hmm

Still need a striker, DM and CB IMO seems a bit unnecessary.

A CB should a priority given vermaelan's mid-term absence. A DM is also a must. I wonder how many fans will be willing to sacrifice a marquee striker for the chance of bringing Cesc back, assuming we also sign bernard. With enough creative talent, a strike force of Theo, Poldi and Giroud maybe sufficient. I know our strikers did not finish a lot of chances, but last season we created fewer chances as well.

PS:
The way Giroud is playing what are the odds that man-city or some rich club buys him from us.

So Napoli has offered and Madrid has accepted 37 + 3 for Higuain. Higuain has given Arsenal 48 hours to match the offer. If Gunners match, he comes. If they don't, he goes to Napoli.

@abirking.  Arsenal are as rich as anyone.  The combined net worth of the owners is astounding and club has massive revenues.  The problem?  Cheap as all hell.  You can't complain about the marketplace for 10 years ffs.  At some point in time, you have to realize that the market is what it is.  You either play or you don't.  But to say that the marketplace is wrong is just stupid at this point... if it was wrong, it wouldn't keep going for 10 years now.

Arsenal remind me of Nintendo sometimes..... Laughing

Once were on top, their only competitors started to fall away so got over confident and then fell behind when new competitors came in with money and ambition later on refused to adapt.

Basically Arsenal are SD and Mario and clubs like Man City are Xbox Live and HD.

I was just being sarcastic about giroud and rich clubs (given to lose out form players to other rich clubs).  What confuses me is where in my post did I complain about the marketplace that you went on to write about it or were you referring to AW saying there is no player who is value for money???????????????????????

PS:
Nintendo did invest in Wii, like arsenal invested in the emirates. Both yet to show results (the Emirates is squeezing fans like hell for tickets though.)

Damn Suarez, if he kept his mouth shut we would have gone after realistic targets, we wasted most of our summer on him. Why did our board think Liverpool are like us? that a 25m+ will buy their best player?Laughing

I'm suspicious of that L'Equipe report since it actually gives a day for the medical. I've never known a report that's ever accurately stated or predicted when a medical will be. That, and the fact we've gone from just being interested to being close to wrapping up the transfer in a space of couple of days. I can't help but think there's been some jumping to conclusions.

It'd just be strange for us to spend £21mil on an winger/attacking midfielder when there're clearly other positions we need to strengthen first. We've got six players for the wings/attacking midfield so it's difficult to see where he fits in. It'd be wiser to spend that sort of money on a centre midfielder and defensive midfield to provide depth/competition for Arteta and Ramsey in my opinion.

Besides, we've got Zelalem. :coffee:

The big test was the worldwide recession... that is still going strong in Europe. If there was a bubble in the transfer market, it would have exploded in these conditions. It didn't. In fact, prices are rising again. To me, that means it's not a bubble at all.

I don't think Arsenal's wingers are consistent enough. Not convinced at all about Walcott and Ox. Podolski's more a left striker than a creative winger. I think what Wenger is looking for is someone who can be a creative force on the wing. Since the fullbacks can't cross, it's really needed imo. Arsenal already have Giroud and Podolski as scorers. I don't see that as big a need.

Question is, will Walcott suffer or Podolski? Both are strikers playing on the wing and one will be benched for good lol.

Also, assuming Cazorla plays AM, there are only 2 other mid spots. Wilshere, Ramsey and Arteta are fighting for 2 spots and i assume Arteta has one wrapped up.

The biggest need BY FAR is DM.

Swansea City are lining up a move for Mexican centre-half Hector Moreno, in case Ashely Williams does join Arsenal this summer according to the Daily Mirror.

The powerhouse is very high up on the shopping list of Arsene Wenger and all indications suggest we will make some kind of move to nail down his services.

And the Swans have made contact with Moreno’s Spanish club Espanyol about pushing the deal through this week.

Tough and talented, Moreno looks ideally equipped for the Premier League. The 25-year-old is a regular for Mexico and has won 46 caps, playing in the 2010 World Cup finals.

SMH.

Don't know why we aren't going for Toby Alderweireld. He is cheap, experienced and can play as emergency RB as well.

We can try to sign Sakho now that Marquinhos has signed for PSG.Or at least Zouma.

Is Arsenal willing to pay 20 mil for Sakho? That's the price. Zouma is not for sale until midseason. If ASSE are doing well, he'll stay until the end of the year. If not, he'll be available then.

Walcott scored 21 goals last season, so I think his spot in the team is safe. Chamberlain is 19 and isn't going to be thrown away because one of indifferent season. Ramsey's earned himself a starting spot in the side and has formed a very good partnership with Arteta which I don't foresee being broken.

Sure, Wilshere and Chamberlain are options for centre midfield, but they don't do that role nearly as well as Ramsey does. Wilshere will play mostly as an attacking midfielder in order to allow the Ramsey/Arteta partnership to continue and Cazorla will be on the LW as a result of that. Podolski will probably be the one to miss out.

Arsenal have made a cheeky bid for Manchester United playmaker Michael Carrick, according to reports on the Daily Star website.

Carrick had an impressive year last season and earned a lot of praise from boss Sir Alex Ferguson and many other managers, including our very own Arsene Wenger.

Wenger is a long-term admirer of midfielder Carrick, 31, and has tried to sign him twice before.

Wenger hoped the summer upheaval at Old Trafford and the fact Carrick has yet to open talks over a new contract would increase his chances of making it third time lucky.

The playmaker may be getting on in years, but he is playing some of the best stuff of his career and he could have been a very good addition to the midfield, as we need a bit of experience in the squad.

Why would he be Butthurt? he knows Cesc would never join you. The reason Wenger is not going after Cesc, he knows he will stay at Barcelona for another year.
