Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
I understand alfred.Perhaps could have been brought on at HT against Levante. We were cruising but as you mentioned it was the first game.
Just want Bartra given games.Dont want it to be a repeat of last season where he was thrown in at the deep end versus Bayern.Besides Pique and Masch are going to burn out pretty quickly if they keep playing every game.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
I completely agree with that and your previous points.\
It is a bit worrying to not see him on the bench and hear Martino tell the press he didn't have any CBs in the bench because he can always use Busquets. With Puyol coming back soon I doubt Bartra will get any minutes before the Rayo match (3 from now, after Sevilla and Ajax)

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
I am enjoying the role Busquets plays, I thought maybe it was just co-incidence at first but I am seeing consistently now a more adventurous role.
I want to withhold overall opinion on Tata though, more time is obviously required. But I have very little to complain about.
The one thing I would of liked to see, was more Sergi Roberto. But again like Bartra, all the games have been difficult so its understandable.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
I don't think Tata will play Bartra or Sergi in his first season in charge. If he wins La Liga and has a good season in general, then he will become confident to play the youngsters, but not before he has proved himself to the club.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
I think he will, he had the balls to play JDS and Sergi even just for 10 minutes but against a Valencia side that looked like they were going to take away two points from us.
the group stages will be a test for him, I think he will rotate the squad more.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
- Spoiler:
- When Gerardo “Tata” Martino first took over at FC Barcelona he clearly mentioned that he would not be introducing drastic changes across the board when it came to Barça’s footballing style. However, that didn’t mean that he wouldn’t put his own stamp on how Barça functioned. What excited us most about Tata’s appointment was the introduction of verticality (or verticalidad) to our possession based game, as well as the return of the pressing game, which was sorely missing last season. In order to successfully incorporate these facets, the focus on fitness is paramount.
When it comes to improving fitness, Martino has made it clear that rotations will be the order of the day, and will be universal. Not even the previously untouchable Messi, will be spared, as was evident by his substitution in the 70th minute against Levante.
Martino took note of how the team reached the decisive stages of last season with key players like Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets injured and several others like Xavi fatigued. Consequently Tata and his coaching staff have made some modifications to the training sessions. They will last a little longer and will be more intense. The objective is for the players to gain strength so that performances do not falter in the business end of the season during the months of March, April and May. This will however be dependent on whether the team has a midweek match as the players will need substantial recovery periods after the intensive training sessions.
Another key improvement introduced by Martino and the physical trainer Elvio Paolorroso will be individualized training sessions for players. Once training with the group is completed, individual training sessions will take place to add extra workload to counter weaknesses in the player’s fitness. This will mainly be done for players who clock fewer first team minutes currently, so that they will be physically in top shape when called upon; though, the idea is to have such sessions for all the players over the duration of the season.
Overall, the signs for Martino’s initiatives are positive. He is analyzing Barça’s weaknesses and failings over the last two seasons and is working towards tackling them with his own unique methods.

"I talked to Tata Martino for an hour," Passarella told Ole. "It was a very nice chat and he said to me that in December Barcelona will need defenders.

Not related to football, but am I the only one who notices Martino seems to own just one jacket? Everytime he wore a jacket, it was this blue checked thing. I'm glad he is no Bielsa in that regard, but it is still kind of weird.

Martino's father has passed away. He will coach vs Ajax and then return to Rosario.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
So far martino's main contribution has been to make us play quite average and to erase most of what distinguis us from others teams. Watching barca is just like watching any random team, even Madrid, with our poorly elaborated game and very usual hoofing.
So far it's getting the results so I can't complain but usually we don't win big if we are not playing awesome.

In an online poll by Sport 81% of respondents believe that Barca has a different style than before. Interesting.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
It's easy to say that now after last season semi failure, but the comparisons should be made at the end of the season. So far, I can't be very excited because we are moving away from Cruyffism and I liked our stule and until this day it has been the only style that brought us success.Donuts wrote:one thing is forsure I much prefer Tata over Tito, with no disrespect to Tito.
But maybe we improve and we are successful. We will see.
Btw, none of my criticism has anything to do with Tata benching Pedro for a couple of games, I'm fine with that.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
At this time last season everyone was praising Tito, except for maybe Alex. But everyone else thought he was great, made Barca exciting again and enjoyed his more vertical style.

Re: Gerardo 'Tata' Martino
Not me.
I felt he did well to that point but I disagreed completely with the notion we played more vertical with him and I am fairly sure I said the big games are yet to come, which are a bigger test of his abilities.

Yeah, under tito we didn't play more vertical. That myth is long ago busted. Under Tata we definitely do.

Well if you watched the ajax game, there was one team that was clearly following Cruyffism and it wasn't us.alexjanosik wrote:free

We hoofed the ball from the back constantly (I read it was a record 38 times), we barely pressed or pressed awfully (we only recovered 5 balls in their field), we were counter attacking and disjointed with many players being more isolated than usually in attack, we still managed to have the most possession but marginally and vs a very poor team... etc.
