Inter fined €50,000 for fans' racial abuse of Balotelli in Milan derby
The Nerazzurri have been punished for their supporters' behaviour during Sunday evening's encounter at the Giuseppe Meazza
Lega Serie A has handed Inter a €50,000 fine for their fans' behaviour in Sunday's 1-1 league draw against AC Milan after the Nerazzurri faithful were found guilty of a number of violations.
An official statement reads that Inter were fined for:
1) racial chants and screams aimed at a player of the opposing team [Mario Balotelli] in the 11th minute of the first half, and in the 11th, 15th, 16th and 19th minute of the second half.
2) similar chants at players of the opposition in the 30th minute of the first half and the 44th minute of the second half.
3) exposing several insulting banners aimed at the opposition's fans and players.
4) aiming a laser light at players on several occasions.
Inter were previously already handed a €15,000 fine after the club's supporters racially abused Balotelli during the win over Chievo earlier in February.
Meanwhile, AC Milan have been handed a €10,000 fine as well as their supporters showcased insulting banners aimed at Inter players and fans.
Furthermore, Balotelli has been slapped with a €10,000 fine and an official warning for his gesture toward the Inter fans in the closing stages of the match as he attempted to silence the offenders.
----------------------------
What can be done to stop racism?
Better video cameras who keep an eye on the fans? Then those individual fans can be fined and banned for life.
A rule: If someone is caught saying/gesturing anything racist, then their house/car can be taken away from them and they could face a jail sentence. The length of it would be a minimum of 5 years. Also they can't come out of jail early etc.

spanish teams would pay it as taxes after everygame
but good to see serie a punishing this sort of behaviour (racism)

racist people are stupid. stupid people shouldn't be taken seriously.
there is no way other than punishment for clubs or maybe forcing them to play at home without fans.

Who are you the thought police? A prison sentence for saying something racist?5 years at that? You're the enemy of liberty.

Well it would make people think twice before saying/gesturing something racist.

It would make people think twice before littering as well,so according to your logic the government should imprison people for years if they are caught littering.
As I said before, anybody who proposes sentences like this for saying a few words or doing a gesture is the enemy of liberty and the enemy of free speech.

Re: Inter fined €50,000 for fans' racial abuse of Balotelli in Milan derby
These fines are terribly ineffective. 50,000 is pocket money for Inter. A better way would be to name fans who sang it and deny them access to future matches. It's possible with current technology.

The team whose fans abuse a certain player, this team should be forced to play the next game in that competition without home fans.
Thats basically like a 2 million fine.

Re: Inter fined €50,000 for fans' racial abuse of Balotelli in Milan derby
people often say it's not the "real fans" who do these things, and i think that's almost proven now. before the match our ultras made a public plea for nobody to racially abuse balotelli or anything. our ultras asked for maturity and stuff, yet it still happened. so i don't think it's real fans but more the casual idiots looking for trouble

Not for littering, just for racism.
Racism is something that shouldn't be condoned.

5 years in jail plus getting your possessions took of you because of words you spoke or a gesture you made?
This is like 1984 by George Orwell.
Do you think racism is as bad as assault ?

if that was the case you'd get rival fans pretending to be fans of a rival team just to get the other club fined 5m

then make the fans pay fines, clubs paying it does no good unless they are actually looking for the racism.

individual incidents should end with the fan ejected from the stadium, and if possible banned
large-scale incidents should end with matches played behind closed doors

But would people be racist in the first place if 5 years in jail and possessions taken away was the punishment? Along with HD 1080p 3-d whatever etc cameras setup to spot whoever's being racist.
There's no need to punish the club because of what a few people did. How is punishing the club going to affect the racist people? They might just start doing it for fun.

Bump.
I don't understand why the club has to get fined/punished, when it is just certain fans doing it.
