Well, I can tell you that German media will care, too. Expect great headlines tomorrow and on MondayGil wrote:rwo power wrote:Not quite. Only football fans on Internet forums care about that.
The only trophies that hold any worth anymore are the CL and League titles.

Not really, both league games were draws last season and Bayern won the CL final in the final minutes.
People act like Bayern dominate Dortmund, its a load of rubbish tbh.
Today's game wasn't really any different in how the game panned out than any of recent Dortmund and Bayern games.
Even if the scoreline doesn't reflect that.

Hm. If he would win the sextuple with Bayern, he'd have won two of them with different teams ^^Albiceleste wrote:pep secretly sabotaging bayerns sextuple so his is still the only one in history

Gotta question Pep's decision to throw Dante in there as an auxiliary CF, it did absolutely nothing for Bayern.

Really surprised to see this result. Even if it was Bayern's B team.
Worth watching the highlights?

It was far from a B team lol and Dortmund were missing Mkhitaryan, Pizzacheque and Aubameyang was on the bench.
The only reason i mentioned it is because you can't expect Bayern to perform to best of their abilities when Javi, Dante, Ribery and Piggy were missing.
And yeah the game is worth watching, also bit confused why you are really surprised its not like Bayern usually rape them on a regular basis.

Re: German Supercup: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich
Great match. Ruined Bayerns sextuple chance, but considering Javi, Schweini, and Dante were on the bench, I think Pep just saw it as another preseason match to experiment. Dortmund also missed some players too though. But what a game. Bayern-Dortmund is always 10000000x better than El Classico.
On a side note though, Van Bitten should never again play an important game for Bayern. And Robben is giving Pep a real selection headache for when Gotze and Ribery are back.

Re: German Supercup: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich
One of the funniest things I've seen. The commentators are there logically breaking down why Pep is bringing on Dante, saying Dotmund are creating chances and what not. So he comes on and the guy is like...but WTF...he's playing CF....and almost immediately Bayern get raped on a counter.
Also, Thiago was pretty great for the 30 or so minutes I watched.

What is the use of so much resources (money n midfielders) if you are gonna cry about key players missing, go pls, knee jerk, but I am enjoying it

I assume this is aimed at me.... i wasn't crying i was just stating to the people that say this is hugely different to last years Bayern.
Of course it looks different the spine of that team was missing, there's been a massive overreaction to all this tbh.
It was the same as every other Bayern vs Dortmund game except this time Dortmund happened to take more of their chances and got a well deserved victory.
Can't wait to see Mkhitaryan in this team and hopefully see Reus and Aubameyang at the same time from the start.
Dat pace abuse

Re: German Supercup: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich
*sigh*
Conclusions cannot be surmised, assumed and judged from a SuperCup match as otherwise the Manhattan Project wouldn't even get past its first stage.
What the match was, is a high calibre face-off between two of the best teams in football, grounded in newborn ideas in the early crop of the season, exploiting experimental tactics which went beyond winning a cup that is a glorified friendly.
Klopp is in the midst of reworking his 4-2-3-1 Sacchi Counter-attack to adapt to the more central principles of his Italian mentor. The changes have been poorly timed, yet a precursor in to what he attempts to adapt to as he continually evolves his team in the absence of his former best player, Mario Götze. That subsequent adaptation is exactly how Sacchi timed his evolutions by a phase and implementation that has been popular in the mind of Kloppo. New points were how Aubamayang was used in the Theo Walcott fashion, 2010 v Barcelona in to use a false runner exploiting the lines while Lewandowski continued to drop deep, providing dual outlets to very pacy Reus and Aubamayeng. Kuba had his classic role, although sacrificed to provide a defensive outlet in the absence of PizzazCheckers and did an absolutely magnificent job. It was telling, by the ovation he got. World class winger.
Pep had an interesting use to have Lahm in a Dani Alves role to exploit pockets of space left by Dortmund's narrow counters, Kroos in a purely vertical distribution of the ball while the more defensive outlets kept their discipline and distributing to the fullbacks, yet it left Mandzukic isolated and out of channels to move into. Yet, that can also be attiributed to Robben's more free role in exploiting Mandzu's favourite pockets of space.
Match was very similar to Udo Lattek's Bayern v BMG, or Sacchi's Milan v Juventus in 91-92.
One thing is for sure, despite being allowed to see the blueprint of Guardiola's work, we will see varied implementations such as Ribery being utilized for his creativity while Goetze's role, despite what all you Tactical Genius' say, will only depend on the structure of Ribery's success, as two fuels cannot be combined into one.
Dante's role was actually intelligent, many times I have seen managers like Massimiliano Allegri to KPB, Bielsa and VDB to Javi, Ancelotti to Chantome, Conte to Padoin (depends and varies a lot), Hyppia to Lars Bender etc use them within as an auxilliary forward to provide a drop back of not only their back-line but their midfield while tracking back of the Aux-CF, will depend on the success of the fullbacks and their positionables.
As a whole, predictably sloppy match in tactical terms (given its pre-season usage) yet a highly entertaining game.
Special mention for Mats Hummels, since no one in particular stood out in Dortmund (except Kuba, Reus and MAYBE Guendogan, [despite the goal]) Mats was exception today. Kept the back neat and tidy, burst in perfectly timed runs to stimulate their counter-attacks like a Thai Massage Lady, and supported Subotic well, despite maybe to blame for letting Lahm's assist get through. World Class CB.
