Psg wouldn't pass the FFP rules if applied correctly because they make a profit thanks to sponsors that don't pay a market value.

. actually they do now. Chevrolet or Ford is paying Man U 65 mil a year starting next year for sponsorship which makes a whole lot of things feasible suddenly. The shirt sponsorship deal PSG got is actually 4th or 5th at 25 mil a year, so no problems there.free_cat wrote:Psg wouldn't pass the FFP rules if applied correctly because they make a profit thanks to sponsors that don't pay a market value.
Sponsor look at eyes on a club. That's how they value how mich they're willing to pay. Since BeIN is pimping PSG worlwide, they can sell a lot of eyes to sponsors.
Everyone is barking up the wrong tree with PSG. They're solid.

Well, I'd like to see some news article on that one, because I really doubt neither of them have been given that kind of free ride on this.

It's impossible that PSG is making a profit considering that their net transfer expenditure in the last two seasons have been like 230 milion euros.
You said their wages is around 90 milion (seems very little with players like Ibra, Thiago Silva, Lavezzi, Pastore, Alex, etc). They probably have around 30 milion expenditure in other stuff + transfer fees amortitzations of around 250/5= 50 a year. So their expendtiure is around 170 milion.
Does PSG really make 170 milion euros a year? I doubt it and if they continue to sign like crazy every summer they will surely not pass the FFP.

Yes, that's what City did with Etihad sponsor.
FFP will be a mess because many teams wouldn't pass if applied strictly. We will see.

Re: AS Monaco superteam
Free... they average over 40k per game home and away the last 2 seasons. They passed Inter in merchandising sales to be in the top 10 according to reports (official numbers for this season come later obviously).
Since taking over, PSG has gone from about 101 mil in revenue in 2010/2011 to over 222 mil revenue in 2011/2012. It's expected to go even higher this year.
UEFA and LFP had 3 months subsequent to the submission of the audited financial statements to appeal its validity... they didn't. So it's been approved by both the French league and UEFA for the year 2011/2012. Once they approved one year and the the basis used for that year, it would be extremely difficult for them to contest a subsequent year if nothing has changed. The only changes? A sponsor deal of 100 mil per year hitting the books this year. We'll see if UEFA contests it once the financial figures are submitted.
As far as the wages, here's the source: http://www.sportune.fr/article/psg-salaires-des-joueurs-saison-2012-2013-72314/2

They will not contest that sponsor agreement now, they would do that when the avaluation of accounts starts, which will be after the end of next season.
100 milion is obviously not a market price sponsor for PSG and if they apply FFP strictly they shouldn't get away with it.

Problem there is that Man U got Chevrolet to sign a £357 sponsorship deal that pays them over £70 mil a season (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2277010/Manchester-United-players-arrive-work-Chevrolets-357m-sponsorship-deal.html). This deal right here makes €100 mil a year feasible, especially since BeIN is global and carries PSG and Ligue 1 everywhere.free_cat wrote:

UEFA just can't challenge PSG. Monaco is a different story unless they have some crazy marketing plan that nobody can dream about lol.

Re: AS Monaco superteam
You keep using the Man United comparison as something in PSG's favor, but thats not how it looks to me
If the biggest global brand of any team is getting 70 a year, and a team that wasn't even relevant on a global scale until 2 years ago is getting 100 a year, that doesn't pass a simple sniff test in my book
Edit: In the same vain, you mention that PSG just passed Inter in commercial revenue to make them top10....but Inter could never in a million years dream of a 100m a year sponsorship, so again that goes against the point you're trying to make

ManU earns 70 milion, 30 less than PSG. So there's 30 milion they can cut.
But as Bhends says, PSG is not even half the brand ManU is that's why even 70 milion a year is not a market price for a PSG sponsor and they should correct that amount if they apply the FFP rules strictly.

Re: AS Monaco superteam
£70 mil = €82 mil euros. And Man U does not have the distribution network of BeIN despite being a bigger brand. Again, sponsors look for eyeballs to see their name and what kind of eyeballs... second, they look for marketability in terms of superstars and/or club brand. PSG has superstars in abundance and are getting more. And they've agreed with Beckham that he is going to be the ambassador for the club and Qatar once he takes a short break.
It's a package. The value has nothing to do with football tradition but current and future marketability.

Re: AS Monaco superteam
You're WAAAY overrating the impact of BeIN bro
"Man U does not have the distribution network" ....Uhhh what? EPL is the most watched league in the world dude, I have no idea what you're on about here....where do you think all those rabid EPL fans in the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and China came from man? Hint: It wasn't magic
Man U and PSG aren't even on the same playing field in terms of "eyeballs" you're talking nonsense when you try to compare them there...even with BeIN
When PSG starts getting this kind of support:
Then we can talk about comparing United and PSG in terms of "eyeballs"...but until then, its just fantasy on your part dude

Re: AS Monaco superteam
Sorry, but BeIN and Al Jazeera (BeIn is an affiliate of Al Jazeera) are everywhere almost. EPL is the most watched... but that's a league. You're not getting one team being pimped or act as the lead dog in every promo and commercial.
Of course PSG is not as big a club in terms of fan support or footy recognition... not even close. But will just as many people get to see PSG? yes. Is the marketing machine behind Qatar and PSG more powerful than Man U? yes. With the WC coming in Qatar in 10 years, will the marketing continue to grow and become bigger and bigger? Without a doubt. That's what sponsors look at when making big long term investments. They figure that the value of the brand will only increase and likely exponentially.
Besides, all PSG has to do is show that they have a reasonable argument for the sponsorship deals, which they easily do now. The burden of contesting it successfully is on UEFA.

United is the flagship club of the most watched league, and they get the most TV games. PSG is in exactly the same situation except the viewership of their league is way lower...Or did I miss the part where BeIN's rights were solely for PSG instead of Ligue 1 as a whole? (Lets not mention that BeIN also owns Serie A and La Liga rights in U.S)
Edit: Also source on Al-Jazeera being "everywhere" AFAIK, they are available in the U.S (tiny viewership), Middle East, and parts of Europe, gonna need a source for their coverage in Africa, East Asia, and South America...
EPL is global, Al-Jazeera is not (for now, at least)

No

You really think PSG has a shot of surpassing the brand of United or Barca/Madrid/Bayern?
You're out of your mind.

True

Arguable, or have you not noticed that you seem to be the only person on the forum who is absolutely convinced they are going to skate past FFP?
I have no idea whether they will pass FFP or not, but you making them out to be some sort of juggernaut in the footballing world is just bull dude
I can't even believe were having this discussion, you're talking like BeIN is going to propel PSG to the top of the footballing world when there isn't any evidence to suggest that yet

Re: AS Monaco superteam
I'm not saying BeIN/Al Jazeera propels them anywhere... I'm saying it gives them a plausible argument that it will. It's one thing to say this, that and the other. It's another to have the distribution platform in place. The toughest part of getting your product seen is getting distribution. Doesn't mean people will like or buy it... but they will see it. That's what PSG is selling to pretty much everyone, including the star players, not just the sponsors.
UEFA is going to have an awfully tough time in the near future showing that PSG won't be seen. In 3-4 years, when data comes in... then UEFA would have an argument if the actual data doesn't support the argument in terms of getting the sponsorship. But right now, there's nothing for UEFA to use to contradict what PSG is putting out there.

It's 70 mil lol. 45 for Rodriguez and 25 for Moutinho.
Moutinho plays CAM, Ocampos on the left and Rodriguez on the right. Falcao as the CF apparently. Now that's potent.
Of course, they still need a keeper, a RB, a CB and a DM.
