The official song lyrics/quotes thread
The killers
You've invaded my nights
Singing your haunting lullaby
Drowning other voices
Choking
Suffocating
Numbing
Sending me to sleep
You've awakened me many mornings
Like an unexpected alarm
Shattering my dreams
Confusing
Terrorizing
Traumatizing
I've talked to you in tears and anger
Spat on you in rage
Whispered to you in sorrow
Tied you in chains
Thrown you in jail
I've pulled you out
Asked you many questions
Knowing there would be no answers...

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
"Yea, I used to go to church
But the church didn’t quench my thirst
Mama taught me to put god first
But she never tried to block my search
I was curious, young but serious
Why is religion, so mysterious
Why is black life so hard?
They say you’re not supposed to question God
Well is it okay to question the pastor?
Was it passed down from the slave-master?
It was only the truth I was after
But I never could get a straight answer
So I couldn’t relate to the sermon
Put down the bible, then I start learning
About life, didn’t know where the path would lead
But I had to get off my knees"
"My mind is a Buddhist temple, the truth is simple
I try to be principle
Walking with a warrior spirit
It ain’t nothing like learning from first hand life experience
I’m a realist, that’s all I deal with
Respect the truth, that’s all I build with
A child of the universe
My religion is life and it’s just as valid
I strive for balance"

Come to school now all in a sort of depression

"My castle started shrinking, something's gotta give
Ended up being the smallest place that I had ever lived
One of the reasons I would do away with fame, to say the least
Don't know who these people are, their names ain't on the lease
It's a different type of monster, entertainment is a beast
Was supposed to eat together, then I became the main feast
If you preying on my kindness, taking advantage of Joe's cool
I'd have to ask, what's your definition of soul food?
I bust my ass for my whole life, and I worked hard for my profit
And envy I know cuts like a knife, so you probably work hard to stop it
If you know me like you claim then how could you disregard my logic?
You know I cut my arm short and put my heart in my pocket
A pretty good judge of character, maybe I mistaked a few
Cut some people off, but had no choice, it's what they made me do
Why would you take advantage when it's something I'd have gave to you?
And in the long run, it doesn't take from me, it takes from you." - Castles - Joe Budden

Not sure you're going to get much contribution here, Dom.
I know I personally don't care about lyrics, as long as they are somewhat decent and it's not some mainstream crap about getting high and then knocking up some kind of dragon/tyrannosaurus Rex hybrid and then complaining about how much hate there is in the world.

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
Dude, my back is killing me from carrying this thread.
Instead of just posting lyrics, I would be interested in hearing how much value people place on lyrics. I personally feel that a good beat/tune can carry or kill a song, but when the beat and lyrics come correct,
I actually cannot memorize song lyrics, but I never really forget a beat (even if I heard it ages ago) - I guess that is just the way my mind works.
P.S. 80's music, in general (probably my favorite genre when it comes to music)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Grown from when I was dusted
But took something away out of every moment I suffered
So y'all can go on and judge it
There's a reason that I'm tellin baby girl she gotta practice patience
I plan on changing my ways I'm just procrastinating
Putting it off like I'll never be in a casket layin
With both my parents going crazy as the pastor's praying
Prideful, I don't even succumb when I'm defeated
All it do is get me mad, and I'm comfortable heated
I come from a family of drunks, I'm the one that succeeded
So nowadays I talk to God when nothing is needed
I'm sorry I don't speak the language of
Rappers in the closet, but they won't hang it up
I'm only trying to build what they attempt to destroy
We had a perfect game until it was Jim Joyce'd
Check it, what was once so majestic
Is now only adored by epileptics
I record to resurrect it, by my own accord I can't accept it
But when something gives you nightmares, can you afford to recollect it
If you can just know them odds stacked
Airplanes ain't shooting stars, you can't B.O.B. that
I found out when discussing paper
Some will sell their soul and deal with the repercussions later"
"Anytime I was misinformed or misguided
I went and got advice from a dude that wouldn't apply it
And he'll give out that lesson for free
Without a grudge, but I keep the past present with me." - No Idea - Joe Budden

