Premier League - Chelsea vs Hull City
Chelsea's 2013/2014 season opener kicks off at home to Hull City on August 18th.
Hull players watch live as Leeds score against promotion chasing-Watford in the
last seconds of closing day to crush the Hornets' dreams and fire their
side to the Premier League
Hull were promoted to the Premier League last spring on the final day of a Championship season in which they finished an impressive 2nd, booking their first appearance in England's top flight since 2010. An opening fixture against one of the Premier League's heavyweights would have been the last thing manager Steve Bruce would have wanted, and they're sure to be in for a rough ride for the next 9 months as they go about trying to secure a Top 17 finish and reach the promised-land of Premier League survival.
Mourinho's debut
This match also marks José Mourinho's first competitive game since his much-touted return to Chelsea in June. He'll be eager to get off to a good start, and a opening-day fixture at home to a newly-promoted side will doubtless be viewed by the decorated Portuguese as the perfect opportunity to get off to the best start possible.
As one would expect, Chelsea are overwhelming favourites with the bookies. The Londoners haven't lost an opening day fixture in 15 years since a 2-1 away defeat to Coventry City in 1998, which, ironically, turned out to be one of the Blues' best league seasons ever, finishing just 4 points from top and booking a place in the Champions League for the first time in the club's history.
Spanish trio in doubt
An August 15th international friendly match between Ecuador and Spain in South America could rule out Fernando Torres, Juan Mata and Cesar Azpilicueta - who are expected to arrive back in London just a day before the season-opener kicks off - from contention.
Additionally, Sir Frank Lampard is an ongoing injury doubt for Chelsea, while the Tigers could be without midfielder Stephen Quinn, who sustained a hamstring injury in Hull's preseason friendly against Eintracht Braunschweig, of which Tigers manager Steve Bruce said, "It looks a bad one on first impressions so I wouldn't have thought he'll be fit for Chelsea. which is the big blow".
The match kicks off at 4:00pm BST

Luiz over Cahill, always.
Mikel normally has early season form so he gets the nod and Moses vs KDB could go either way.

Re: Premier League - Chelsea vs Hull City
I think preseason team selections as the season draws closer have seemed to show Mourinho is leaning towards a Gaz-JT partnership. Besides, Luiz will be off to Barca by then anyways

Hull City A.F.C. to change their name to 'Hull City Tigers':

Seriously? Does their owner think they're an American football team or something?

Chelsea sweat on injured duo as Lampard and Luiz face race to be fit for league opener:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2388234/Chelsea-sweat-injured-duo-Frank-Lampard-David-Luiz-season-opener.html
"Frank still has to train. He has to play against Roma. He played 45 minutes against Real Madrid on Wednesday, maybe he plays 60 minutes against Roma."
"He is in the England squad so it will be good if he plays a part against Scotland."
"But his pre-season has seen him train for a week and then stop for two weeks. He is coming back again, we are calm. We know the stages of recovery."
And on Luiz, Mourinho said: "If he does miss the start of the season, it’s only because of his injury. That’s why I’m not risking him."
"He’s had good sessions in DC with the fitness guys. The team with Luiz are a better team but we don’t risk players in preseason."
"David had an injury from before the Europa League final and still has little things with it, so we stopped."

Hull city tigers!
As for Luiz and Lamps, give them time, we don't need them for this game so rest them if needed.

Even fit they were unlikely to be starters. Hardly anything to panic about.

Re: Premier League - Chelsea vs Hull City
Exactly.
It's not like we need to rush them back, Cahill and Van Ginkel will be enough to do the job.

Victor Moses 'missing' as Mourinho ponders Chelsea line-up for Hull:
Chelsea will be without Victor Moses against Hull City – because Jose Mourinho doesn't know where he is

He's not a dog, pretty sure if Mourinho wanted to find Moses, he'd call him.

Mourinho confirmed the only injury is David Luiz. Azpi to be left out due to his long trip to Ecuador this week. Special Juan to undergo late fitness test.
