Re: casillas on the bench...again
Mou wanted Real Madrid players to take an antagonistic public stance against Barca and the rest of the footy world... he wanted to create an "us against the world" situation where he (Mou ) would be the dictator.
Well, that's not how it works at Madrid. The Spanish NT players of Madrid are friends with Spanish NT players of Barca and, by tradition, Madrid players & management try to behave well. Madrid are not an underdog team and we won't behave like one.
Ramos and Iker were basically at odds with Mou over this (others too). He wanted to break the Ramos/iker influence on the club. He first benched Ramos for Varane if you remember... but then Pepe started playing badly and got injured. He was forced to play Ramos. Then, he used Iker by saying "i feel that Adan is the better goalkeeper" () which is obvious bs.
Basically, Mou tried to make himself the emperor of Madrid by attacking the other influential figures (Ramos and Iker)... it failed miserably.
Mou was also trying to deflect attention from his piss poor management and bad results to start the season by blaming the players and pointing the finger at Ramos and Iker.
All political.

Casillas is a shot stopper. Shot stoppers tail off faster than keepers such as vds, Buffon, Cech etc who are well rounded.

He won't leave.
Media hype.
He knows he can stay and still be the best.
Players will be rotated. He's not exempt...
And if he thinks otherwise, he can go.
I love the man, but, he's not bigger than the team.
I'm sure he knows this

I know people have opinions,
but to say that about Cassilas is just plain pathetic..
i have been watching Cass since 2001, and he is more than JUST a shot stopper...

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Why's he dropped then? If you're going on accomplishments and facts.. He's dropped. Barthez was the same. A good shot stopper, won world cups, euro championships, the lot. Average in other areas.

Madrid was too big of a club with too much tradition... Mou couldn't handle it. He needs someplace where his personal brand equals or exceeds those of the club OR the club is so desperate that it will do whatever he says.aleumdance wrote:lol, That kind of act will only work in English football or Italian football...

mate were u alive last season?
he was first dropped for Political reasons, which sprtzny explained clearly.. Mou wanted a Dictatorship and Iker was not ready to bend over, he later went on to play Adan saying Adan is better..
SECONDLY.. iker got injured which brought in Diego Lopez, but Diego has put in a Good performance all round no need to drop him..

That's why your lot haven't won the CL in the last decade. Probably won't in it in the next 5 years either with that mentalitysportsczy wrote:Madrid was too big of a club with too much tradition... I think Lopez playing vs Granada was a message to the media to stop campaigning for iker to start and that only he chooses the line up. I think eventually iker will claim back his spot

It's not just Mourinho's behaviour, attitude etc. His tactics were poor as well in the big games.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Bayern hadn't won a CL since 2001 until last year. Juve since 1996.
Winning CL is about luck and skill. Madrid were always a contender before Mou and we'll always be a contender after Mou. We'll win one sooner or later since we're not going away from being an elite club anytime soon.
Chelsea can whore themselves to Mou since he's the one who made them into a decent club to begin with. Completely irrelevant club before that...

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Barca weren't at their best last season. Only his record vs Pep's Barca should be looked at. Also it's inevitable Mourinho would do well vs Barca after so many games.
The CL big games is where he struggled. The team just didn't have the a big team mentality like other teams do and was a one dimensional counter-attacking side.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Yes, Jupp wasn't "bigger" than Bayern but his views and his general philosophy matched Bayern. Same with Pep at Barca.aleumdance wrote:common man...Blue Barrett wrote:That's why your lot haven't won the CL in the last decade. Call it "whoring" or whatever you like but your manager's philosophy matching your club's general philosophy is very important. In this day and age, maybe only Carlo will succumb to Madrid's silly sense of entitlement and pride(since he tends to adapt everywhere he goes). I don't see any other manager in the world bending that way for them.
Juve have worked hard to get to where they are right now. They hit rock bottom and are back up now, and I think they have changed in a lot of ways. They certainly look more likely to win a CL than Madrid. Bayern were always gonna win a CL with that team under Jupp so that point is irrelevant as well. No other club carries the same mentality Madrid do, even though there are clubs with almost as much trophies.
Sad because you lot can't see it but I guess whatever makes you feel better. Its going to be a long wait.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Apart from the period between 97-02, the last time you won it was in the 60's. Football isn't even the same as it was in 2005. I'm talking about right now.Mr Nick09 wrote:Madrid has been drowned in politics for decades yet we won 9 CLs, i dont really see your point.

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Mou didn't bench Casillas for political reasons only. He benched him for poor attitude in training and crap performances in official games. Mourinho didn't have anyone better than Adan at his disposal. How was he going to teach Casillas a lesson? He benched him.
In the next transfer window, Lopez was brought and he did one hell of a job. I'm really happy he is the starter, no longer afraid of crosses into the box when Arbeloa or Marcelo get beaten on the flanks. Jo well done, Mou!

Re: casillas on the bench...again
Iker had regained his starting spot in January. Only reason we bought Lopez was because Iker was seriously injured and out for 2 months... got Lopez as an emergency.
So this whole "teaching Iker a lesson" crap doesn't sit at all.
Besides, after the Euro and until December, CR7, Ozil and Alonso were in as bad form or worse than Iker. Pepe wasn't exactly setting the world on fire either.
Seems like Mou cherry picked the guys he didn't like for "setting an example" in Ramos and Iker.
It was 90% political. Nothing else.