Shedding tears, reminiscing on my past fears
Cause shit was hectic for me last year
It appears that I've been marked for death, my heartless breath
The underlying cause of my arrest, my life is stressed
And no rest forever weary, my eyes stay teary
for all the brothers that are buried in the cemetery
Shit is scary, how black on black crime legendary
But at times unnecessary, I'm getting worried
Teardrops and closed caskets, the three strikes law is drastic
And certain death for us ghetto bastards
What can we do when we're arrested, but open fire
Life in the pen ain't for me, cause I'd rather die
But don't cry through your despair
I wonder if the Lord still cares, for us ni*gas on welfare
And who cares if we survive
The only time they notice a ni*ga is when he's clutching on a four-five
My neighborhood ain't the same
Cause all these little babies going crazy and they suffering in the game
And I swear it's like a trap
But I ain't given up on the hood, it's all good when I go back
Hoes show me love, ni*gas give me props
Forever hop cause it don't stop... on my block

RG - you alway brighten my day when you post in my threads!

"Yesterday, forget it
Tomorrow is, nada
The present is, right here, through the breath, watch it
Atheist Jesus piece, hangin' on a cross
We sit and discuss God on lawn chairs
About how we got here
What it is, what it isn't, shit
Fate versus faith, scrimmagin' with coincidence
Leave out the market and hold up on the business end
Focus on the genuine, and everything else, you can shed the skin
I was a couple moves away from being dead
In that ER overdosin', eyes bleedin' red
I fell in love, made an album, got a buzz
Lost it all, sobered up and guess what?
Now we meet again
And I'm back, finally just laughin'
Expectations are resentments waiting to happen
Studying the Dharma, Karma of a pastor and his practice
Bahá'u'lláh, Buddha, God, to the mountaintop and I'm traveling
Learnin', yes, reflectin' on what matters
People, impermanence, lack of attachments
It's space and time, a couple man-made distractions
The measure of a spirit that no human can ever capture
Church, this booth is my Vatican
I don't control life, but I can control how I react to it
Student of the breath, brick beats and balancin'
Desire versus truth until I finally find happiness
I was put here to do something before I'm lyin' in that casket
I'd be lyin' on the beat if I said I didn't know what that is
The world's a stage and we play a character, I found him
It took me 20 something years and a bunch of shitty sound checks
I'm not gonna be content, until I find gratitude
Regardless of my sales or the record deals they're handin' you
If the next generation takes our legacy and samples you
We'll have a bunch of mp3's and misled kids to pass 'em to
I use my veins to create the color I paint from
Delve into something 'til my heart becomes my paint brush
I told my mama I'm not stoppin' 'til my name's up
Thinkin' those comments on that blog is gonna save us
Searchin' for everything but Gods and validation
Get insecure and then we start blamin' the haters
Used to look to women to fill a part of me that was vacant
Truth, the only thing that I ever used in moderation
So I stare into this paper instead of sitting at a cubicle
Take all ugly shit inside and try to make it beautiful
Use the cement from rock bottom and make it musical
So the people can relate to where I've been
Where I'm going, what I've seen, what I've heard
From the guts, *bleep* the glory
Just a person on a porch putting it all into recording
Many in my past and many that came before me
I just keep walkin' my path and blessed to share my story" - Macklemore x Ryan Lewis (producer) - Vipassana

