But has Pique been as consistent and vital for the defence as Inigo and Laporte have? Has he typified defences under pressure (unlike Barcas) and not put one foot wrong? He has been excellent yet that doesn't grant him superiority to both of them this season.

Cicinho is highly overrated and hasn't held a candle to what Martinez has done this season as most on this forum will attest to that.

Godin's performances have been overstated. For every perfect performance he has had one which has been atrocious especially during Atletico's drop in form where he was held responsible in several key moments.

Sissokho? Really? Enough to be on this list?

Isco has garnered praise yet has been stop-start and hasn't influenced games on a consistent basis like Preito and nowhere near it. I'm a huge fan of Isco yet he cannot be on the team of the season.

Only Luis is a valid shout as he genuinely has been excellent as I would have put him for his performances last year but not compared to Damia who is possessed this year.
