The Official 2013 South American U-17 Championship Empty The Official 2013 South American U-17 Championship

Post by Catracho Sat Mar 30, 2013 5:32 am

This is only the 15th CONMEBOL U-17 Championship, and its going to be held in no other than, Argentina, whom also just finished holding the CONMEBOL U-20 Championships. Theres two group of five, in which the top three teams of both groups progress to play a Final Stage, where only then the teams who finish in the top four places earn their birth to the 2013 UAE U-17 World Cup.

The first game kicks-off next week, April 2nd, in San Luis and runs till the end of the month, April 28th.

Squads haven't really been released yet, but should be before the tournament kicks-off: U-17 Squad Lists

Here's to hoping Argentina and Brazil don't pull the same embarrassing stunts pulled earlier this year in the U-20 Championships. Both teams regardless should be favorites again here in the U-17 Championships, with Brazil being clear favorites.. as the foundation of their current U-17 squad is built around their U-15 squad from two years ago that absolutely dominated the competition at the U-15 South American Championships.

btw some names to look out for in the Brazilian team... Robert Kenedy aka Kenedy, a very talented forward for Fluminense, whose been on the tip of every Inter Milan's coaches name. He's a kid they've been poised to sign ever since he turned in a nice performance against them in the Al Kass Cup.

Then theres Mosquito of Atletico Paranaense whose set youth records at Vasco Da Gama and was crowned with the Golden Boot at the U-15 South American Championships. All the big teams around the world are monitoring his progress closely.

Caio Rangel of Flamengo is the name thats been ringing the most in Rio. A kid whose won the highest praises from Zico to Ronaldinho. A player with very smooth ball control and possess a very nice touch. A lot of coaches at Flamengo feel he's going to be the next promising star out of their youth ranks.

One player whose on the rise, is Sao Paulo's Gabriel Boschilia. I haven't seen much of his game, but from what I understand he's suppose to be next in line at Sao Paulo to blossom into a promising player like Piazon and Lucas Moura. He was a fundamental player at the recent Future Cup in Brazil for Sao Paulo after scoring in the finals, and will now pit his skill against the likes of players from Barcelona, Ajax, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Anderlecht, and Toronto FC. He was originally a Guarani youth product.

btw Brazil just beat Portugals U-17 team 2-0 yesterday afternoon.

Well then... Ecuador open up their U-17 campaign by downing hosts, Argentina, by a score of 2-0. Oh boy.. Ecuadorian goalie with a huge game saving everything that came his way.

Colombia came into this U-17 tournament hyped as a potential golden generation, among the team is Chelsea's recent signing, Joao Leandro Rodríguez. The 5'11, 16 yr old forward is being pipped up as their next wonder froward after notching 25 goals in 35 games for his respective nation's youth sides.

Colombia opened up the tournament against Paraguay, in which ended in a 1-1 draw. A fair result for a game which was free flowing and pacy.

Matchday 3 is in the books, and Venezuela kicked it off with a 1-0 win over rivals, Ecuador, thanks in part to a blunder by the Ecuadoran goalie:

Very weak game.. Chile draw 1-1 in their second game to a poor Bolivia side who were unlucky to score again:

Great game.. back and forth action sometimes, but mostly dominated by Brazil, especially in the second half, sadly game ended 1-1.

Great game from what I've seen from those highlights. Brazil seemed very unlucky if you ask me but anyway who is the Brazilian in the #10 jersey?

Although he didn't score or hit the target in any of the shots I saw, he seems to know how to shoot the ball very well and was close on the occasions I saw. Also very unlucky with his freekick hitting the bar after the keeper was already beaten .

Indio of Vasco da Gama. A very dynamic and wiry player in their youth team,

Uruguay scored on the first minute of the game, just for Chile to equalize it later in the first half 1-1.. and that would be as much as the scoreline would go as both teams drew in their third game of the tournament:

Classless Chileans and a very VERY VERRYYY sketchy referee who had no business reffing this game, undeservedly awarded Chile a 1-1 draw against a very superior Peruvian side.. omg.. WOW, this ref needs to be banned from all games. terrible.
