Under Sabella, Messi plays a different role compared to earlier years. He plays much closer to goal and isn't nearly as involved in the build up play like he was in 2010.

He's a SS for Argentina and is playing off Higuain. I expect him to score a fair few goals. If Argentina make a deep run, I wouldn't at all be surprised if Messi or Higuain were the top scorers.

Surprised Neymar isn't mentioned more often, is it because of his Barça goalscoring form? Because with Brazil he's a different beast.

I haven't seen Diego Costa mentioned yet. He will have the most creative midfield backing him and as the only natural goalscorer in the team he will essentially be the focal point of their attack. If they reach semis (which is likely) I would not be surprised to see him take the trophy home.

I too, am surprised Neymar has only been mentioned, well once. His form for Brazil is very good. 27 goals in 46 games despite only being 21 years of age. :bow:

I think Neymar will fall short due to pressure and standards people give him, the world cup can scare a young player very easily.

2 legit goals in R 16 and Quarters and miss that all important pen that could see Ghana in the final Proud

but still end at 5 goals and win the golden boot....

He' been playing for Brazil for years now, and he's been the main man at the same time.

He's played in huge crowds since he was 16 and he's playing in his backyard in Brazil. No chance of him flopping. If Brazil progress far, Neymar will be key to that.

Blindly looking at who's playing I'd say Müller as well, but we got 3 defensively solid teams in the group stage, there's other players that can stat pad against minnows before the knockouts even start, so who knows?

The tougher our opponents, and the less we score, the more likely it becomes that our few goals are scored by Müller imho.

I would bet on Messi, just hope he's fit.

Road to Final for ARG/Messi will probably be:

GS: Bosina+Iran+Nigeia
R16: Swiss/France/Ecuador
QF: Belgium/Portugal/Russia
SF: Spain/Italy
F: Brazil/Germany

I think he'll be happy playing against Spain in the semi-finals. A fit Messi can rape their defence.
