This game looks absolutely ridiculous

Just when I thought they couldn't take it much further than SR3 in terms of ridiculousness... they went WAY beyond.

I'm gunna play this, I just wish it was coming out earlier in the summer, instead of a month before GTA.

Just picked this up along with Splinter Cell to hold me over until GTA

After seeing GTA though, it's of course not going to compare(after SR2 they went different directions anyway). But I'm sure it'll be good for some mindless fun.

The only similarity it has to GTA, is that it's a Sandbox-type of game. I had no previous experience with the Saints Row games, but I decided to purchase the recently released bundle with Saints Row IV (all DLC included) + the stand-alone game, Gat out of Hell. I was really positively surprised.

The first thing I noticed was that they both look kind of awful, graphically. I thought they were PS2 ports, or something, but nope.. IV was released in late 2013, and Gat out of Hell was released only a few days ago. But I can't think of another game I've played in recent time, that offers so much mindless fun and ridiculousness.

I've been scooting around on an armchair with in-built machine guns and rocket launchers triggered by the recliner, I've been intentionally throwing myself onto cars in the torture fraud missions, blown up people with a frosting gun, summoned a purple titan to wreck havoc while I'm figuring out which ones out of all of the awesome guns and powers to use.

Saints Row is a lot of fun. The concept behind it may not be very original, as it clearly has similarities to Infamous and GTA, but they clearly added a creative touch to the various game modes, weapons and abilities in their games, and it left me wondering why I've never played any of these games before. The humor can be really cheesy sometimes, but I thought some of it was funny. Overall, it's definitely worth the reduced price it's being sold for, at the moment.

Don't expect anything in these games to make sense, because they don't. I recently struggled to beat a mission in Gat out of Hell, where your main goal as a "husk" in hell, is to throw yourself onto incoming traffic, in order to speed up your torture sentence and meet your wife in heaven. In Saints Row IV, you're the president of the United States, and your staff consists of a bunch of former gang members who drink and smoke weed inside of the white house. To make things even more ridiculous, you can make the president (yourself) look like a fat hobo with warts and gang signs in his/her face, or choose from a ton of other customizable options.

I think the main reason why people keep comparing it to GTA is because you can steal cars in both games.. and the cops will chase you like horny gorillas if you piss them off enough.

The 1st two Saints Row were similar to GTA actually, it's gang related and I thought the story was better than couple of 1st GTA games. Only from SR3 they went nuts with super power, super hero idea since they got sick of being compared to GTA.

I love 3, kinda 4 but I thought the gimmick is running out of steam, it's fun game for sure but this super power, completely over the top, geeky reference galore & satire got me tired half way 4th game. I just don't know how could they go from here, I just wish they're more grounded next game. If it's just DLC like Blood Dragon (FC3), that's fine but the whole series

Thing is they could never hope to compete with GTA so all they can offer at this point is insane, over the top stuff or risk being in a market 100% dominated by GTA

The DLC, Dominatrix mission for Saints Row 4 must be the most random thing I've ever witnessed in a game. I just went from killing a boss who turned out to not be the real boss, to clubbing around people in a sex club with a "dildo bat" in a quest to find a Dominatrix boss, and then I suddenly got thrown into a race where I was riding on a carriage that was pulled by a guy wearing an S&M outfit. The mission basically turned every cop/alien into S&M-inspired people, and all vehicles.. and even balloons into penises. It really makes you wonder what kind of person came up with this stuff
