Morons on the Lithium forums were calling Ronaldo overpriced. Who remembers?
Apparently Arshavin was better and Kaka would outperform him.
Neymar shut everyone up last month and I'm sure Bale will do the same.

Off the top of my head Ozil and Messi both are one footed and i have barely seen any one questioning them just because they dont use the weak foot.

True bot Ozil, Messi and you can even throw in Robben..while one footed, can actually dribble and therefore it takes some level of team play to slow them down.
Bale can be stopped by simply playing deep as a team and allowing the space in the midfield. Doesnt always happen of course, every team has their own tactics which they may prefer to go with over completely changing the line..which dramatically changes how you want to play.
Sure, his dribbling just like Ronaldo, walcott (or any pace depending dribbler for that matters) becomes non existent once teams play deep. But i do think you are forgetting his best trait, dem long shots. I reckon i have seen countless long rangers this season from Bale when opposition allowed him space and time in the middle. At this point i think it is safe to say that teams will fear giving him time on the ball an space.
Yeah the long range odds are small but Bale is probably one of the best if not the best at it..i think i ll take those odds.
If im coach of the other team, im good with those long shots. When I seen Bale struggle, he couldnt use the threat of space in behind because the opponent is so deep and with a compact team it forced him to try and find space in between the lines, control, turn and then work space for one of those shots. Which just didnt work for him.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
See that might be the case if Bale were the focal point of the team but at Madrid he won't have to be. At least I think he won't find himself in situations where the other team is going to focus their defending on him.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
I thought about that Dani.
With Bale and Ronaldo, I ain't too worried about what's going on behind me. So I can drop pieces use pieces of midfield to cover the wide areas they start out from to negate the initial lateral stretching they do, or I can just drop the midfield into defence when defending them. Depends on the qualities on the midfielders, runners get to cover them out wide, guys who are strong in the air and good at blocking get to drop into defence and support fullbacks.
You could make an argument though that he's a good crosser, and Ronaldo could carry the defence away from him if he ran off the ball. Isco as well. There's definitely a sweet spot you could find cutting in if the two of them position themselves well and you make the right plays.
All in all, I think we'll be best with Ozil driving the ball. Everyone off him is a goal threat, and a different type of threat. You got Ronaldo as a threat in the box, Bale as a threat outside it on one side, Isco as a threat outside it on the other. It's just difficult to cover with Ozil himself and Ronaldo taking the defence one way, and Bale and Isco taking it the next. Spaces bound to open up, and Ozil is the guy I trust to find someone in space on the run.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
I dont think anyone is going to defend Bale differently because he plays with Cristiano, I always found that to be an overrated thing people talk about.
In the end, many teams wont defend with a low block and compact in La Liga, quite a few teams have a sense of pride (some may say stupidity) and play honestly. Those teams will get ripped apart by players with the physical tools of a Cristiano or a Bale.
All in all, I dont think anyone thinks Bale isnt a good player...or that he wont even do well. I quite sure he can do well and with quality passers like Ozil, Modric and Alonso when he returns, your transitions will remain fast and accurate and that of course plays into his style.
Only reason I commented at all was the talk regarding his one footedness in comparison to say Messi or Ozil. Those players, you cant just play deep against and take away space in behind, they have a multitude of skills, be it operating in tight spaces, a final pass and things like that...things, I dont think Bale has, right now.

Ozil's right foot is underrated, even by him. I've seen him pulling amazing passes with his right, but he seems to be afraid to use it constantly.

Fortunately we're not going to be playing counter-attacking football this year. Ancelotti wants to play possession.
But with Bale I'm not sure.

Even if your coach says "play possession"...when Alonso sees Cristiano in space with 40m to run into, you can beat your ass he is going to play that long pass to him.
And after Cristiano scores, Ancelotti wont complain.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
I don't see the point actively seeking out possession with Ronaldo and Bale. I like the idea of players who can keep the ball, move with it if necessary, but that doesn't necessitate possession football.
What's the point building up a move, only for it to be the same shot 90% of the time, blocked by 5 people instead of 2. That's pointless.
If we can do other things, be flexible , when teams try to park it or press us like Dortmund did, that's the ideal, but we don't have to try to go away from things we're good at just to fit some philosophical ideal.

Real Madrid offered €70m and Coentrao for Bale, according to Sky Italia.
Spurs rejected it and want Di Maria or Modric instead of Coentrao.

Well it's better if we offload Di Maria, he won't get much playing time with Ozil, Isco, Modric and Bale in there.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
This seeking possession shite again
Madrid will always have more possession than 90% of the teams they play. By possession they will keep the ball better because they have better payers than most of the teams they pay. In terms of the playing style, with Ronaldo there, no chance. Even Pellegrini had to subside and play to Ronaldo's strengths. With Bale added, LMFAO, 0% chance. Push the ball high up the field and try and get the ball them as quick as possible.

We'll usually have more possession, but there's a difference between that kind of possession and possession which is intended. The possession is more neater and more attractive when it's intended. The possession has improved since Ancelotti arrived.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
There are other factors for the inflated price which haven't been spoken about yet: 1) You won't ever have to worry about Bale getting tired from international duty because it's highly unlikely the Welsh national team is ever qualifying for the Euro's or World Cup; and 2) you will never have to sub out Bale due to his pace and gas tank. So you are essentially gaining a tactical advantage for your manager by playing him because he doesn't ever have to waste a sub on him baring injury.
I disagree, he is horrible with his right foot in terms of finishing. If Bale had a good right foot he would of scored over 40 goals last season in the EPL.
I watched every Spurs game last season, and the number of chances he missed with his right foot borders on the ridiculous. I wonder what his conversion percentage is by foot, I have a feeling with his left he has an elite conversion rate, but his overall number is probably dragged down by all his muffed chances with his right.
However, this is why I think the ceiling is so high for Bale because he is already a borderline world class player, and he still has room to improve which is hard to say for most players at his level. Neymar is as good as he's going to get, but Bale is hardly a finished product. You think he can't learn anything having a guy like Zidane helping him get better?
sportsczy wrote:That's not true at all anymore. I remember at least 7 or 8 of his goals being right footed last year and some of them from distance.
