Pope Benedict XVI to resign.

Apparently, due to health issues. First time in almost 600 years a Pope has voluntarily abdicated. As a history buff, this is quite interesting. Always found the Papal enclave immensely fascinating.

I wonder what this means for Catholicism on a whole, given it's current problems.

Really hope they replace him with someone who actually deserves to be the pope. Not someone with a shoddy background and values which raises questions on his character and knowledge about his own faith (and others)

Generally popes aren't fired. They do have a habit of getting killed off if they get too crazy though.
