Nadine Angerer Appreciation Thread
Well, I guess Nadine Angerer does deserve a proper thread of her own after all.
The Number 1 of the German Women NT strikes fear into the hearts of her opponents, just like Oliver Kahn did at his heyday:
Nadine Angerer holds the record of going through a whole World Cup (2007) without conceding one single goal and thus she was elected goalie of the tournament in 2007.
In the Euro 2013, she managed to save two penalties against the German NT in the final - and not during a penalty shoot-out, but during the normal 90 minutes of the match, thus making sure that Germany won their 6th consecutive European Championship (the 8th overall). Consequently, Nadine Angerer was elected best player of the Euro 2013 tournament
Celebrating the win of the Euro 2013:
UEFA European Women Player of the Year 2013
As now the shortlist of the FIFA Golden Ball Award 2013 was published, she made the top three who will compete for the honour in January 2014.
The FIFA Ballon d'Or 2013 female players shortlist:
- Nadine Angerer (Brisbane Roar / Germany)
- Marta (Tyresö FF / Brazil)
- Abby Wambach (Western New York Flash / USA)

Well, so far there were 11 Euros for the women. Germany did not qualify for the first two, but then won 8 of the other 9 with one fail where we only reached the 4th place in between.

Loving that avatar, Rwo
About Angerer though...she's indeed a rock solid keeper and easily the best in the world right now after dethroning Hope Solo. I'm rooting for Wambach (for obvious reasons) for the Ballon D'or, but if Angerer wins it, it would be fully deserved as well.

LOL, I lost a bet against Robespierre and he gave me that avatar for three days
Well, Abby Wambach would indeed be deserving, too, but I always root for the goalies as they are rarely recognized by the broader public. I just fear that Marta might be handed the win on reputation...

You may want to stop while your behind, gnrfan. Dig any deeper and you'll not be able to get yourself out again.
As for Angerer, it's good to see the second best female 'keeper getting some real recognition. With only the Euros as a major tourney this past year it was bound to be a European player that won it, and I'm glad they recognised that she was the best rather than focusing on a more flashy out-field player.

Re: Nadine Angerer Appreciation Thread
I DO GREATLY RESPECT WOMEN'S FOOTBALL, ALSO I LIKE THE FACT THAT THEY DIDN'T CHOOSE A FLASHY OUTFIELD PLAYER JUST BECAUSE IT'S EASIER TO EXPLAIN TO THE PEOPLE NOT PAYING ATTENTION, that being said, kind of had to be a German this year for the females. Though they do keep getting robbed in favor of Marta for some reason in international years, even though Brazil never wins anything (in womens football).

Well, Nadine Angerer will play for Portland Thorns in the NWSL from April on, so they will be on the same team. ^^

Morgan has been injured for much of the season, and the US didn't play in any major competitions/tournaments so she was never going to win it this year regardless.

@Arqui
Good that you can only find fault in her looks, but not in her ability and in the silverware she won.

Well, I guess you might want to take a look at one or the other match of the German Women NT in the future. The World Cup Qualification for the World Cup 2015 in Canada is in full swing already:

Re: Nadine Angerer Appreciation Thread
Thanks RWO!
mannschaft der Frauen is actually the only female team I have casually followed alongside the Japanese women's team, both teams to which I have found interest in, despite my lack of interest in women's football.
I'm surprised I haven't seen much of Angerer considering I have seen Grings, Hintz, and possibly my favourite female footballer, Bridget Prinz more than a few times.
From what I hear, Canada women's NT is far more serious than a weak male NT, so I'm sure they will cause Germany a few problems here and there; only then I can witness Angerer's ability.

Re: Nadine Angerer Appreciation Thread
Well, I remember Canada from the 2011 World Cup when they were our opponents in the group stage. I was very impressed by the Canadian skipper Christine Sinclair, who incidentally plays together with Nadine Angerer for Portland Thorns this season.
It should be easy to catch matches of the German NT as they are all shown on German FreeTV and thus they will be available via official streams either at ard.de or zdf.de (German proxy needed).
Normally, the teams of Sweden and France are pretty good as well. Sweden have a fantastic striker with Lotta Schelin, and France have many players from the famous Olympique Lyonnais side like Eugénie Le Sommer and Louisa Nécib.

Re: Nadine Angerer Appreciation Thread
You'd better look at her collection of silverware
2x World Cup Winner and 5x European Cup winner with the German NT, 2x winner of the BL, 4x Winner of the DFB-Cup, winner of the UEFA Women's Cup (aka CL)... And as she will likely captain Germany in 2015 at the World Cup again, she might even add to the international tally.

Why culprit? Don't you think the Women's Ballon d'Or winner and Europe's Player of the Year 2013 is not worth to be featured here?
