Re: Varane appreciation thread
Great player for his age. It looks like he has what it takes to be one of the best in few years.

Re: Varane appreciation thread
Btw, Deschamps had a 1 hour interview last week on Equipe 21 tv station... he explained the context of why he feels that players that go to lower clubs, even in the EPL, are hurting themselves:
- Player who play in big clubs will always have the advantage because they are used to dealing with pressure and play in more complex tactical schemes.
- He doesn't think EPL is very good tactically other than a handful of teams (lol). Doesn't think it's good for development unless you're in one of those teams.
- Doesn't like players who are used to reacting and being on their heels, which is what happens with bottom of the table teams.
- From a practical standpoint, they are just not followed as much as if they were in France. If you're going to leave France, Deschamps thinks you should go to a better situation than the one you're in. Easy to become forgotten.
Can't say that I disagree with him. He's just giving his opinion from the NT perspective. It's obviously just one perspective that a player should consider.

Very good game from Varane, indeed. He had some luck that it was Cesc who was in the end of that long ball, the slowest player in our team. Also that Carvalho voluntarily handballed that Messi run (and ref didn't whistle), otherwise he would have made a foul/penalty on messi.

Someone better tell half our team then lol.
Also found out this morning that we wanted him before Madrid and Yanited got involved

If you're French you're wanted it seems

Yeah Mole... all it means is that they better help Newcastle move up into top tier. I don't think anyone will argue that Pardew is an idiot tactically. Deschamps doesn't want to say it, but that's what he's getting at.
Remy and M'Vila killed their NT careers tbh.

Yeah

As for Remy he can come back because of his relegation clause but M'Vila looks well and truly f*cked.

Re: Varane appreciation thread
Lol at people blaming Varane for the goal, shows you how good he played that that is the only fault people can find. There is nothing Varane could have done to prevent that goal.
I am still disappointed that Iniesta didn't get MOTM though as I thought he was slightly better though, hard to begrudge Varane though,he played the best I have ever seen him.
I think the way to go is have Varane play with one of Pepe or Ramos,as I have said before Ramos and Pepe are too similar in style, they are both too aggressive to form a consistent solid CB partnership.Look how much more composed Ramos looked with Pique in the Euros.Pique was the defender who covered mainly and Ramos was the one who came out of defense to pressure.Varane has all the tools to be the one who covers,he has the height, pace and composure to do it.
I would like to see Madrid play this defense for the remainder of the season until they buy a more attacking RB:
Ramos-----Varane-----Pepe-----Marcelo.

sportsczy wrote:Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Says the person who thinks Varane is the best defender in La Liga![]()
When did i say that? I said that i think Varane can be a WC player in the future. He has the potential. The best defender in La Liga is.... Abidal. But he's injured. Pique was crap when i watched him in the Euros and in the clasicos before this one. I can't really rate him since i don't watch Barca otherwise. He was WC 2 years ago and, if he's back at that level, he is the best defender then.
I think Pepe and Ramos are better individual defenders at this point. But they are tactically inept, which Varane is not. As a pairing, i think Pepe-Varane or Ramos-Varane is far better. Heck, Carvalho is even better as a pairing partner with those guys.
I think Puyol is not what he used to be. Good defender... but no longer very good.
Other than that, La Liga doesn't have great defenses. I mean Lugano plays for Malaga ffs and he was atrocious at PSG. It's just not a CB rich league. In fact, i think La Liga CBs are the worst of the elite leagues in Europe overall.
What an embarrassing argument to use,he hasn't even played for Malaga yet.You have no shame.
And Pique poor in the Euros,ok

ozil's influence in madrid is much bigger than iniesta's, infact madrid can't attack without him, barca can still play without andres.

And that means Ozil is better then Iniesta? Or maybe it means RM have no other creative player who can creat as good as Ozil, while Barca have 2-3 of them?

Re: Varane appreciation thread
I am surprised and happy about Varane's performance. Did fantastic for a 19-year old and in his first clasico. Having said that I was quite disappointed by our overall game, we were somewhat lucky to get the draw in my opinion.
Will be interesting to see if Varane becomes a consistent starter now. Great performance from him anyway.

Re: Varane appreciation thread
Thought Diego Lopez was excellent too.Very quick coming off his line(like when Messi was played in on goal Lopez was right on top of him) and stayed on his feet as long as possible on that Pedro chance. He is much more imposing than Casillas I think and better in the air,he has 5 inches on him so there is a big difference in size.
He looked better than Casilas has looked all season.
