Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
Winning Ligue 1 and getting to CL quarters is a very good season. City owners would give their first born children if they could get good CL results. It's a good season however you look at it.
Players don't really get excited about cup play... especially the big stars. It's always a problem. That's why you have a lot of random winners in France and other countries ever year. I mean Man U hasn't won a FA cup since 2003-2004. In Spain, Madrid's CDR win last year was its first one since 1993. Most clubs that win league titles just tank the cup usually... you have the guys who are behind for the league title that concentrate on the cup as a consolation prize.

Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
Yeah they had a solid season but nothing special which is what i'm saying. They didn't win Ligue 1 last season which is when plenty of big names arrived. And Ligue 1 is only the 5th best league in Europe.
This season they won it, with a few minor bumps along the way. The only area that they really excelled in based on the team they have is in the CL. I expected them to get as far as the last 16 but no more. Then again it's all on the luck of the draw.
Juventus got just as far in Europe as PsG and even though we've spent heavily in the past, the new signings that have helped us win so much so quickly have been:
Bazagli 0.3M Euros
Vidal 10M Euros
Licht 8-10M Euros
Vucinic 17M Euros
Asamoah 9M Euros
Pirlo FREE
Then PsG
Ibra 14M Euros with an extremely high wage
T. silva 42M Euros
Lucas 40M euros
Lavezzi roughly 30M Euros I believe
Pastore 40M Euros
and quite a few more who I won't list because I can't remember the prices. But they weren't cheap.
so you see I don't care how much respect people are giving Juventus, it's just a good example because in the same 2 years of PsG spending heavily, Juve rebuilt themselves. We've won the league undefeated and have nearly wrapped up a 2nd league title, and we've equalled PsG's CL campaign in terms of how far we've gotten.
This is why I'm not buying into the whole 'PsG are doing brilliant with what they have' because you compare them to a club who have spent much less in Juventus and Juventus have done better in a tougher domestic league and equally as well in Europe.

Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
Leonardo: PSG not interested in Cavani
There had been reports that the Ligue 1 leaders had agreed a deal for the Napoli star but the Brazilian has moved to dismiss such speculation
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has ruled out a move for Edinson Cavani and insisted that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will remain at Parc des Princes.
The Ligue 1 leaders are one of several sides to have been linked with a summer bid for the Napoli forward, who has refused to commit himself to the Partenopei beyond the end of the season.
However, Leonardo is adamant that there will be no approach from PSG for Cavani, this season's top scorer in Serie A.
"The Uruguayan is not our goal this summer," the Brazilian told Sky Sport Italia. "You should not expect a sensational transfer market [from PSG] because we already have champions."
Leonardo, who has been linked with a return to Inter of late, was just as definitive when it came to discussing his own future in the French capital, as well as the possible departures of Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
"I will stay in Paris next year in the same way as Ibrahimovic and Lavezzi," the former AC Milan star added.
"I have a good relationship with [Inter president Massimo] Moratti, but I don't have the intention of returning to Italy.
"If there are many teams interested in them [Ibrahimovic and Lavezzi], it just means that we had a good transfer market last summer!"
Leonardo added that Carlo Ancelotti will only leave the club if he wants to.
"We want him to stay, but his future is in his own hands," he revealed.
PSG are currently nine points clear at the summit of Ligue 1 with just five rounds remaining.
____________
Didn't really think the transfer made any sense. Now confirmed. PSG need a Poacher, not someone that will step into Ibra's shoes.

What PSG are doing right now isn't really impressive/brilliant. It's expected of them to win Ligue 1.
However if they had won the CL this season, then it would have been impressive.

Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
Irrespective of the quality of the players mentioned, market value plays a huge role in determining the price of players.
Thiago Silva- Touted as the best defender in the universe and rightly so. So price justified
Ibra- Well, because he is Ibra
As for the others, it comes down to the competition involved for the players and PSG don't have the pedigree of other european elites, so it is obvious that they had to pay such a huge sum to beat the others/

Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
Yeah i'm not arguing about the prices they paid, but the fact is that they CAN pay these out of the world prices and of course it's going to help you compete with the best clubs.
And what I've been saying is despite all the credit they're getting, they've done nothing out of the ordinary considering they have such an amazing team. I feel the credit they're getting is far too high. People underestimate the power of money in Football, whereas in the early Abramovich days people were probably overestimating it a little bit.

Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
You are ignoring Juve's transfers in 2009-2010 for example, when 25 mil was spent on Felipe Melo and 30 mil in Diego. Amauri was bought the season before for 20+ mil too lol.
And everyone knows that transfer prices from 3 years ago are probably 2x now.
It's not enough to spend money... you need to spend it well. And also, when your annual wages are 30 mil a year less than Juve's for example. That means you have 30 mil more to spend on transfers.
What PSG does so well is that they only splash the big wage on proven players like Ibra and Silva. Other than those 2, nobody makes 5 mil a year. In fact, Pastore makes 3 mil and Lucas makes 3 mil as well.

Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
No I know that we've overspent. But you're talking about players that had no part in out current success. I'm comparing the Juve team over the last 2 seasons to the PsG team of the last 2 seasons. And we've done slightly better by spending much less.
The idiots who sanctioned the Amauri type deals are long gone and so were the players when we rejuvinated our squad.
I'll agree that PsG have spent well, but they're also spent hundreds of Millions. A luxury which very few clubs have.
Yet they get plenty of credit for winning Ligue 1 where the other big teams are forced to sell players to keep themselves financially stable and getting into the last 8 of the CL where out of all 8 teams, PsG had a more valuable squad than Juventus, Malaga, Dortmund and Gala so again, it was a good achievement but nobodies going to look at a squad like PsG's and be amazed they got into the last 8.

Re: PSG agree Cavani deal
That's too much money. I'd say he's better than Falcao by a small margin. He scores incredible goals and a lot of them in Serie A. In Ligue 1 he would be insane. His value will sky rocket. That's too much money though.
I would only pay that potentially for Ibra. He guarantees titles and is a true force to be reckoned with.
Cavani stuck with Napoli for a while but they aren't going anywhere, they don't have the financial means to compete on the level that Cavani deserves to compete on. Ligue 1 isn't as good as Serie A , but the PSG project is admirable and I'd say, a lot more interesting than Man City's.

Is this confirmed? I don't see this happening. Don't think Ibra and Cavani are a good fit.
