Re: German Goalkeeper Appreciation Thread
Well, most young German GKs try to model their style after Manuel Neuer nowadays. BTW, Marvin Schwabe is currently the GK of Hoffenheim's U23 team.

Re: German Goalkeeper Appreciation Thread
Goal.com took a look at OPTA bemüht and listed the top 10 goalies in save percentage. Not bad!
1. Manuel Neuer (Bayern) - 89.19%
2. Morgan de Sanctis (Roma) - 82.98%
3. Yann Sommer (BMG) - 82.42%.
4. Mattia Perin (Genoa) - 81.25%
5. Gigi Buffon (Juve) - 80.65%
6. Claudio Bravo (Barca) - 80.56%
7. Stephane Ruffier (ASSE) - 80%.
8. Diego Alves (Valencia) - 79.59%
9. Jeroen Zoet (PSV) - 79.41%
10. Jaroslav Drobny (HSV) - 78.67%
Interestingly, no BLP keeper managed to get into the Top10

I'm afraid not. Neither is Basel's Germano Vailati. (The latter would at least qualify for the Swiss Goalkeeper Appreciation thread, though).

Re: German Goalkeeper Appreciation Thread
I'm really not amused that you have to ruin MAtS' chances for being the proper number 1 in all matches by jinxing him!
(Oh and I'm in a rather foul mood anyway as I currently have a tendovaginitis and my wrist is in a splint. And if anyone comments this with 'vagi', s/he will discover me sending an electrical charge through the net and frying them that way.)

What a fraudulent goalkeeper. Victor Valdes in young all over. Good with his feet, chit at everything else. Hope we sell him.

Re: German Goalkeeper Appreciation Thread
Timo Horn has the big advantage of being the undisputed starter with regular playing time. Of course he will look better due to the constant match practice.
You can't buy a young goalie, play him in only a handful of matches and then expect him to develop as well as one who is playing all the time.

Re: German Goalkeeper Appreciation Thread
gotta do what we did with De Gea
let him stick it out through the good and bad...De Gea was shambolic at coming for balls in the air when he first arrived, everyone questioned him but we left him out there each week to figure it out
now he is De GOAT

Re: German Goalkeeper Appreciation Thread
Leo Messi and the rest of the Barcelona dressing room are delighted with Marc-André Ter Stegen, particularly with his passing skills.
According to a story published in El País today titled 'Ter Stegen, or Zubizarreta's heir', Messi joked in a training session that the goalkeeper passes the ball better than him.
After a ball control exercise one of Messi's teammates said to him, "He passes it better than you", to which the Argentine replied, "Not better, much better."

He is still very young. I hope ter Stegen will improve over time as he becomes more experienced and confident in the field. But the question is will he get more opportunity to be a starter with regular playing time and will he continue to strive to reach his maximum potential?

I said the exact same during the U21 Euros (I think it was) in 2013(?). His crapness first caught my eye in 11/12 when he made several mistakes against Barca although I didn't put too much weight on it as he was very young and Leverkusen as a whole were pretty chit. But ever since I catch some of his games from time to time and he still looks chit.
German goalkeepers are overrated tbh.
