I'm concerned about Higuain. How long is it before Napoli establish some concrete interest in him, buying a top striker for half of what they'd just sold Cavani for. This brinkmanship Arsene is playing is nerve wracking.

Now i'm not so sure Wenger's to blame on this. This is the latest on the Higuain saga and if it's true then i wouldn't be so set on buying Higuain either:MJGunner wrote:I'm concerned about Higuain. http://www.caughtoffside.com/2013/07/15/real-madrid-tell-arsenal-to-fork-out-34m-for-gonzalo-higuain-as-la-liga-side-look-to-fund-gareth-bale-bid/
Real Madrid have raised the asking price for Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain to €40m (£34m) according to Spanish source El Confidencial.
The Spanish giants are apparently ready to sell the Argentine, not least because the 25 year old has publicly stated his intention to leave the Bernabeu, but are looking to garner as much as possible from the striker’s sale as re-elected president Florentino Perez attempts to generate funds ahead of a big money bid for Tottenham winger Gareth Bale.
Real Madrid have already spent big this summer, bringing in Spanish starlets Isco and Asier Illarramendi for a combined fee of over £50m as well as signing Daniel Carvajal and Casemiro for good measure and therefore it’s perhaps unsurprising that Perez is looking to sell big name players before he makes any more purchases.
Arsene Wenger may well be unwilling to continue his push to sign Higuain, believing that the La Liga side are stringing Arsenal along from one valuation to another and the Gunners boss may feel that a bid in excess of £30m for a player who hasn’t been a first choice starter at Real Madrid for three seasons is more than a tad excessive.
Of course there would be the possible side-benefit of such a bid in theory leading to Arsenal’s North London rivals losing their prized asset….
Arsenal are certainly on the look out for an attacking addition or two and the longer the transfer window is open the more desperate Wenger may become.
That said his Arsenal side opened their Asian pre-season tour with a thumping 7-0 win during which attackers Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski all found the net.
Can't really remember but i think Madrid wanted 25m, then 30m, and now 34m?
I really just want this saga to end.......

i just think sometimes wenger is stupid, what did he think was going to happen? his price would go down? just ridiculous, we should have tied up the deal when we had the chance, now if we want him we have to pay more because he's the only real top striker left along with suarez. the demand for him has risen.

So it's his fault Perez is a tool?
It seemed 23m was the set deal and then Real claimed to want more and more and now if this report is to be believed then he'll cost close to what we're bidding for Suarez which is ridiculous. We might as well put all our focus on Suarez. He's a Premier League star and it would piss Real Madrid off.

Suarez is going to cost over 50 though. 40 won't do it.

The issue here though is that Higuain wasn't as available as everyone thought he was. Reports suggested that Madrid wouldn't stand in the way of a sale and £23mil approx. would be enough, but those have either turned out to be wrong or Madrid did a u-turn. The player still wants to leave but Madrid have taken a firm stance in saying they want to keep him and demanding a bigger fee.
I'm just as frustrated as you are but I can't blame the manager for not being able to tie up a deal when the selling club is moving the goalposts at a whim.

rm wanted 30mil euro's, thats something like 25m pounds? we have money now supposedly? we should have paid that and got the deal done with. rm are NOT being arses, higuine is THEIR player and they value him at 25m. we have to meet those demands or gtfo.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
It looks like neither Higuain nor Arsenal *REALLY* want the move.
Arsenal refuse to pay more than what they value him and Higuain doesn't have the balls to ask for a transfer.
Unless something drastically changes (like Real Madrid sign a new striker or Higuain puts in a transfer request) this transfer will not happen.

wait didnt perez say he hasnt even received an offer from us yet? whatever the reports say, it doesnt matter, wenger is not meant to react to news reports. he is meant to contact rm directly and ask for higuine's price. If at the time the price was 23m or 25m, dont *bleep* about and ask for 21m, all that would do is piss rm off. just pay up and get it done with, thats what other clubs do ffs. LOOK how many top Big quality signings have been made by other clubs during this stupid higuine saga? we have the money now, SPEND IT.

we are not behaving like a club who has money, we are still behaving like a selling club. look at clubs like bayern and RM, im sure rm didn't value Asier Illarramendi at 35m, but they paid it anyway because they have the money and they wanted their player. likewise with bayern, i am sure they didn't value martinez at 40m, but they got him and are now treble winners. Arsenal are still behaving like some fodder club ffs.

Seems to me that Higuain wouldn't mind staying at Madrid. He either needs to come out and force this move or he will prob stay there

I agree, to me it looks like Wenger has a transfer list, is looking at multiple choices and trying to get the better deal instead of his first choice.
We have money now, our approach to transfers should change aswell.

Arsenal can do better than Higuain anyway and Wenger knows it.
This is a man that bought prime Anelka, Henry, Ade in his one great season and RVP.
Callejon has scored more CL goals....

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Our approach to transfers has changed in that we're offering larger sums of money for players we previously would not have seriously targeted because their selling prices were so high. But just having more money shouldn't mean we should try and get the best deal possible. Unlike clubs like Madrid and Bayern, we do still have limited resources.
If you believe reports, Suarez is Wenger's first choice and we're currently focusing on him. If he was actually looking for the better deal instead, he'd be focusing on Higuain, but he's not. He's bidding £30mil for the player he wants because he believes we have the finances to pull the move off. So should he just go an spend £50mil and be done with it? He could, but that would exhaust a large part of our budget and may force us to look at cheaper targets for other positions we need to strengthen.
If Arsenal spent that much on Suarez, they certainly wouldn't be able to spend £20+mil to get someone like Lars Bender or Fellaini in during the same summer.
We don't even know for sure what Madrid's asking price for Higuain is. They might ask for £35mil, but that could change if the player put in a transfer request. When a chance like that exists, what's the more sensible move: just paying up the £35mil or waiting to see how things develop and potentially getting the player for less?
In my mind, we should only pay what the selling club is demanding if there's no chance of negotiating a lower fee and if there are no cheaper targets that have thw quality we're looking for.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If the youth continue to play well we don’t even need to buy players?
I am learning to appreciate our squad, dont care about who comes in anymore. It was really nice to watch us play again and cant wait for the season start.
I dont want to hear no more rumors, what the media says can be as far away as the truth as you possibly cannot imagine.

Now that Cavani,Jovetic,Negredo etc all moved the remaining striker is Higuain and top teams will do a bidding war for him. Arsenal board refused to pay 30 mill for what now?

Tancredi Palmeri @tancredipalmeri
Higuain price requested by Real Madrid is 40m €, not 30m €, according to Sky Italy. Napoli have contacted the player, but no development
Liverpool should receive an offer from Real Madrid in the next days, for a swap Higuain+small cash for Suarez
Chelsea also have contacted Real Madrid for Higuain, according to Sky Italy

and if this happens we lose BOTH players in an instant, you see the risky game wenger is playing guys? i get what you are saying jay, but sometimes you have to pay over the odds to get the player you need. wheel a dealing for a smaller price has its costs you know.
