Isn't PES more about possession play?

That depends entirely on how you want to play.... but it is a lot more realistic in how you break teams down.

You can't go from midfield to one on one with the GK as easily and if you do it takes a lot of accuracy and precision.

You can't abuse pace nowhere near as much and its not as back to front as Fifa is, but pace is still a viable option if you have the right players.

I myself tend to press very high in packs and try to win the ball as high up the pitch as possible and attack extremely directly.

A lot like Dortmund.

Anyway this is based on PES 2013, 2014 sounds a totally different game by all the counts so we are all going to have wait until the demo arrives to judge for ourselves.

Speed merchant is apparantly overpowered.

Like on FIFA, Pace is by far the hardest thing to cope with. And every single other attribute feels like it's an accessory to pace.

I find that PES has somehow mastered the effectiveness of speed for players, or at least done a MUCH better job than FIFA.

I find Tello pretty much useless, you cant just abuse people with his speed...he is actually worse than he is in real life.

Having multidimensional players are a big plus.

I agree with that, but having said that i don't really play online and this is what people are complaining about.

I have only played one game online and found Ronaldo difficult to deal with but he's not just pace.

Having said that the bloke i was playing in that game only had 2 shots on goal, so he can't be that overpowered lol.

Good point, I dont play much online either. But I find on FIFA, the good ole' L1 and triangle ball over the top is so fatal, eventually it will work, online or not.

On PES, dont think its quite as prevalent.

Also part of it is I think even the CPU can keep the ball a whole lot better than on FIFA so wasting your touches on those same pass isnt good strategy... which is more like real football.

Yeah the through ball isn't nowhere near as effective.

For you to get the ball in behind the defence you need quite a few things to go in your favour.

Firstly the ball has to be perfect, in terms of weight and accuracy.

Secondly the run has be great and the defense more often than not has to make an error.

It can be done but its nowhere near as prevalent and when you do pull off a pass like that it makes you feel good because its a lot more challenging.

Well it does for me anyway lol.

Speed Merchant isn't pace, it just makes the player have "god-like" dribbling.

Yes, It's not. Konami doesn't want to make the same mistake that they did when they switched to current gen. I think its a smart move considering that GTA 5 will also not be released on next gen, I don't think people will stop using current gen consoles yet. Plus, Konami will have more time to prepare a great game for next gen.

There's some quotes from Jon Murphy on that actually and other things.... for those who don't know he's the PES Team Leader.

on the new engine: “It's the biggest change we've made in 10 years”. Also admits creating #PES2014 has been “exciting and nerve-racking”.

“We have a physics system in place now which allows us to have an almost endless amount of outcomes. There's totally new ball physics.

“We've ripped up where we were before and have started again”. By keeping “amazingly solid, satisfying gameplay”, the feel of PES can stay.

"Features such as PES ID, Player ID and Heart will help Konami to keep on creating “moments which you can only get from PES”.

On missing next-gen, “We couldn't do everything in one year. We could have produced a next-gen version of PES and ignored the current fans…

and brought out a lazy version.” Admits decision is a risk but says PES Team want to support “current fanbase with a great new engine”.

"next-gen step will be made when PES Team can “make use of new possibilities”. Just publishing a “prettier game” isn't good enough."

“We don't want to make the same mistakes as last time. We don't want to do this as a PR exercise. We don't want to kid people.”

Also IGN will be releasing gameplay footage from an interview they did earlier in the week.

Part 1 will be released tomorrow and Part 2 on Sunday.

Or that its on a completely new engine and they don't want to make a bad game on the new console?

They made this mistake going from PS2 to Xbox 360 before and never really recovered from it.

Its not easy making a brand new game on a brand new engine for two different consoles with two different levels of power and get everything to work right for everyone.

Also not everyone is going to buy a PS4 and Xbox One at launch, i'm certainly not and with the release of GTA 5 among other things there's plenty of reasons to stick around.

Don't be surprised if there's still 20-30 times more people playing on PS3s and 360s compared to PS4s and Xbox One's come the new year.

Also those loyal PES fans happen to be 10 million people world wide so yeah they kinda have to please them.

'A player makes a good pass and is motivated'.

'A player misses a chance and he'll be less motivated'.

How does that work? A player could be more motivated if he misses because he really wants to score.

I think this feature is too intricate.

I agree but that's the reason its not available online and you can turn it off if you wish offline.

Its a really hard thing to balance I imagine so until its perfect its best this way really good idea though.

As for the gameplay itself I really wish these developers would open up a bit more.

Would like to see what the shooting is like, dribbling, try some adventurous passes.

Really show us what the game can do they hold back too much for my liking.

Definitely like the sound of separation of the ball and player, depending on how they implement it of course. I also like that, during that video, you just can't be impatient and expect to be rewarded. With PES I always figure you need to concentrate 100% to get something out of a match, as opposed to FIFA where you can send in cheap balls/pace abuse for easy profit.

On thing I still don't like is that midfielders don't have as much time on the ball as I'd like. It seems like as soon as you get the ball in midfield you have to pass it as opposed to taking a few touches, opening up the play, dictating the pace etc. Although that depends on how/where CPU starts to press.

Also a couple of times I felt the player passes through the defender as if there is no physical contact. One of my gripes with PES 2013 as well. Surely the defender has some mass to collide with the attacker and not let the player with the ball glide through him?

Anyway, demo please (3-4 days, I reckon).

On not much time on the ball he was playing on the highest difficulty.

That might explain it, personally when I play on the highest difficulty I find it really difficult to break teams down.

Anyway yeah on to the demo Thumbs up
