. Mata is good, no doubt, but he can't possibly replace Rooney in Utd! It would be a step forward and two backward for Moyes, the way I see this. Besides, just because Chelsea get first refusal for the summer doesn't mean they'll get him. Utd could just offer him a fatter paycheck to show their ambition (like the previous occasion(s)) and he'd re-sign.
However, that said, I do agree with the first point about Utd not being a threat right now to Chelsea.
Personally, I think Atletico would be a more feasible destination for all parties involved. Rather, that's what I'd like to see. Mata with a La Liga medal

Didn't Mata grow up supporting Real Madrid??
would be odd seeing him at Atletico Madrid, but I agree that would probably be his best destination.

Yeah, let's just hand United one of the Top 3 playmakers on the planet, I mean why not include Hazard in the deal while we're at it as well?
And can people stop mentioning Atletico as a possible destination? They clearly can't afford him.

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
I just don't see Chelsea handing Utd a solid by selling them Mata. They aren't in a situation like Wenger was with RVP, they could just keep Mata for depth or just not use him.
And yea, as RedOranje pointed out, the only reason the deal could be struck would just be as a way to sweeten a summer deal with Utd towards selling Rooney to them. But again, I don't see Utd willing to part with Rooney so easily as he's practically their poster boy. I see Utd preferring to just give Rooney a new contract and as of now Rooney seems really happy at Utd since he's playing more and in his favorite position. So again, Utd's one bargaining chip to get Mata doesn't really seem that strong to begin with.
I want to point out that Mata isn't what Utd need. They have the attacking kind already they don't even use (Kagewa, cough). They don't even need the Koke kind (though he would be nice for them) when they are developing Januzaj. The Herrera type of midfielder would be the most ideal, not Mata. Utd just doesn't get it with mids...I mean they thought it was a good idea to get Fellaini
My guess....Mata doesn't move at all this winter; and if he does it's outside of the league (surprise loan move to Atleti maybe). Summer, he moves for sure though

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Manuel Pellegrini is confident Stevan Jovetic can still become an important player for Manchester City despite his injury woes.
"He came here with the illusion of playing in the Premier League," Pellegrini told the Manchester Evening News. "He was a very important player in Italy for Fiorentina and I still believe he will be a very important player for us.
"He can really start playing often in the next three months and I think he can be the player we hoped he would be.
"It’s very difficult to be happy when you’re not playing and you have so many injuries but he’s conscious that he will be 100 per cent fit and demonstrate why he’s here."
Jovetic is in the squad to face West Ham in the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final on Tuesday after recovering from hamstring and calf injuries, but Pellegrini is not sure how much of a part he will play.
"We’ll see what happens with Stevan in the next few days," he continued. "It’s an important chance for him to come back to play but I don’t think he’ll be able to play from the beginning or play 90 minutes."
