Fifa extends Ballon d'Or voting deadline

World football's governing body has confirmed that the date has been put back to November 29 due to a low number of responses, while those who have submitted can change their mind

Fifa has opted to extend the voting period for the Ballon d'Or awards following a low number of responses from designated representatives.

The original deadline passed on Friday, but voters now have until November 29 to make their choice, with the prize to be presented in Zurich on January 13.

As part of Fifa's decision, those who have already voted are able to change their mind.

"Due to a low number of responses from coaches and captains of the national teams as well as media representatives and in order to ensure a representative number of votes Fifa and France Football have extended the deadline for the voting until 29 November 2013," a Fifa spokesperson confirmed.

"Member Associations and media representatives who had been invited to vote on the above mentioned awards have been informed accordingly.

"Votes which had already been submitted can be changed until November 29."

The news comes after Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the favourites for the award, registered a stunning hat-trick against Sweden on Tuesday night to confirm his country's qualification for the 2014 World Cup.

Lionel Messi, the winner of the Ballon d'Or for the last four years, is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury.

They extended voting cuz Messi won it again. but fifa wants Ronaldo or Ribery to win it this time cuz if Messi does then this award will become a joke ( more than before ).

I don't care which player it is, but reopening the deadline after it has already passed shouldn't be allowed.

Obvious cover up by Blatter and Fifa to overshadow the whole Ronaldo debacle that occurred last month. Wouldn't surprise me at all, if CR wins now, to show that there is no conspiracy against him.

Basicly yes. It will be the most undeserved Ballon d'Or off all time if Cronaldo wins it. Top of the rule changes, he wins nothing, lifts his team to record loss in league, 6 points behind this season, gets booted with a red from cup final and needs playoffs to reach to World Cup. Alltough I still trust voters morality on this matter.

Rapes Barca in the Camp Nou twice, scores winners in the Round of 16 and quarters (both legs), finishes with 40+ goals in the league again, scores the opener in the CDR Final (unlucky not to win), doesn't brood on the bench in an important game like a certain someone, top scorer in the UCL last season and this...... :coffee:

It's a shame that what FIFA have done now has tarnished this year's Ballon D'Or regardless of who wins it.

Crynaldo winning it would play in the hands of all the theories about underhand tactics employed by FIFA to show they're impartial after Blatter's comments a short while back.

Crynaldo kicking up a fuss has played into his hands and he'll probably win that award he wants more than anything else.
