Re: Patrick Bamford
Gibbs joined Arsenal when he was 15
He's about as much an Arsenal youth product as Bertrand or Piazon are Chelsea youth products...
Same goes for Chesney who joined them when he was 16
Hayden had made a whopping 2 appearances for the senior side (both in the COC) in 2 years so counting him as an established first team squad-member means the same would be true of Ake, which is absurd. Same goes for Bellerin.
Ramsey an Arsenal youth product?
Don't really feel like addressing the rest at 10 to 10 at night.
All I'm saying is, it's unlikely.

Re: Patrick Bamford
Ake joined us at 15, did he not? Therefore he shouldn't be counted as a youth player, when did Bamford join us? 18, 19?
Surely he doesn't count then either,
The only two players who I listed that should count, according to you is Blackman and Baker.
Less unlikely considering Schwarzer won't be around much longer and Baker is our best youth talent in many years.

Re: Patrick Bamford
Except I'm not wanting him (Bamford) in the team because he's a youth player. I'm wanting him there cause he's English.
Baker as well because he's English, and a player at the club from childhood. Blackman too.
The rest I'm really not arsed about tbh, other than potential financial savings their making it could bring.

Re: Patrick Bamford
What I am saying is it's actually almost a standard for big clubs to have young players getting promoted.
Regardless of when they came.
We need to be doing the same.

Re: Patrick Bamford
There is no honour in promoting youth players for the sake of promoting youth players, and it will get us nowhere if that is the only impetus for doing so.
If they're of sufficient quality to occupy and excel in their particular role (starter, bench player, etc.) then absolutely; but bringing them up just to be able to say we did is meaningless.

Re: Patrick Bamford
I'm not saying that, of course they have to be quality enough but we have to give them a chance to prove their quality.

I don't deny that.
Hopefully José is meaning what he's saying about all this.

Chelsea starlet Patrick Bamford turned down Harvard University to play football:
Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford said he turned down a place at top US university Harvard for a career in football

Wow.
Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford said he turned down a place at top US university Harvard for a career in football
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/401902/Chelsea-Patrick-Bamford-turned-down-Harvard-football-dreams
"My ambition was always to play football and I knew I had the chance to achieve my dream."
"Dad always made sure I had a back-up and that's why I did my A-Levels. It was then just a decision as to whether I went down the education or football route."
"Just in case things didn't work out I'd already looked at universities and didn't fancy doing the English route."
"I applied abroad and somehow Harvard offered me a scholarship. But that was always a back-up."
Wow.

Re: Patrick Bamford
Bamford wrote:"The original plan was to stay at Chelsea and be a third striker this season. But the chance came to bring Didier Drogba back. Jose said I could stay if I really wanted but he said for my development and to make sure I am ready for Chelsea, the best option for me was to go out and play again."
"I know what the plan is for me. When I first signed for Chelsea they didn't really think, with the odd exception, that most players would be either emotionally or mature enough to play in the first team until they were 22 or 23. So if I keep biding my time until then and keep improving, hopefully I will get my chance."
"You can't really turn down the chance to go to Chelsea. After I'd gone to look round at Chelsea and heard their plans and heard the plan until you are 23, I thought playing with better players, and the coaching will be of a higher standard, so I will improve."
"I don't know what it is like for other players but I still have my sights set on Chelsea. I have to be patient."
More quotes from Paddy.

Re: Patrick Bamford
that is very impressive of him that he thought this through well regarding career. and seems like he comes from a very good family. good for him. I always admire players who work hard for the right cause both on and off the pitch.
Which reminds me of el shaarawy whose family didn't even let him sign contract with Milan before finishing school.
Inzaghi also has a degree in accounting, while our 3rd goalkeeper back in 2003-2007 Valerio Fiori knew he would have never played and instead used his time to study Law.
Meanwhile UEFA once listed that Giorgio Chellini also studied finance or something.
really nice to see some very intelligent players who are not all about money and have gave serious thought about themselves.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/9552569/championship-middlesbrough-hope-to-extend-patrick-bamford-loan-stay?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter"I'm very pleased with Patrick. He took time to settle in because he arrived in the first international break, and it's always difficult to arrive at a new place without pre-season."
"It's a new place to live, a new club, new team-mates and a new manager. Now he's working really well, scoring goals and I think his confidence is high."
"I don't think we need to speak a lot about Patrick's contract because he's happy here, the club are happy he's here and I am happy having him here. He's always involved with the lads in the changing room, so I couldn't understand why we would have problems extending his loan."
"I would really like him to stay all season and he knows that, but it's not just me. I like to have players here who want to be here and not because I want them to be here."
Some good words here.