I think I know what you mean but watch what you say
'cause they'll be try to knock you down in some way
Sometimes it feels like the world is falling asleep
How do you wake someone up from inside a dream?
Your mind would wander and searched for its place in the night
Your body followed this feeling like following light
Once that your music was born it followed you 'round
And then it gave your activities meaning and let you be loud
You're sad but you smile
It not in your eyes
Your eyeballs won't change
It's the muscles around your eyes
An egg to fertilize
A pulse to stabilize
A body to deodorize
A life to scrutinize
A child to criticize
Young adults to modernize
Citizens to terrorize
Generations to desensitize
You're dreams are sweet and obsessed
And your overworked
You're overtaken by visions of being overlooked
How disappointed would D.(ead) I.(dealistic) D.(esperate) I.(nventor) P.(ioneer) P.(hilosophers)
Be to see such power in our hands all wasted on greed
Am I a prisoner to instincts?
Or do my thoughts just live
As free and detached
As boats to the dock?
Just like when music was born
And detached from your heart
Is your free time to free minds
Or for falling apart?
Night after night
You turn out the light
You don't fall asleep right away
"Are we... are we done?"
A desk to organize
A product to advertise
A market to monopolize
Movie stars you idolize
Leaders to scandalize
Enemies to neutralize
No time to apologize
Fury to tranquilize
Weapons to synchronize
Cities to vapor-i

That was beautiful, McLewis. I am going to check that song out at some point today...I hope the (I do not know what you call the "beat" when it is not hip-hop - is it still the beat) can match what the lyrics brought to the table.

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
One of my favourite lyrics on a song
Suicidal Thoughts by Biggie
When I die, *bleep* it I wanna go to hell
Cause I'm a piece of shit, it ain't hard to *bleep*' tell
It don't make sense, goin' to heaven with the goodie-goodies
Dressed in white, I like black Tims and black hoodies
God'll prolly have me on some real strict shit
No sleepin' all day, no gettin' my dick licked
Hangin' with the goodie-goodies loungin' in paradise
*bleep* that shit, I wanna tote guns and shoot dice
All my life I been considered as the worst
Lyin' to my mother, even stealin' out her purse
Crime after crime, from drugs to extortion
I know my mother wished she got a *bleep* abortion
She don't even love me like she did when I was younger
Suckin' on her chest just to stop my *bleep*' hunger
I wonder if I died, would tears come to her eyes
Forgive me for my disrespect, forgive me for my lies
My baby mother's eight months, her little sister's two
Who's to blame for both of them, (naw nigga, not you)
I swear to God I want to just slit my wrists and end this bullshit
Throw the Magnum to my head, threaten to pull shit
And squeeze, until the bed's completely red
I'm glad I'm dead, a worthless *bleep*' buddah head
The stress is building up, I can't
I can't believe suicide's on my *bleep* mind, I wanna leave
I swear to God I feel like death is *bleep* calling me
Naw you wouldn't understand
Nigga, talk to me please
You see it's kinda like the crack did to Pookie, in New Jack
Except when I cross over, there ain't no comin' back
Should I die on the train track, like Ramo in Beatstreet
People at the funeral fronting like they miss me
My baby momma kissed me but she glad I'm gone
She knew me and her sister had somethin' goin' on
I reach my peak, I can't speak
Call my nigga Chic, tell him that my will is weak
I'm sick of niggas lying, I'm sick of bitches hawkin'
Matter of fact, I'm sick of talkin' (BANG)

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”

On Mother's day. I share this brilliance by 2pac. Half of the song actually is pretty relative to me believe it or not. Amazing poetry

