Were Barca ever after him? It seemed nothing more than lazy journalism.

I don't think we were officially after him but after the new coach people assumed he'd be a target.
August already came and were still without a defender.
new season starts in 2 and a half weeks.

With Madrid getting Bale,I would consider a cheeky bid for Di Maria.I am not convinced by Alexis or Pedro for the right wing.Both are average there.Di Maria is quality there.Can actually dribble,shoot,pass and works harder than Alexis and Pedro.He has been accused of being inconsistent and appearing lost but I think thats due to the tactical ineptitude of Mourinho.For us he could turn out to be a special player.

CB is a priority but doesnt look like we are getting one.Might as well get a forward for the right wing.And see if we can sell Alexis or Pedro for an exorbitant price.

All that I am reading about Cesc brings only one obvious continuously burning thought in my head. If any of this was anticipated it would have been so easy to retain Thiago. How hopelessly stupid and utterly incompetent can the people in charge possibly be?

As much as I have a hard on for Reus everytime I see him play, I wouldn't like to get him to replace Cesc but rather to replace one of Pedro/Alexis. If Cesc leaves, I would be ok with giving Sergi his minutes behind Iniesta. Xavi is the one that we don't have a solid back up for at the moment with Thiago gone, and next to the defense is an area that will likely need reinforcement in the next year or so. Sergi comes off as a better CAM, just like Cesc. JDS is not ready to be our Xavi back up. Thiago was perfect but now we really have no one for Xavi's back up at the moment. Gundogan is the player I think could be the guy, but I know the odds of us getting TWO Dortmund players are pretty low. So if we are going to get one Dortmund player, I'd rather it be Gundogan. Since next season we will have Deulofeu back to replace/compete with Pedro/Alexis for the right wing

Quick question - how do you guys feel about giving Rafinha the back up Xavi role? From what I've seen him play, he seems like more of a CAM/CF, but can he also play a holding midfield role? Cause if so, he could be the guy when he returns next season. We also have Denis Suarez who will be joining the first team next season

We have no other LBs or LWBs at the moment and Enrique is a bit inconsistent. Rodgers wants another LB/LWB to provide competition and cover for Enrique. Our main targets appear to be Cissokho and Melgarejo, with the latter seemingly more likely at the moment.

Sounds like horsecrap. Not even remotely similar.

Nah. He isnt that kind of player. He likes to attack the final third, he really is a forward, or at least an offensive midfielder.

This would imply that Cesc is a midfielder

Which is why we need one even now.

When/if he leaves we then have no choice numerically.

Any CB's that we are linked with? I hear that only Agger and Luiz are the two main properties ATM. Real shame we didn't get Vergini on a free... In honesty I don't we will get either Agger or Luiz... I don't the board will be willing to pay 40mil or over for him and Agger will simply not move at all. Our other targets Vertonghen, Kompany are just as unlikely. Koscielny, Sakho, Garay have not been linked with us for at least two months now if not longer...

This worries me allot. The club is going after unrealistic targets. And not only that, they STICK with on purssing these unrealistic targets and keep wasting time. It's pretty obvious Agger, and Thiago Silva arent coming here. I'd also be shocked if Mou sells us Luis when A) he doesnt like us and B) he doesn't have a ton of depth at the back either so he needs him. I can't see City selling there captain Kompany to us, especially this late in the window. They have no reason too. Levy is a bitch to work with and wouldn't sell us Vert.

previously i also thought this as a potential reason but after his recent comment i think it would not be a problem. It seems it is difficult to say whom Mou loves and whom he hates. Since leaving Madrid he praised barca team in different comments with the latest one where he mentioned he was the asistant of the biggest club (Barca) and biggest players (Ronaldo). Also he is now in dispute with every issue of his former club. So i doubt he would mind to strengthen our club ofcourse not at the cost of cutting his nose....

I would not be happy with Vermaelen. He is terrible.

Just be patient a little and Sakho will fall into your laps assuming you're willing to pay 20-25 mil. Alex has really become decent somehow (I think it's Silva who makes him look better than he is) and Marquinhos is into the squad in the next game.

I have a feeling Sakho will ask for a transfer.
