I think you guys need to realize theres more to heading than just heading it in the net. He won a lot of knock downs for us which allowed us to push up on the other teams defense better. but he also won headers in our own box which helped a lot in the first half of the season. But we should aslo look at the delivery of the crosses. When you have wingers and full backs that couldnt cross to save there lives its gonna be tough scoring with your head.

I think i'd be ok with Vermaelen at LB if we got in another good CB, as theres far more of them out there. Someone like Vertonghen would do well.

Chamakh is very strong in the air even if he doesn't look like he has the physical attributes for it. he's got a mean jump and good positioning for it. hella accurate too. If he can get his head around movement when the ball is on the deck, along with passing, dribbling and shooting (a bit much?) then he'd be a great backup.

Not saying he is shit in the air or anything, the guy can handle himself in the air.I just think he is not as great in the air some people make him out to be, last season I saw him easily beaten in the air by some centre Halves.

Last season is not a good enough gauge of Chamakh..

i am hoping you guys can sign mertesacker as your cb. should be a good signing and since his contract runs out in 2012 i am sure you can get him for 12 - 15 mil at the most.
hope mr wenger sees sense in that deal and gets him.

Haha a few months ago on the old forums I was trying to get people excited about Mertesacker but it didn't really work. I highly rate him, but the general consensus is that he is better when defending from deep with bodies in front of him, as opposed to in a high offside line like we play. I agree with this, but personally I'd still like to sign him because he is big, strong, and highly skilled. If we sign him, you and I can have a nice little party

Agreed with the fact that he is not very very fast in a high line defense, but look at gerard pique, he is not the fastest defender out there but more than makes up for it in tactical awareness.
Same with mertersacker, will bring a wealth of experience to the team and is tactically astute. infact he was called per ' no tackle/foul ' mertersacker i think because he would never give away a foul and stuff. excellent excellent defender. I wanted someone to get him instead of varane that we got.

Anyway hopefully someone steps in for him, will be good if its you guys