When I was young me and my mama had beef
Seventeen years old kicked out on the streets
Though back at the time, I never thought I'd see her face
Ain't a woman alive that could take my mama's place
Suspended from school; and scared to go home, I was a fool
with the big boys, breakin all the rules
I shed tears with my baby sister
Over the years we was poorer than the other little kids
And even though we had different daddy's, the same drama
When things went wrong we'd blame mama
I reminisce on the stress I caused, it was hell
Huggin on my mama from a jail cell
And who'd think in elementary?
Heeey! I see the penitentiary, one day
And runnin from the police, that's right
Mama catch me, put a whoopin to my backside
And even as a crack fiend, mama
You always was a black queen, mama
I finally understand
for a woman it ain't easy tryin to raise a man
You always was committed
A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how ya did it
There's no way I can pay you back
But the plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated
Lady...
Don't cha know we love ya? Sweet lady
Dear mama
Place no one above ya, sweet lady
You are appreciated
Don't cha know we love ya?
ow ain't nobody tell us it was fair
No love from my daddy cause the coward wasn't there
He passed away and I didn't cry, cause my anger
wouldn't let me feel for a stranger
They say I'm wrong and I'm heartless, but all along
I was lookin for a father he was gone
I hung around with the Thugs, and even though they sold drugs
They showed a young brother love
I moved out and started really hangin
I needed money of my own so I started slangin
I ain't guilty cause, even though I sell rocks
It feels good puttin money in your mailbox
I love payin rent when the rent's due
I hope ya got the diamond necklace that I sent to you
Cause when I was low you was there for me
And never left me alone because you cared for me
And I could see you comin home after work late
You're in the kitchen tryin to fix us a hot plate
Ya just workin with the scraps you was given
And mama made miracles every Thanksgivin
But now the road got rough, you're alone
You're tryin to raise two bad kids on your own
And there's no way I can pay you back
But my plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated
Pour out some liquor and I reminsce, cause through the drama
I can always depend on my mama
And when it seems that I'm hopeless
You say the words that can get me back in focus
When I was sick as a little kid
To keep me happy there's no limit to the things you did
And all my childhood memories
Are full of all the sweet things you did for me
And even though I act craaazy
I gotta thank the Lord that you made me
There are no words that can express how I feel
You never kept a secret, always stayed real
And I appreciate, how you raised me
And all the extra love that you gave me
I wish I could take the pain away
If you can make it through the night there's a brighter day
Everything will be alright if ya hold on
It's a struggle everyday, gotta roll on
And there's no way I can pay you back
But my plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

When I was young me and my mama had beef
Seventeen years old kicked out on the streets
Though back at the time, I never thought I'd see her face
Ain't a woman alive that could take my mama's place
Suspended from school; and scared to go home, I was a fool
with the big boys, breakin all the rules
I shed tears with my baby sister
Over the years we was poorer than the other little kids

Song description: Macklemore sets up a dreamy setting of a high school prom to a floating and beautiful piano riff and stabbing horns. The running metaphor encompasses many different struggles, possibly touching on a very personal note for Macklemore when he struggled with drug addiction and lost his direction in life, overcame the personal struggle and addiction by focusing his love of music into a tool of self-empowerment. More generally he’s discussing the vulnerability and pain that comes with love in a fleeting snapshot of a high school prom that’s cut short by the fiery end of the world. This is a story of personal struggle and opening oneself to love to overcome it even though it can more frightening than the end of the world itself.
"We came Explainin together, but you held me
The process walking right through that door, at the entry
I can't seem to remember, the lights were so bright
And the disco-ball blurred in the turn of that night
But it was perfect I was told the tux was starched and all
Grabbed the glass of punch nervousness struck, stood by that wall
Arms folded, myself I didn't know yet
Until you came over, stood by me, you coasted
You put your hand out like I was stranded
Tried to pull me on that dance floor.I stepped backwards
See I wasn't ready yet, but you were my medicine
You showed me that trust through that love that you held me with
Our backs against the wall as the DJ would spin
The soundtrack had changed as he played that mix
Our lives flashed in front of us, just a glimpse
We were together and experience this
You finally pulled me up
I didn't want to
But you filled me up, from the bottom of my heart
And as we walked through that gymnasium that I'd been watching
Feeling like my chest would explode from my heartbeat
To the middle of the floor, I almost panicked
You put your hand out and I fearfully grabbed it
The most beautiful thing that I'd seen on this planet
She laughed cause you could tell that I didn't know how to dance yet
We started moving
And I, didn't know what I was doing
You whispered
"don't you love music?
It's such a gift and I'll give it to ya
But you gotta use it"
I strayed
She brought me back in
Trying to sneak a flask outside of that gym
She said "You don't need that, look within"
She hugged me, looked into my eyes, she gave me a kiss
And she said "I can't help you, if you don't let me
You're here to live just be, don't forget me
The end of this dance you don't want to regret me
Live, Cause tonight you'll all be set free"
"Last dance" the DJ yelled
Looked into her eyes and I could see myself
Slow motion
Frozen, toast to this moment
Like there is no morning, like there is no morning
No emotions, you on my shoulder
Me lead and you follow
As we circle the floor like the globe
Through this infinite mass
Makes us seem so small
With you in my hand like the skyline holds the stars
Not letting go
But I can't hold on
Fading through my fingertips
Watching us fall
I try to catch you with my arms
I would never take it for granted when I had you in my palms
To all I ever wanted
Please play my song
And put the record to the needle
Don't ever touch that off switchYou are perfect, forget that prom dress
My God, seconds away from God yes
Somebody turned the heat on in this party
Or we’re becoming one because I’m melting into your body
One being, heartbeating, universe falling
The ground split right between us and that concrete
Separated my love
I could hear her calling
Separated, but I could hear her calling
Goodbye forever
Never see you again

