Women Euro 2013 in Sweden
I just finished watching the official opening match Sweden vs Denmark that ended 1:1. Really entertaining match with the Swedish ladies the favourites, but the Danish ladies being the big surprise with an energetic, robust game. Oh, and the Danish GK was great - she saved two penalties of the Swedish ladies - and I mean saved, these were no Ramos style misses
Tomorrow we can watch Germany vs Netherlands, Germany this time being the probably youngest German team due to necessity (6 of the regular starters are missing out due to injuries).

Re: Women Euro 2013 in Sweden
So, Iceland managed a little sensation by holding Norway (former 2-time European Champion) to a 1:1 draw. Kudos to Iceland's ladies! In the last Euro they went out with 0 points after the group stage and with opponents like Norway, Netherlands and Germany, many people expected the same to happen again.
In about 15 minutes, Germany vs Netherlands will kick off. Germany starts with 7 new players, but our captain is the legendary Nadine Angerer who managed to weather the whole 2007 World Cup without conceding a single goal.
Germany: Angerer (GK, C) - Maier, Krahn, Bartusiak, Cramer - Keßler, Goeßling - Lotzen, Marozsan, Mittag - Okoyino da Mbabi
Netherlands: Geurts (GK) - Bito, Koster (C), Hoogendijk, van den Heiligenberg - Slegers, Spitse - van de Ven, van de Donk, Martens - Melis

Germany are expected to win the 6th successive Euro this summer... Very important after getting kicked out of the World Cup in the QF last time.

Well, Germany hosted the last World Cup and got kicked out as reigning World Champions. I can imagine what the Swedes would go through XD
BTW, English media stay in character:
"England's women can go one step further and win at Euro 2013 in Sweden"

Sweden looked very good yesterday. They just need to practise penalties a bit more

they have a new coach in Pia Sundhage who used to coach USA before. honestly she has made sweden alot better now than they were before. As for the penalties I don't watch Lyon but I wouldn't be surprised if Lotta takes them there, I don't know what happened to her yesterday. Assaidi likewise who I believe plays for PSG

Re: Women Euro 2013 in Sweden
Well, I was kidding a bit. Lotta Schelin normally is a great striker.halamadrid2 wrote:they have a new coach in Pia Sundhage who used to coach USA before. honestly she has made sweden alot better now than they were before. HT Germany 0:0 Netherlands
Quite a sprightly match, it only lacks a goal or two.

Re: Women Euro 2013 in Sweden
No. Birgit Prinz retired last year
BTW, FT: Germany 0:0 Netherlands
This match was disappointing for Germany, and the Italian ref wasn't exactly favourable either. Ah well. Should have scored nonetheless, but didn't. Good job by the Netherlands.
Oh, and WotM: Nadine Angerer
