I'm just annoyed by the fact that people always ridiculously claim he's overlooked because he plays on Barca and would be considered the best player in the World elsewhere when that couldn't be further from the truth.

People need to drop the underrated/overrated term as merely depends on who you ask. At the end of the day all players are fall into one of those categories because different people have different opinions on players. Do some people overrate Iniesta? Sure, however that does not mean that some people don't underrate him and that others rate him just fine.

When you say "posters here", are you referring to a majority of them, or just a handful of them? Feel free to respond once you have gotten up from the floor and concluded your laughing.

This is a terrific example of nitpicking.

The first two threads were by Khaled, God bless his soul, I'm sure he is a alright guy but he can write some crazy stuff. The third thread is from a Guest so I have no idea who that is.

Basically, all three threads were reactionary threads. Made after some event. Iniesta is as world class as they come and while Gil in his infinite wisdom has a point in this forum jumping the gun, ranking every God damn thing and overreaction, he probably more than appreciates Iniesta for what player he is.

So why is Cristiano Ronaldo better than Iniesta or why is it laughable to think that Iniesta is close to C.Ronaldo? Because he scores more goals? That's probably the only reason why people thinks that..

No but as a footballer maybe. Ask yourself this which contributes more to the team, 50 goals a season or a consistent performances from a midfielder. Invidiual attributes aside.

Zidane is generally regarded as a better player than the real Ronaldo, even though Zidane didn't average that much more goals and assist than Iniesta does. Heck, I belive that this season Iniesta has had more assist than Zidane ever managed to get in a season.

Or if we use that logic, then Lampard is obviously a much, much, MUCH superior player than Zidane cause he scores ALOT more..

Goals always seem to be the the most important thing when comparing players. It's just one of those things that shouldn't make sense when comparing a midfielder with a forward, however it unfortunately kinda does make sense.

The reason I guess it makes sense is because scoring goals is the most popular/important thing in football. Being creative isn't valued as much as scoring goals.

Without Ronaldo's goals, Iniesta's the better player.

Then what about Lampard not being rated higher than Zidane, even though he scores more goals(and has more assist as well IIRC) than Zidane?

maybe because Zidane was more reknown throughout the world than Lampard? Lampard is known more of a goalscorer for Chelsea just like Cesc is as an forward instead of a midfielder.

That has nothing to do with it. Even the experts and former players, who know both of them, say that Zidane is the superior player even though Lampard scores and assist more.

Basically.

The only things that Ronaldo is better at than Iniesta, that isn't based on him scoring a goal, is his speed and strength. Everything else is based on him scoring a goal(freekicks, headers and shooting) while Iniesta is a better passer, better dribbler, better first touch, better balance, can dictate a game, better defender(Iniesta is one of the players that intercept the ball the most in Barca)etc

How exactly do you think forwards receive the ball?

Goals may win you games, but football is the ultimate team sport and forwards rely on midfielders to get the ball to them. Same way team rely on a competent defense - just look at Barcelona this year: their inability to keep clean sheets has made life very difficult for them.

I'm sure it has been mentioned before, but Ronaldo is the type of players who likes to shoot and often, do you really think that would be possible if he did not have midfielders to get him the ball? No shots, no goals, so you should understand that you can not have one without the other.

One could argue that it is more difficult to take the ball from Iniesta - brute strength only counts if you know how to apply/use it properly. I would argue that body positioning and ball control will benefit you more often on the pitch.

are we really here comparing Christiano Ronaldo, and Andres Iniesta with goals... and people trying to say that makes sense but then when we bring up their precious Zidane's stats compared to someone like Lampard, it doesn't apply anymore??