“That’s when I knew I didn’t care about how things work anymore, it’s the reason why things work. It’s because of love. So there’s something a lot greater than energy, there’s something a lot greater than entropy, it’s the fact that what’s the greatest thing? Love. That’s the why we exist. In this great big universe we have, with all those stars, who cares? Well, somebody cares. Somebody cares about you a lot. As long as we care about each other, that’s where we go from here.” - Mr. Wright

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
So since I finished watching the final season of the show Weeds, I thought I'd show some love to the great theme song that this show has was recorded back in the 60s by Malvina Reynolds and covered by a plethora of well known artists from kinds of different genres. It's a pretty silly song, but I like it nonetheless.
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
Dark lyrics, but the sound of this tune is great honestly.
Oh
I'm giving up
The one I love
I'll conduct the great disaster
To scar my skin, to own this hurt
They offered their hearts
And we tore them apart
They offered their blood
And we left them so parched
I don't know if I can give you anything you want
Go on and give me a gun
Never mind what I've done
They left me no choice
Oh, they left me no choice
Go on and give me the gun
Let me blow them open
It's out of my reach
Never mind what they think about me
I don't want to say
That with mercy
We decay
Converging closer and faster
Does all I touch turn to dust?
And she confessed her love
Only I shut her up
As I took all her words
And allowed them to rust
I don't know if I'm the man you truly want to love
Go on and give me the gun
Never mind what I've done
They left me no choice
Oh, they left me no choice
Go on and give me the gun
Let me blow them open
It's out of my reach
Never mind what they think about me
Little how they learned anything about me
Meddling eyes that judge mistakes
What awful things they say
When backs are turned and no one's looking
Go on and give me the gun
Never mind what I've done
They left me no choice
Oh, they left me no choice
Go on and give me the gun
Let me blow them open
It's out of my reach
Never mind what they think about me
Oh, in this shattered symphony
Dah dah, de dah dah de dum
Oh, in this shattered symphony
Dah dah, de dah dah de dum
(Give me the gun!)
(Give me the gun!)
Go on and give me the gun

Re: The official song lyrics/quotes thread
Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Provin nature's laws wrong it learned how to walk without havin feet
Funny it seems but, by keepin its dreams
it, learned to breathe FRESH air
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else even cared
No one else even cared..
The rose that grew from concrete
You see you wouldn't ask why the rose that grew from the concrete
had damaged petals. On the contrary, we would all celebrate its
tenacity. We would all love it's will to reach the sun.
Well, we are the rose - this is the concrete - and these are
my damaged petals. Don't ask me why, thank God , ask me how!
