What I don't get is why Ancelotti was hired. They wanted an anti Mou. Ancelotti has vindicated all of Mou's decisions. Plus if they wanted somthing completely different why was Ancelotti hired? He is a CA specialist as well.

TBH Real Madrid has always been a very vertical team. This possession obsession is just a joke tbh

He didn't choose Di Maria over Ozil. Ozil asked to leave because Madrid was buying Bale and Isco was doing well at the time at CM.

Now that Isco is going through a flop period at CM and Bale is out... Carlo is caught with his pants down.

If Flo hadn't made this stupid push for Bale, there wouldn't be any issue as Ozil would have stayed.

Same problem that existed under Mourinho still exists. Possession against most sides, counter-attack against sides who want to play possession. One positive I saw was we were good defensively, although it was only Bilbao.

'Only Bilbao' have the 4th highest goals scored in La Liga and are unbeaten in the San Mames. Most chances created after Barcelona so its quite a feat to remain defensively resolute against them.

Knee-jerk is not necessary given any team would struggle versus Valverde's current Athletic at home especially considering its a draw. Although Athletic's fatigue should have been capitalized on.

Yeh but creating chances against poor La Liga sides doesn't really prove much. Comparing Bilbao's attackers to Bayern, PSG, Man City, Barca etc, they would trouble us much more.

Yes that's rather obvious but you are not blessed with what's exactly a competent defence individually nor a true DM.

Atletico's performances chances created versus Barca, Atletico in the CDR and Villarreal just a beacon of how Athletic step it up versus such defences.

A bit of solipsism there.

Well, may this end the whole "Di Maria in midfield" gig. I do love his work ethic and he brings some skill but a central midfield he is not. Barely has much football intelligence to begin with and for him to be placed in a position that needs football intelligence was destined to be made obvious against tougher opponents.

Basically, Carlo needs to start playing Illrramendi...

Easy answer. Because Özil, who would have been in there, had to be sold in order to get money for Bale, Isco and Illarramendi, so that those could provide quality on the bench.

Isco is struggling to adapt to what Carlo wants from him. It would seem he still believes he is still at Malaga where he can get away with 1 good match a month.

I have no idea why Illarramendi is being benched for Di Maria though. Someone might give a best guess but you have to call Carlo on that one Fussball.
