well, why the hell not. As long as the writing is good, the cast will perform.

Those descriptions fit all the mentioned male actors as a glove. It's like they have been written for the personalities they're best at portraying on screen. I don't know about the girls. Can see Rachel McAdams pulling that role off. Don't know how I'd see Elisabeth Moss as a tough girl, since I've only seen her in the first season of Mad Men, which didn't impress me much. Can anyone shine a light on her abillity to pull off the role in the description?

there's this New Zealand series by Jane Campion where she plays the female lead, I think a cop/investigator too.

Only seen half of an episode but bookmarked it in ym head, also a moody dark location-driven crime drama I guess.

So Elisabeth Moss can play a tough girl no problem, part of the story of Mad Men also is how she gets tougher.

Rachel McAdams is maybe a bit too pretty? I like her though

Anyone seen the Killing on AMC? Was a great, strange little female cop in the lead as well.

Moss was pretty good in Top of the Lake from what I remember and I like Farrell. I really can't picture Vaughn in a drama though it doesn't mean he can't pull it off. It would be surprising though. Has he done any dramas before?

I was going to say The Killing was decent but I realized that it only had one good season. The female cop was was pretty good though. She fits that profile to a tee.

I kinda like this casting. They're having a gamble with this, so either it will blow or flop. And I have a strong feeling it'll blow. Get Taylor Kitsch in there ffs.

Seems to me anyway, with the information here, that it will be very different from the first season anyway.
The continuity probably will be, it's a intense moody crime show which expores location, milieu etc; but since California is completely different to Louisiana they might accordingly also choose to go with a different style.

Having read the description of the female role I don't really see either of them being able to pull that character off exceptionally but McAdams is at least pretty

TBH I will watch trying to forget the 1st series, because the 1st series was simply the perfection and the rest can seem average / scrub if compared to 1st. Comparing to football, it is as when in 2010   I knew to have touched the maximum with the treble season and I could just worsen , also because Mourinho was gone away. Here same thing, I already miss Rust Cohle / Matthew McConaughey . At least I hope in a different decline  
I like Farrell though ( In Bruges ) , it was the better solution to "limit the loss"

HBO is announcing some more cast members for True Detective season two.

The network has finally officially confirmed that Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and Kelly Reilly (Black Box) have joined as female leads, along with Taylor Kitsch (Lone Survivor) in a major role.

Here are the official descriptions:

Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.

Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened.

Kelly Reilly as Jordan, Frank Semyon’s wife, a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions.

Previously confirmed cast:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Production has actually started on season two and HBO is aiming for a summer air date.
