- Superman | Gianluigi Buffon #1 - Page 3 Empty Buffon: 'I apologise to fans'

Post by DeviAngel Thu Apr 04, 2013 4:55 pm

Gianluigi Buffon has apologised to Juventus and their fans after the defeat to Bayern Munich and “cannot object” to Franz Beckenbauer’s scathing criticism.

The goalkeeper did not seem his usual self in last night’s 2-0 Champions League quarter-final loss.

“It happens in this profession to make mistakes,” Buffon told Italian TV show Striscia La Notizia.

“I’m disappointed, as the game was compromised, so I have to apologise to the team and the fans.”

Honorary Bayern Munich President Beckenbauer caused controversy when he said Buffon “seemed like a pensioner” when letting David Alaba’s deflected effort go past him after 30 seconds.

“I cannot object to anything, as Beckenbauer is an old sage. We all just have to stay quiet and wait for the next game to make up for it.”

Gigi

Was at fault for the 2nd goal, however that was offside. The 1st goal was the usual deflection against us. Not much he could have done, more about luck than anything.

Neither SERIE B have wounded the pride of JUVENTUS, and these germans, think they can touch their pride with two goals,

I don't know if JUVENTUS will win the game or not, because someone got to lose, but I am sure about this, JUVENTUS will not stand relaxed in their own stadium, and I am sure that BAYERN is afraid of that,

By the way, there is a cute interview with Buffon in German language in the Münchener Abendzeitung. I don't have the time to translate it, but maybe it suffices to run it through some online translator (that's why I don't open a new thread for it):

Torwart von Juventus Turin

"Es ist nicht leicht, Buffon zu sein"

by Filippo Cataldo, 06.04.2013 11:00 Uhr

Beckenbauer apologises to Buffon

Franz Beckenbauer has apologised for calling Gigi Buffon “a pensioner” after his performance against Bayern Munich. “I didn’t want to offend him, but...”

The honorary President of Bayern made the comments after Juventus lost 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

His suggestion Buffon “looked like a pensioner” when trying to stop the two goals sparked outrage in Italy.

“I apologise to Buffon if he felt offended by my words, as it was not my intention,” Beckenbauer told Bild.

“However, I remain convinced of my opinion: Buffon should’ve been able to block the first and second goals.”

- Superman | Gianluigi Buffon #1 - Page 3 Empty Buffon: 'It's a six-pointer'

Post by DeviAngel Sun Dec 01, 2013 7:55 pm

Gigi Buffon said the stoppage-time win over Udinese was “a six-pointer” for Juventus.

The 1-0 victory in Turin was their sixth on the bounce in Serie A, achieved with six clean sheets.

“It was an important game, there’s no point denying there are draws that can feel like defeats and wins that can feel like they are worth six points. This was a six-pointer,” the goalkeeper told Sky Sport Italia.

“Whatever the result, it would’ve been fair and hardly scandalous, as it was an even game.”

Buffon had to make a series of stunning saves, particularly on Antonio Di Natale and Andrea Lazzari.

“In my career I have almost always played in top clubs, so I am accustomed to making few saves per game, but important ones. I have to prove myself every game, the same as any other player.

“We faced a team with a great Coach and a team that plays good football. Udinese can really hurt you on the break and have a lot of quality, so they are a tough opponent to deal with.”
The ultras were banned from the Curva Nord and Curva Sud sections today, so those were filled with children.

“It was nice to fill the stands, because playing with empty seats is not a good advert for football. I was very pleased to see the kids respond, as they cheered us on. I also thank them, as they allowed us to play earlier, which is good in this weather! It was freezing today.”

- Superman | Gianluigi Buffon #1 - Page 3 Empty Buffon believes Pogba will sign

Post by DeviAngel Wed Dec 04, 2013 4:12 pm

Gianluigi Buffon is confident that Paul Pogba will follow Arturo Vidal’s lead and sign an extension at Juventus.

Vidal penned a new deal with the Bianconeri on Tuesday that keeps him in Turin until 2017.

And the goalkeeper has claimed that the French midfielder, who was recently named as the best under-21 player in Europe, will join his Chilean teammate.

“If Arturo, with all the offers he had, signed with Juve, it means there is an important project here,” he told Tuttosport.

“It means that the best, most decorated players, believe they can achieve everything in the game here.

“And I think you’ll see that with Pogba. I don’t know when [he will sign] but I’m sure it’s just a matter of days.”

Buffon then commented on next summer’s World Cup and the Scudetto challenge that comes before it with the Bianconeri.

“I hope the World Cup lasts as long as possible for us. There are three or four teams that are stronger than us, but no team knows how to fight like Italy.

“Roma have been a big surprise. If they find continuity, they can fight all the way until the last week.”

So glad to see him return back to form after a really dodgy first few months. Not conceded a single goal since the Fiorentina game in the league and apparently he's broken his own personal record(which was in 2003 i think) of not conceding for this long.

Buffon believes attitude is key

Gianluigi Buffon has admitted that everyone at Juventus is ‘aware’ how important tomorrow’s game with Galatasaray is.

The Bianconeri travel to Istanbul knowing that a draw or a win will see them through to the Last 16 of the Champions League.

And the goalkeeper has insisted that his men will remain calm under the pressure of what is sure to be an intense atmosphere in the Turkish capital.

“I’ve never seen a fan score and if it happened tomorrow it should be disallowed, so we’re perfectly calm from that point of view,” he told reporters.

“A lot will depend on our attitude and how we’re able to deal with any difficulties we encounter, a bit like our meeting with Celtic in March.

“When you play games at this level you find yourself up against quality opponents, so the risk of conceding is always there.

“Galatasaray have world class players up front and so we could have some problems. The important thing is also to have a solution.”

Buffon sixth in all-time list

Only five goalkeepers have remained unbeaten in Serie A for longer than Gigi Buffon after the Juventus man finally conceded following 745 minutes.

The custodian had kept eight clean sheets in a row until Maxi Moralez scored past him in Juventus’ 4-1 win at Atalanta.

Another clean sheet in Bergamo would have seen him jump up to third in the all-time list, but he now joins Luca Marchegiani in sixth.

1. Rossi (Milan) 929 minutes 1993-94
2. Zoff (Juve) 903 minutes 1972-73
3. Da Pozzo (Genoa) 791 minutes 1963-64
4. Pelizzoli (Roma) 774 minutes 2003-2004
5. Pinato (Atalanta) 757 minutes 1996-97
6. Marchegiani (Lazio) 745 minutes 1997-98
6. Buffon (Juve) 745 minutes 2013-2014
8. De Sanctis (Roma) 744 minutes 2013-2014
9. Reginato (Cagliari) 712 minutes 1966-67
10. Handanovic (Udinese) 704 minutes 2010-2011
