Re: Sturridge || The Double Edged Sword #15
There are a million and one youth prodigies that never become superstars.
So when Chelsea finished 6th and he scored a grand total of 11 league goals (13 total) that is a 'good' season? Sorry, maybe I should have been clear I meant like a 'top' season as he had with us in 13/14. I mean, I guess Ings had a good season last year also. Benteke scored 12 goals and 2 assists in 16 games after Sherwood took over last season.
I hope Sturridge comes back and sets the world on fire. A top class poacher is not a bad thing.

Re: Sturridge || The Double Edged Sword #15
^^ You do realize he was almost completely ostracized from the squad in second half of seaon , right ?
And he wasn't even playing striker at the time...he was playing RW. and scored banged in so many goals.
You're just a fair weather type of fan tbh. You just waxing lyrical about shiny new toys....and forget about players who've actually proved they can make the LFC fans happy, not those who've done it for other clubs.
If you were a Man Utd fan, you'd throw away your Rooney jersey and kissing your ADM badge when he signed last season.
I'm done...you call Sturridge JUST a POACHER !!! LOOOOL
may as well call Neymar a targetman

Re: Sturridge || The Double Edged Sword #15
Sturridge is suddenly some LFC legend after playing what, 60 games for us? lol
My favourite players are Henderson (who I supported while everyone shat on him) and Coutinho who have both played more.
Yeah, I'm all about those shiny new toys because I look for positives in new signings? Mmk. Who exactly have I forgotten about? Didn't I say I hope Sturridge gets healthy and get backs to playing for us? lol you're the most dramatic poster on this site. It's either I think Sturridge is a god or I think he's shit there's no middle ground apparently.

Re: Sturridge || The Double Edged Sword #15
I was fully against Sturridge before we signed him and I'll be the first to admit it.
But he's proven everyone wrong. He's proven a more than capable striker for Liverpool and that's all that matters. My only issue with him is that I think he is on the urge of the next "Torres". In the fact that he's had over 8 (either 8 or 13) injuries ON THE SAME LEG. That's a MASSIVE worry. I do believe we're rushing him back too. If he's supposed to come back in mid-September, why rush him back in August? We just got a new shiny toy in Benteke for 32.5m. There's literally no rush to bring him back asap. Let him fully recover before he's done... for good ffs.
On the Benteke vs Sturridge debate. I like Benteke. Don't get me wrong when I say he's still a big question mark. Let's start off with he is not a 32.5m player. Not even close. Simple Liverpool economics where we overpay. Not Benteke's fault whatever, it's the clubs, but he cost 32.5m, was the main target so he needs to step up. This is the first time pressure will ever be on him. He's still "unproven" in the sense that he's never played for a top club and honestly I don't think he has the best mentality. Where was Benteke under Lambert when they looked destined for relegation? Granted their whole team was poor, but Benteke WAS apart of that group. He's not supposed to do it all, but he was sluggish and just looked unmotivated. That's not good enough in my books, especially when we have a team of bottlers already.
Not too mention I don't even know how he's even got going to fit in. We have a clueless incompetent fool in charge so I have no doubts he'll be misused too. Only time will tell I guess.

Yeah, quality post for the most part aside from the last line from RA.
Also apparently I hate Daniel Sturridge and I didn't even know it.

All of a sudden we're so much more watchable with him back
I think I can watch Coutinho-Sturridge partnership forever.

looks good. but that means either benteke or fermino don't play. we should never have signed fermino imo.Don't call me James wrote:All of a sudden we're so much more watchable with him backI think I can watch Coutinho-Sturridge partnership forever.

Re: Sturridge || The Double Edged Sword #15
I still think(hope) that Firmino will come good.
For me it was Lallana who was the pointless signing. We had signed Makorvic and had Coutinho and Sterling. We needed to replace Suarez and injured Sturridge and we went and bought Lallana. Didn't really make sense specially for that money. We need a CF not another AM. But David Brent was in love with him so we had to get him.
Firmino on the other hand, we have just lost Sterling so singing Firmino makes sense. And he's essentially the better version of Lallana. He's been unlucky with injuries and starting when the team was playing really horribly. Plus being stuck on the wing which is NOT his position. I think under a different manager both Markovic and Firmino would come good if played in their correct positions.
Having Humongous D starting and form will help all of our other players. I want to see Firmino play alongside Deadly Dan.

milner. Henderson. Sturridge and coutinho will all play when fit. so that leaves a spot for benteke or firmino. 2 big money signings and 1 wont play. we cant have firmino. coutinho. Sturridge and benteke in the same team.Don't call me James wrote:I still think(hope) that Firmino will come good.

When we nearly won the title 2 years ago, we had Suarez/ Sturridge/ Coutinho/ Sterling starting all games ....
I think Ings is more suitable to us playing good front foot football, than Benteke, though.

coutinho..milner..Henderson.firmino.
coutinho needs to play no10 to get the best out of him. sterling was a winger. coutinho and firmino are not. like I said. one of fermino or benteke wont play.

Sturridge is unavailable for tonight's EL game and uncertain to be ready for Sunday's EPL game. At this rate, I doubt if he will make 20 games this season. He reminds me of Aurelio. Another sublime talent wreaked by injuries.

Re: Sturridge || The Double Edged Sword #15
I'm very concerned for Sturridge's longevity especially under the style of play that Klopp likes to implement. Even though the pressing under him is a bit overstated it's still crucial in that 5 - 10 seconds after losing the ball and I'm not sure his knees will hold up (I think most people are pretty sure they wont).
Fingers crossed anyway. We could use his finishing.

Re: Sturridge || The Double Edged Sword #15
I think I saw a stat a couple of days ago that said that in our last 47 (league?) games, Sturridge has completed the 90 minutes three times.
However, I've liked what Benteke has provided so far, so I'm pretty relaxed about Sturridge. If he's available, great, if he's not, Benteke will do all right.

I think his injury problems are (or will very soon be) over. Kind of like RVP early in his career being marred with injuries. No matter who you are, you couldn't possibly have so much shit luck for your whole career.
