Dani Alves
Renowned as the World's best RB 2 seasons ago, Dani Alves has recently gone through considerable decline, partly due to injuries, which has even led to emergence of Montoya in Barcelona's starting line up.
Is D. Alves decline temporary, or has the 30 yr old's prime over, and he will not reach his level of two seasons ago, giving the title of Best RB to someone else?

Re: Dani Alves
I'd still take him with my eyes close over many RB's. Still top 3 IMO

Re: Dani Alves
He is not getting any younger and physical part of his game is as important as his technical part, so i think he will probably not regain his previous form. But even at this level he is the best we have and probably one of the best in world. Also i think with Alba on the team he is exposed a bit more so he has to track back as they both venture forward, so we cannot see his flair that much.

Re: Dani Alves
There is no decline.
He has been injured.
Go watch the last 2-3 games of his and tell me there is decline.
The one and only thing missing is his usual consistency. Which I would put down to being injured at least 3-4 different times already this season.

Van der Wiel is shit, so that's not much of an accomplishment.
But yeah, he needs to remain free of (big) injuries for a while and he'll be fine from the looks of it.

I tend to agree. Maicon was better than him and, when Maicon dropped form 2 years ago, Lahm was the best then. For the past 12 months, i can't really think of a RB i would consider dominant. I had Lahm, Alves and Sagna as the top 3 RBs 12 months ago (in that order) and they've all dropped off.

As Dani said,he hasn't declined, just been injured.Tbh,I dare to say that he has improved since he has been pretty good defensively.

Ye but that's because for the majority of his time at Barca he has essentially been playing as a wing back, with the defensive minded beast Abidal compensating for Dani's attacking game on the other side, that's Dani's best position and from 08 - 11 it wasn't even debatable whether or not Alves was the best Wing Back in the world.I doubt Maicon would have been nearly as good as a Wing Back as Alves was/is.Alves is one of the best wing backs off all time up their with the likes of Cafu, only after he leaves Barca/retires people will realize how awesome he has been.
I believe Brazil should start playing with a 3 man defense to get the most out of 2 of the best wing backs(Alves and Marcelo) in the world.Hopefully Scolari will see sense and use this formation in 2014,their strengths(wing backs, good CB's,hard working tactically competent midfield, mobile skillful forwards etc) and limitations(lack of any creative tempo setting DM/CM's) perfectly suit a 3 - 5- 2 or even a 3 - 4 - 1 - 2 which Scolari used in 2002.

To be honest, Alves has been terrible defensive this season. He was responsible for several goals at the begining of the season and was much less intense than last years. Since then, he has been pretty much injured, but fortunately he's starting to play well again in his last matches. Anyway, a very bad season from him so far, thank Messi we have Alba and Adriano.

Re: Dani Alves
Decline? What? Injuries and some minor systematic changes have caused Alves' learning and adaptive curve to go awry but nowhere near decline. I don't even know why I'm giving an opinion as Dani the pompous has to steal the words out of everyone mouth
So who was better? Phillip the lost Lamb?

Re: Dani Alves
Lahm is overrated.. No doubt he is a good fullback but during the euros for example with italy scoring 2, both of the goals were partly his fault for leaving the CB's exposed..

Re: Dani Alves
Lahm and Schweinsteiger are maybe the most overrated players in the world. Saying that Lahm is the best RB/LB in the world over the likes of Alves/Marcelo is ....

Well, that's your opinion and you are writing it here and I respect that. I have my own opinion too but I don't have to write it, I will rather speak the truth and the truth is..? on the pitch Lahm is not only the best rightback in the world but the bets fullback in the world and Schweinstieger is the best box to box midfielder in the world and evenly matched with Xavi as overall best midfielder still playing, if you doubt me, then keep it to yourself.
But can you do that...?
Re: Dani Alves
Alves is definately not in decline. Injuries are just stopping him to prove to the world he still is the No. 1 RB. Every time he comes back, he plays to the similar D.Alves for seasons ago.
Schiewi and Lahm are not the best box-to-box midfielder and rightback in the world... please

Lahm has been average for over a year and exposed vs top sides and opponents. The sooner you face that fact the better.
Schweinstieger aside from one in a half year has done nothing to be rated anywhere near the best midfielder let alone best B2B midfielder. 95% of the forum will agree to my statement.
And while you'll resort to petty ad hominem and predictable minutia of response to what I write. Pot, Kettle, Black.
Lets get with the times. This ain't 2010.
