Only as a last resort probably.
If there was no other way of keeping the ball out.

Yes, obviously.
Anyone who criticized him, I really dont understand.
He did what he had to do, he got the red. He knew perfectly well what it meant.
Its not "cheating" or whatever, he broke a rule and got the correct punishment...thats it.
What happened after was unlucky for Ghana, but they had their chance, the rules are they got a pen....and Gyan missed.

Re: would you do it
I do this sometimes when me and the guys play a game for fun
I have no doubt in my mind that I'd do it in a World Cup quarter final.

I get what you're saying but it's still cheating imo. Whether he gets punished is irrelevant to the fact that he knowingly broke a rule to prevent the other team from scoring what would have been the winning goal. That's the very definition of cheating for me, having said that I don't hold it against him and I would have done the same.

Oh, you mean the Suarez "hand of god" play. Not sure I would do the same, at least not on "purpose". I understand why he did it though...

Well it was a knockout round anyway, if you didn't save it, you'd probably lose anyway.Pedram wrote:I would do the same but tbh if i get sent off and the guy scores the penalty i'd feel like shit.

Re: would you do it
I remember a situation similar to this happened in a high school regular season game and it was clear to my that my teammate stopped the ball because it was an involuntary reaction. There is no time to think of right and wrong in such a big moment (even in a minuscule high school game) - you see the ball about to enter your goal and human instinct takes over.
I believe that under those circumstances, I would have made the same decision. As Dani said, it is up to Gyan to make that penalty.

Thats not my definition of cheating really. Is fouling in the box cheating? Its the same result.
I dont even thinking cheating exists in football in that way. I considering cheating to be throwing games and stuff like that.

Re: would you do it
He did it spontaneously, like a reflex . Most of us would have done the same thing but still i would never forgive him that and the truth is even if i was supporting Uruguay i'd have been happy but not overly happy .
I fully understand people who can't stand Suarez anymore because of that.
he isn't the evil ..... but still i'm still mad

Re: would you do it
My first instinct would be to try to head the ball, even if it did not work. The thought of cheating to keep it out, whether I would consider it a good idea or not, would probably not cross my mind in the short period of time between when the shot was fired to when it got to me. Either he consciously thought to himself that he was going to stop it with his hand if the ball came near him, or it was just a reflex he had little control over IMO; he didn't really have time to weigh the pros and cons as it was flying towards him.
