But at times, there is no one to pass to, so why would he be making a pass?

Common? Who else has done this, ever? By accident yes, but on purpose?

Re: Pele's unique trick
I see Dani, you like to go on 4DFoot every now and then . Great website
OT- Looking at 0:09 and 0:33, certainly makes the move look intentional, though I think doing that trick will be quite hard to do nowadays. It is brilliant though and it does not seem as simple as it does on that video.

Re: Pele's unique trick
I think it's pretty cool but it's unnecessary, risky, and relatively ineffective (or it seems) to me. For these reasons I consider it a bad move tbh
Still badass though.

How do you know when the picture covers like two players at time? Almost every play you could see team mate in the direction of the pass. The Franchise wrote:Albiceleste wrote:looks like bad passes to me

Messi made similar one two in UCL final.

Re: Pele's unique trick
Its just seems so when you consider the distance, the situation and his position on the pitch. Like the one on :17, I would be very surprised if he was trying to pass in that situation.
Messi? When? I didnt see it, only by accident perhaps which is what this could be...but I doubt it when it happens this often in a way which seems so intentional.

Re: Pele's unique trick
How many times did he do this and the ball was lost?

Re: Pele's unique trick
This trick is really no different than any other trick when the applying that question, Elvindo. Any trick/skill move has a risk of losing the ball and that is why I have never been a player who opts to apply much flair/fanciness to my game.
It is the element of surprise which makes this trick special - how many players have used this move on a consistent basis. How many defenders have dealt with a player purposely kicking the ball at them? How many tricks have been invented and gone on to only be used by the player inventing them? It is a unique skill and one that we may never see replicated again, that in it of itself is genius.

0:17 you can see 2 player's, one can't make any conclusions of it.The Franchise wrote:Its just seems so when you consider the distance, the situation and his position on the pitch. Like the one on :17, I would be very surprised if he was trying to pass in that situation.

It usually happens when people try to pass between legs or other tight situations.
8:57 I remember the commentators discussing that in the match and it was something like "Did he mean that? No no. He's capable of doing that though"
There is absolute no reason for such "trick".

Re: Pele's unique trick
Seems to me like he was looking to link up with Dani Alves.
The only skill move I use and am good at is the nutmeg and it does not seem to me like he (Pele) is trying to nutmeg those players. Once you look for a nutmeg you are anticipating the ball to go through the players legs and you are making a run for the ball - if this was the case in Dani's videos, I do not think he would be so ready to collect the ball back.

For me it feels more like bad passing than anything else, when you can see actually the potential recipient in almost all of those plays.

Re: Pele's unique trick
To be fair all the time he attempted that there was a teammate on the way of the ball..so it is hard to say if it was intentional or a misplaced pass.
Re: Pele's unique trick
It clearly looks like intercepted passes to me...pele need very little reaction time to predict the deflected ball compared to other players so it appears like he intentionally did it.

Messi did not mean that, I know for sure.
Second, on 17, I dont see why Pele would pass there. Not with the defender in that position. Its not possible to know for sure of course.
To me, it seems like he knows the ball is coming back every time, he is expecting it, there is no surprise. So I tend to think its on purpose.
No reason? Many tricks have no reason, if you dont look at so deeply and just consider this something rare there is no reason to go overboard in the analysis.
Either accident or intentional, after that there is nothing much to infere from it.
