Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If Wenger dare spends that money on Draxler he, imho, will just prove that he's genuinely, mentally, unstable. €40m is just pathetic and absurd beyond reproach.
And he had the audacity to have an opinion on Spuds and their dealings; Signing so many players potentially destabilising the team - you'd actually think that Wonga has never been guilty of buying half a dozen players in as many days...oh, hold on, wait...
Wenger is a hypocritical deluded fool whose stubborn ways and "socialist model" have no part in this club. Granted, it's a rumour, but fvck about, is he really going to panic into buying Draxler for €40m? Guess Gnabry and Eisdeld will be gettin released this time next year.

I hope we don't get him tbh, he's old, he's on high wages, doesn't look interested in football anymore, is in bad physical shape and has lost his main asset = pace. Should go to MLS or Serie A instead.lenear1030 wrote:Rumors are madrid could let Kaka go for free. We know Wenger likes frees...
Milan would probably get him before us on one of those loan-option-to-buy-paid-in-numerous-installments deals with our incompetence

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
As it was before, a collective boardroom each had their own strengths and areas to cover. We could have that right now. Stan has his own strengths, Usmanov too. Then theres the legacy in Sir Chips, a few other yes men and of course the outsider David Dein. There is scoop for a real productive boardroom all in the best interest of Arsenal FC but at the moment the club isn't being put first. Its all dirty politics which isn't benefiting Arsenal in any way. Banking 100+m isn't anything to rave about when the very people who are pushing the on (support) are being treated very very very badly.Raptorgunner wrote:Welcomeprolific wrote:Hello. There just isn't a middle ground which is insane. I still cannot believe Arsenal never made a bid when Higuain was available at 25m. They only agreed personal terms with the player.

Exactly.urbaNRoots wrote:I don't think people on here realize how good Draxler actually is
If you'd watched him play you'd understand that he's an excellent talent and has massive potential up there with the very top of young talent and I'm talking up there with Gotze, Hazard etc.

Draxler isn't what we flippin need right now. We have many youngens who aren't even getting a sniff. Am I right in thinking that the inference I'm drawing supports the notion that you actually think spending £38m on Draxler is good business?

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Draxler is a real baller and getting him would be exciting on a football level because it's always great to have a young, sky's-the-limit player with his qualities.
But good as he is, he's not yet fully mature; it's not like he can carry the team. And while he might add some things to the squad, but he doesn't play in one of the really key positions that should be (should have been!) strengthened for depth at the very least.
I will forever lament that this summer the club didn't just do whatever it took to get Higuain and Gustavo, perhaps a really solid GK like Begovic, and 1-2 depth signings. That would have been a team to win a cup or two, and maybe had an outside shot at the league. And then next summer would have been the great time to drop some more cash on a player like Draxler. But que sera sera, dudes.
(Or, as I see right now, I more or less agree with Supercartts above re: Draxler.)

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I really, honestly do expect that Arsenal will have a few deadline day signings a la 2011. I just think they'll be underwhelming. Maybe something like ...
- Spoiler:
Todor Nedelev

Odil Ahmedov
http://cdn2.horseedmedia.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Fernando-Torres-Liverpool-007.jpg
Fernando "Scoreless" Torres
Replace Nedelev or Torres with Kaka, maybe. But then replace Kaka with "injured Kaka" by September 5.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
This place is just filled with venom. Fair enough some of you guys want Arsene to go away, but to say the things that have been said about the greatest manager our club has ever had
Others say that us gooners are a fickle bunch... I am starting to see why they might feel that way now.
Not much we can do (if ...and a big ass if) about the lack of signings. Lets just enjoy the football and support our team. Do know that Ivan Gazidis was mainly hired (in 2008) so that wenger did not have to worry about having to close the deals. Its not Arsene's job to close the deals. So our lack of business is down to our board and not wenger. His job is to round up the talents and have Gadizis take care of the signings.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I'd say it is Wenger's fault that deals weren't closed. The flipside to having as much power as Wenger does is that he has to take a lot of the blame when things work out poorly.Arsenalfaithfull wrote:This place is just filled with venom. I admire Wenger greatly. He's a great manager, better than almost anyone else out there. It's also the case that Wenger is largely responsible for ensuring that Arsenal are such a big and well-run modern club that its fans have very high expectations, and aren't merely satisfied with consistent CL qualification. So I don't join in with the anti-Wenger folks who want to take every bad thing and make him the scapegoat ... even in cases where it may not be his fault at all. "I stubbed my toe! Wenger out!"
At the same time, this doesn't mean he's done as well as he could have (and should have) done recently. It also doesn't mean that the fans are asking for that much when we ask for some investment in the squad. The chance was Wenger's for the taking this summer, and he's just about blown it. Maybe come Monday night GMT he'll have salvaged a little of it. But I don't expect much at this point. As much as I like the man, as noble as he is, it's hard to judge his (in)action during the past few months as anything but a failure. It doesn't mean Wenger's overall career is a failure. It certainly doesn't logically necessitate that his future tenure at Arsenal - however long it may be - will remain a failure. But I can't conceive of any rational standards by which this summer of 2013 could be viewed as a success. Yes, I suppose almost all the deadwood players are gone, but that's also left a threadbare squad who are already experiencing the weird injury crises that plague Arsenal every single year.
Internet football culture often wants us to forget the incontrovertible fact that, yes, we can have mixed feelings and complex opinions about a subject. A subject like Wenger. Personally I just want to see Arsenal compete earnestly for trophies while playing football you can feel good to cheer for. I'm more than happy to have Wenger stay at the helm if he can deliver that. That's the same fundamental standard I'd apply to any manager.
Marquee signings, functional signings, or no signings ... it will still feel great if Spurs get thrashed this weekend.

It's not optimism. I see things differently from what you people do. For example for me big money signing is not just quality it has other aspects attached to it as we'll, if arsenal sign someone big during the match opposition most likely attach someone to him, this frees up space for the rest of the team.Twoism wrote:I admire his optimism if he's sincere, one level above RG. Considering this arsenal side it is right mix and we can only get better and better. We have players who can step up to the challenge. We don't need anyone for the sake of signing. Only those players who can easily integrate and will improve what we already have.
You ppl demand benzema but the prob is like higuain he isn't suited to arsenal. We need some one like giroud example hulk what work at arsenal. Suarez was also better.
Bender again is little use for us but cabaye would have improved us more.

I assume your 1st point is that opposition would man mark big signing during the game? Isn't it defender job?
We do need signing for depth and no, our players have been expected to step up to the challenge and always fell short, be it quality or quantity of the team. Pundits, experts, rival & neutral fans have been saying Arsenal is 3 or 4 players short to compete with the best for the last couple of year already, so not just my people, gunners.
And you lost me again on Benzema, Hulk & Bender, Cabaye. Benzema game is perfect fit for Arsenal, movement, link up; Hulk is terrible, he's shooting machine now. Bender is exactly what we need, Cabaye is way too similar to Arteta ( hint: back up for Arteta).

It's the same story with Suarez, Benzema, Gotze ( last summer) if the bid is rumored to be true, aim at very difficult targets, offer some high number ( high for Arsenal standard, still below market norm), get rejected and shrug it off with " Well we did fancy and try big names". Fans will let it go "What more can Arsenal do?" And we enter season like usual, 13 fully fit players and 5 injury prone or deadwood back upaleumdance wrote:lol, anyone who believes Draxler is coming LOL
