There was a precedent. The FA couldn't get away had they not charged Wilshere.

Of course they do
Because Liverpool fans have the world is against us BS mentality doesn't mean English players get away with things.
Suarez was banned repeatedly because he repeatedly acts like a c*ntbag no other reason.
Deal with it.

Yea. the same mentality that got Defoe a yellow card for biting Mascherano, and Suarez 10 match ban for biting Ivanovic.

Wilshere charged by FA
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/fa-statement-jack-wilshere
Arsenal midfield player Jack Wilshere has been charged by The FA with making an offensive and/or insulting and/or abusive gesture.
The charge follows an alleged gesture made during the fixture between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, December 14. The incident was not seen by match officials but was caught on video.
Wilshere has been charged retrospectively by The FA under a new pilot project for potential ‘not seen’ incidents in Premier League matches.
Under the new process, if an incident has not been seen by the match officials, a three-man panel will be asked by The FA to review it and advise what, if any action, they believe the match referee should have taken had it been witnessed at the time.
For an FA charge to follow, all three panel members must agree it is a sending-off offence. In this instance, the panel were unanimous.
Wilshere has until 6pm on December 18 to respond to the charge.

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
Adebayor sprinted 80 yards to celebrate a goal in front of the other teams fans. I guarantee that caused far more aggravation than that gesture. But he got no ban for it.

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
Surely you jest... Players can celebrate wherever they want on the field, but celebrating does not include offensive gestures. You can't charge someone for causing aggravation if what they have done is not offensive in the first place. We might as well ban scoring goals because that will aggravate fans of the other team.Eman wrote:+1DuringTheWar wrote:Adebayor sprinted 80 yards to celebrate a goal in front of the other teams fans. The FA can't really control fans, but it can control players. And had the ref seen Wilshere flip off the fans 9 out of 10 times it would have been an automatic red card. The Franchise wrote:Fans can say whatever the f-uck they like, with no issues. Dude flips the bird and its a "sending off offence"

A red for that? As I said, soft.
Its nothing, noone cares. The fan/s it was directed at probably laughed.
I dont care the fans cant get punished for the sometimes vile and disgusting things they say, its part and parcel of football I suppose, but when a player does something so small and meaningless (probably because of something vile and disgusted levelled at him) and he gets punished so severely for it...dont make sense to me.

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
Players are expected to be role models on the field. It wouldn't really be playing the game in the right spirit if players were allowed to do such things without some sort of punishment. It may not have been offensive to the fans, they were probably proud of themselves for getting a reaction, but it's not something a little kid who's watching the game needs to see.

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
Well that's why the players are professionals. Guess you could look at it two ways: they shouldn't disrespect the fans who are paying to watch them play
or, the fans shouldn't be so thick as to disrespect the players they're paying to watch. As long as they're consistent with their banning, meh.
But since they insisted on this ban and said nothing about the officiating of that match then the FA can do one.

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
This "players are expected to be role models" argument
Brb organizing an orgy
Brb smoking some weed
Brb partying 'till dawn with slags
Brb hiring a Thai prostitute
Brb buying my dog a gold covered bodywarmer
But flip the bird and, suddenly, the entire spirit of the game comes into question
Not that i agree with Wilshere's actions, but a bit of common sense is needed here

Re: Wilshere charged by FA
Role model stuff never makes sense, these are football players. They kick the ball around, thats it. They arent responsible for bringing up the youth of today. Refer to the Charles Barkley commercial for more on that.
And lets be real, there probably isnt a single boy in Manchester who's PARENTS havent told him to "fark off, ye lille' shite"..let alone be distraught and question the meaning of life because some Arsenal player flipped bird.
Matter of fact, I didnt even see it happen untill the media made it a "thing".
I get it, cant do stuff like that on the field, yada yada.
Fine him, whatever...but red card offence? Seriously?

I don't really agree with the role model things... off the pitch. But on the pitch they have an ethical obligation to behave in such a way that represents their employers' values.
