Barcelona tax suit could make Neymar the most expensive player in the world at over £120 Million
Barcelona could end up having to pay a further £67million for Brazilian striker Neymar pushing his final price up to nearly £120m if courts rule against them in two separate legal actions.
The Catalan Giants say they paid £47.8m for the Brazilian. Of this sum £14.2m was paid to Santos and to the two investment companies that also part-owned the player as a transfer fee, while a further £33.6m was paid to the company N&N owned by Neymar and his father.
Barcelona club member Jordi Cases has brought a suit against club president Sandro Rosell accusing him of misappropriation of funds and Judge Pablo Ruiz has given Barcelona five days to produce the relevant documentation to prove that the £34m payment was a legitimate commission.
If the judge is not convinced and decides that the £34m amounts to part of Neymar’s wages, then the club will have to pay the relevant 52percent tax on the amount.
This will increase the amount payable for Neymar to close to 84m and the mounting bill might not stop there.
Barcelona also paid a further £6.6m euros to Santos for the rights to three young players at the club. They are also committed to playing a friendly against Santos that the Brazilian club will take the profits from. If they don’t play the match then they will have to compensate Santos a further £3.6m euros. They will also have to pay another £1.7m if Neymar finishes in the Ballon d’Or top three.
Barcelona consider these additional payments to not be part of the transfer but this has upset investment company Sonda who part-owned Neymar and who were entitled to 45 percent of the transfer fee.
They earned £5.9m on the basis that the transfer was set at £14.2m. But with the extras added to the bill - included the £33.6m paid to N&N the final total was closer to £60.5m which would entitle them to around £26.9m. They are currently going through the Brazilian courts to reclaim the 25m they feel they are owed.
With extra tax and an increase in what they have to pay Sonda the final price for Neymar could rise to over £118m and make Neymar and not Gareth Bale the most expensive player in history.

As usual, arrogant and clueless post from our friend futbol.
There have been many cases where similar payments to this one (usually due to federative rights paid to a company instead of a club) have been deemed as salary by spanish courts and the Club or the player have been forced to pay taxes on them.
