I feel like no one read this in the first page so I'll posted again.

The show will use an Anthology series format. Basically meaning we won't be seeing Harrelson and McConaughey or any other cast member for that matter after this season. Which is a bummer
It's going to be kind of like America Horror Story, which also uses the Anthology format, where there is different story and a different set of characters each season.

xcx is a poverty troll.
I'm not too bothered, just means I likely won't be watching the second season. Unless they get an equally epic cast.

Casting is always excellent in HBO shows. I wouldn't worry too much.

It's not great news, but if the first season is successful, I am sure that a lot of good actors would be open to taking roles in season 2 especially considering these two guys have done season 1. Anyway I can't wait for this.

only just watched the trailers for this..I was hyped off of the cast and premise alone.
Mcconaughey is going to win an emmy to go along with his upcoming oscar
haven't been this hyped for a show since GoT

Re: True Detective || HBO
LOVED it, it was more of a character building episode than your action packed pilot. One thing that stood out though, the acting is absolutely out of this world for a TV Show and you can tell because these are two absolute beasts. McConaughey is playing his former and present self and they are completely two different personalities and he absolutely kills both of them. Same with Harrelson. The story ain't too shabby either, even leaves you with a slight cliffhanger at the end. They obviously focused on getting us caught up on the two main characters and what sort of case they will be facing.
Does merit the hype though

Re: True Detective || HBO
I'm sold after the first episode. Also Harrelson's wife Ā
I have some theories already on what's going on.
I also really love the setting.. Honestly, I would watch the show if it was just 60 minutes of Mcconaughey and Harrelson's characters conversing in the car. The dialogue is great.
I'm frustrated that this wasn't picked up by netflix though, I can tell it would be a show that could benefit from being watched ine one or two sittings like House of Cards.

And since I guess they are only theories we don't have to put spoilers or anything.
Mine is a weird one, I think McConaughey is the guy that killed the girl in 2012 that the two black detectives are investigating. I think that case in '95 touched him so hard (and his life was already falling apart then) that once they caught the perpetrator he slowly lost his mind and years later starts to copy the cereal killer.
Also I think the reason the relationship between Harrelson and McConaughey fell apart in 2002 was because Mcconaughey shagged Woody's hot wife.

Re: True Detective || HBO
I haven't thought too deeply about my theory yet so it doesn't make too much sense, but I think that it's something to do with that stuff about wanting to set up an anti christian unit or something, maybe to steal funding money or maybe church numbers were dwindling, It's traditionally deeply religious down in that region, maybe they caught some random screw up that nobody would care about to use and plant to make it look like someone was going around doing this.
I originally thought that it would be too obvious if Mcconaughey's character did any of this, I think that their relationship turned sour because Woody's character fell in line after they found out what was happening, and decided to cover it up (he shares the same values of the community as we saw, since he was raised there) while Mcconaughey was either against doing so or figured it out after he thought they had solved it and was forced to retire or threatened. They said he was off the grid all this time.
I think maybe Mcconaughey possibly did commit this new "murder" (I think it will end up being a dead body he just used) so that the old case would be re-investigated all these years later (possibly now the other guys are out of their positions of power) in the hopes of everyone being brought to justice, because it has been eating at him.

Holy shit
I went with the simplest explanation I could think of but your theory blows mine away. Could make a pretty good movie out of that

Re: True Detective || HBO
Great pilot episode. Really liked it. Watched it in one sitting. The acting was fantastic and the direction to cut it from 1995 to 2012 was brilliant. They really set the 95 scenes accordingly(that bar scene) and it looked a lot retro unlike in some movies where you can hardly tell the difference. The dark theme is engrossing. It has a very Luther-esque feeling about it. Specially being an 8 episode series.
Does anyone think that Harrelson is having an affair with that women who came to the office and he quickly led her in the room? I think Mcconaughey knew exactly what it was and maybe spill it out to Harrelson's wife and they hook up or something like McAgger said in one of those revenge/sympathy hook ups. Also notice that Harrelson isn't wearing a ring anymore. He is probably divorced.
Regarding the theories. The setting takes place in 1995 and in a town which is deeply religious. The murder has a lot to do with Satanism and Devil worshipping. That spaghetti monster that girl saw was one of the horned kings in Celtic Mythology. Mcconaughey is the only one who seems anti-christian in the Show so far.
1) He might have committed the original murder in 1995 to take revenge for his daughter's dead who could have died due to some religious thing and that pissed Mcconaughey off but that seems unlikely.
2) Mcconaughey might have committed that murder in 2012 but why after 17 years? That seems unlikely unless he wants to rustle some jimmies.
3) I think that reverend guy who is the kin to the governor is involved in the murder(1995)

Re: True Detective || HBO
Rust (Matthew Mcconaughey) isn't as much anti Christian as he is anti religious. The affair is 100% certain imo. Really doubt Rust is the one to commit any of the murders, it would really be waaaaaay to obvious. I believe it is Woody Harrelson who did it or something. It's probably who we least expect it to be.

Re: True Detective || HBO
Yea agreed. Maybe Harrelson was pissed off at McConaughey that it was him who ruined his marriage and all that. To take revenge he planted that murder(2012) and is trying to frame McConaughey without being obvious.
8 episodes though. How can they take up all that time for this? A lot of twists n turns coming up probably.

I watched a bit of it and then got bored, although I was tired at the time too. Just felt really slow and they weren't really discussing the actual case about the dead girl.
Will watch it later.
